Bullet For My Valentine are nearing completion on their new album, which is due out September of this year. Holed up in the Sonic Ranch Studios in El Paso Texas, with 'The Poison' producer Colin Richardson, vocalist Matt Tuck chatted with Kerrang! for an update on the latest from the studio and to unveil a few exclusive details about the new release.
"We've been stuck in the middle of a pecan nut farm in the middle of nowhere, but it's been great to tear up the ground on our quad bikes for a few hours a day!" laughs Tuck. "We've recorded the instrumentals for 14 tracks - and the final collection will have no less than 11 and no more than 13 on it. "
Although the album is yet to be titled, Tuck divulged a number of song titles and themes.
"One song that'll definitely be on the album is 'Scream, Aim And Fire'," says Tuck. "It's about being on the frontline during a war. I just wanted to write something that was a little less lovey and a bit more intense, brutal and metal. Then there's 'Waking The Demon', which is probably the heaviest song on the album and is about inner anger. It kicks the ass of anything on [last album] 'The Poison'.
"Finally, there's 'Disappear' which is about bullying," adds Matt. "I had a really hard time at school, and I used to get picked on quite a lot. It's kind of a revenge story. You get picked on a lot when you are small and you can be intimidated, but then you grow up, get bigger, and you can no longer be intimidated by those dudes. They wouldn't think of trying to fucking stand up to you now."
With an overall vibe that is, Matt claims, "so fucking intense", and with a sound that's "very metal", every tune will still sound "like Bullet, and all the ingredients are there of what makes us what we are but we have just tried to be a bit more brave by approaching things more inventively".
Come June, Matt will have laid down his lyrics and vocal parts, and one month after that, he and Bullet will be hitting stages in the UK and Austria for two stadium shows with their idols Metallica.
"I am feeling pretty chuffed about that," grins the singer. "We did a stint with them last summer, and got on really well with the guys, and had some really good shows. So, for the boys to ask us back, that is an amazing gesture on their part, and we were more than happy to say yes!"
Bullet For My Valentine will play the new Wembley Stadium as support to Metallica on July 8. For tickets, please visit www.aloud.com or by calling 0870 998 8888.
