LostAlone Do Bloodstock: Steven Battelle's 17 Most Metal Moments
Heavy Metal culture’s great, yeah? But we decided to bring in a fresh set of eyes to see what they made of all the mud, metal and madness. And who better than local lad and LostAlone frontman Steven Battelle. Here are his personal 17 MOST METAL MOMENTS from Bloodstock 2014...
17. Battelle Arrives!
"How is this much metal so close to my home?! I’m a mere 25 minutes down the road and I’m immersed in the heaviness!!!"
16. Getting The Ales (Or Rather, Craft Ciders)
"So much for the not drinking for the rest of the year! 10% cider: Check! This stuff tastes like Christmas cake! Heavy!”
15. Getting In On The Metaaaaaal!
"Although hard to tell in a still shot, Obituary caused my pints to vibrate, replicating the Jurassic park cup of water/T-Rex scene. Thus proving categorically that Obituary are as heavy as a T-Rex!"
14. Jumping In The Pit!
"I’m happier on the stage looking into the pit, but something took me over at Bloodstock and I just had to dive right in. (Moments later I was in catering with a nice coffee!)"
13. How Do I Look In A Battle Jacket? A Battelle Jacket?!
"Occasionally, things can get so chaotic down the front that when the song ends you realise that through a series of gestures you’ve ended up in someone else’s clothes. All part of the great community spirit."
12. Corpse Paint?!?!
"Loved this guy, he had the ability to transform into any animal in his line of sight. A really useful skill, and one which I hope to acquire!"
11. Getting Some Gear!
"This chap is a superb human being, whose passion for making sure all festival-goers are properly kitted out is second to none."
10. Representing Metals' Newest Old Heroes
“It’s a known fact that nothing reflects the sun better than a Chas & Dave T shirt. As the clouds cleared these shirts became rampant.”
9. Having A Beer With Jesus!
"I’ve been referred to recently as “Jesus of the guitar”; something I obviously don’t take lightly. So it was nice to meet him and see if I really did stand up to his powers. Unfortunately his command of speech this day was limited due to what I expect was excessive alcohol consumption."
8. Is Antiques Roadshow Metal? Definitely.
"TV shows come none more metal than a man watching Saxon in an Antiques Roadshow cap! RESPECT! (They're pretty old, wonder if he was valuing them?)"
7. What's A Knight's Favourite Saxon Song? Crusader, Silly!
"I’ve huge respect for the work the Knights did back in the day, so it was an absolute pleasure to meet this time-travelling fellow. Apparently his time machine malfunctioned and took him to this Saxon show rather than the latter Middle Ages."
6. Viking Metal Time!
"My discovery of the day was Amon Amarth. I really loved the music and the performance. As a new fan, I was immediately subjected to this Viking ritual of acceptance, presided over by the band themselves!"
5. Heavy Metal Gallery
"In the gallery I came face to face with this incredible Paul Gregory - Lord Of The Rings painting. If I stood at just the right angle it actually felt like I was in Mordor… watching a Dio show!"
4. Heavy Metal Motorbikes... Rob Halford Not Included
"I believe these are the actual bikes Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman are about to use for a heavy-themed “Long Way” adventure. The premise is that this time they only travel through mythological places sound-tracked by metal and they can only hold the bike with a horn-shaped grasp."
3. Official Bloodstock Guitar - Protective Security Guard Just Out Of Shot
"Each guitar that comes into your arms has a special feeling to it, a story of its own. This guitar had the entire weight of a hundred thousand riffs etched into its soul."
2. More Knights!
"I met this lovely couple out for an afternoon stroll. It wasn’t until I saw this photo back that I realised they’d been using a cloaking device to disguise the fact they’re actually also KNIGHTS!"
1. And Finally... This Blue Fluffy Thing!
"My award for Coat Of The Day goes to this fine lady. It’s everything I want in a jacket - namely to look and feel like Sulley from Monster Inc."
