Download in danger

i purchased my tickets online from ticketmaster in march for the download festival can you tell me when they will arrive please?

they should come at least one day before the festival
thats what it says on the website anyway...
my tickets for mcr gig came pretty early when we booked on ticketmaster but my friends came the day before so yeah . x

This is stupid, dont get stupid little power pop emo bands like MCR. It says big bands, so why dont they stick to metal bands like Maiden, Megadeth, Metallica. Its supposed to be a metal/rock festival. Not for emo's.

yes they have been thrown into a stereotype which to me they sound sod all like hawthorne heights or panic at the disco, listen to the musicianmanship within that band and see them live

i am also dissapointed to not see bigger bands
but all round

maidens headlining so shh. and anyway - the constant cycle of the same damn bands will eventually get boring and no one will care. and what happens when they retire? Let other bands have a chance, if you dont like it, go watch another band - korns on at the same time as MCR if your that bothered!

Maybe MCR have pulling power, but their pulling power at a festival like this is seriously a minority...and in all honesty, there isnt not enough kerrang friendly emo bands playing over the course of the whole weekend to bring the EMO fan base that MCR are expected to pull.
And when you consider, a flavour of the month band for 13 year olds like MCR being above genre defining, and highly influential band like Megadeth, Slayer, Korn, Manson, Motley Crue...need i go on...
MCR belong at Download, i dont like them personaly, but their position at the top of the bill, or even on the main stage in general is highly ludocrus.

Sad to see this was the only part of the night that was reported on when the whole evening was about so much more. If you want the whole story then head over to the Download forums and speak to the people who actually went.

Personally I have no problem with Mcr playing download,to be honest Id rather have my kids listen to them than the new girls aloud shite or whatever. But its there position on the bill that has sparked all the conflict. When you have have slayer,dream theater and megadeth all playing the same festival in lower slots I cant stop thinking that livenation have just gone for the most commercially sucessful option at the moment as a way to shift some more tickets. But then again if slayer were headlining id be torn between them and koRn at least im in no doubt as to where I'll be on the friday night, see you all at koRn.

tehy are going to get bottled whether they like it or not people are going to set out on the mission of seeing how long they can last for on the stage. there is nothing that live nation can do about it its going to happen either way, i personally dont like em so il go and see korn but i can see what happened at prodigy last year happening again which is going to ruin it for loads of people, also all the people that cant see korn are going to go and bottle MCR as something to do, iv read somewhere that korn asked for that slot but as there are 2 places free on main stage friday i dont know why they wont play during the day on friday. anyway i dont see MCR lasting on the stage very long they are going to get bottled the ratio of metal heads to people (emo's) wanting to see MCR is going to be so great i can only see trouble coming of it.

Mindless Self Indulgence is pleased to announce that they will be playing a very special show at the Mean Fiddler in London, Monday, April 30th for just £8.00!

Tickets for this show are available - NOW HERE.

We gave kids on the MSI mailing list first swing at these tickets, so many are already gone. Be forewarned, tickets for the other two Euro headlining shows sold out very quickly -- though those shows were moved to larger venues to accommodate demand, this London show will -NOT- be. mcr, are popular. yes. they are successful, yes. Eventualy, MCR will not be looked on as a "classic" band in the same way as these "classics" are. Im sorry but they just WONT. So to say MCR are on par or better than these classics is SLIGHTLY OTT. they are big yeah, they will b remembered 4 a while 2 come as a "goth, punk emo"(...whatever genre, i dnt realy care.) that were popular. but in the end they will disapear while one of the other classics will live on. MCR will be bottled, unfortunately. I don't agree with it but they are playing at a metal festival so they will expect it. Reading wasn't closed last year after they were petty massacred, so neither will Download. Unfortuately, these sort of things come with festivals, especially when an emo band headline a metal festival.

I remember the good old days when Kerrang actually spoke out against emo. Letters were often written in pleading for fewer emo etc articles and Kerrang did promise it wasn't going emo. Oh how I lol now. And MCR WILL be bottled - I myself will not be doing this but after last year at download when an emo was caged and people bottled and punched him I can't wait to see what will happen to mcr. What you 14 year old emo kids have to understand is that emo, generic, commercial 'rock' is hated by most rock fans and just think - if mcr were bottled at reading what will it be like with thousands of real metal/punk/rockers. And dear god please kids - I urge you - try listening to some talented bands for once - and no it isn't my opinion that mcr aren't talented its fact and the most upsetting thing of all is that fact that G.W. despite now been 30+ his balls still haven't dropped and he still has 'my parents hate me' angst - TWUNT!!

1. To Kerrang:
Daphne and Celest and 50 Cent were both bottled at the Carling weekend for being pathetic hyped up bullshit that didn't belong at that festival... and these were daytime slots. Did this stop bands going? No. Bands are bottled at Download every year, so stop being such fucking commercial fanboys and get back to how Kerrang used to be, a true representation of the rock scene.

2. To the morons:
Yes, Download is a rock festival. Yes it does and rightly should cater for all corners of the genre but what should not be happening is a headlining slot being wasted on bands like this. This is the only slot of the day where the majority of the set is played with no alternative....and also happens to be one of the bands which most people attending for the weekend do not want to see.
MCR are NOT attracting people to Download. They played in 2005 when the majority of the crowd was only there to throw bottles at them...so why the fuck two years later when they've strayed even more to pop do they think playing a headline slot at a festival they've already been made unwelcome at is a good idea?
They are going to get bottled. This article is pointless because despite being one of the sponsors... the only reason the majority of the people going to Download have ever bought a copy of Kerrang is the 5 or 6 weeks where its the first place to get the announcements for Download.
Download and Kerrang do not even come close to representing the same sorts of people.
MCR, whatever you think of them, was a really bad idea for headliner. Yes they should be at the festival as a few of the people there may have a fleeting interest... but the majority of people at Download (and I repeat the majority of people AT DOWNLOAD, not the majority of people full stop) are going to be very hostile and unwelcoming towards them.

It's going to be a complete disaster.

Seriously guys, I've no real problem with MCR being at Download this year, but the headlining spots should be reserved for bands that actually *ARE* big bands, Slayer, Dream Theater etc. Bands that have been around for a wee bit longer than jolly old Gerard and his whiny crew of 30-something year olds who still cry/sing about how angry their parents and friends make them...
I'm fairly sure that in the impressive span of time that bands like Megadeth have been around they've amassed just a few more fans than MCR, who to be frank, I can't see lasting much longer after the frankly god-awful 'Black Parade', or 'going down in history' (except perhaps as one of the only bands ever to receive death threats as a result of playing a festival).

And before you all kick off, yes, I *have* listened to their earlier albums (and previously seen them live in one of the smaller tents at Reading a few years back). 'Three Cheers' being about their best attempt at music, though clearly they've abandoned that to go off on the rather obscure 'Black Parade' tangent.
Also, I myself will not be participating in the bottling, as that would involve being at least somewhere near the stage while they play...which is something I don't think I could honestly take.

Kerrang have clearly opted for the commercial 'get-rich-quick-by-following-the-trends' choice here, instead of sticking to their guns and the readers they once aimed to please. And I'll make a larger point of that here, Emo = Trend. It'll die out eventually, as people become aware that not being able to walk properly in your sister's jeans and only having one good eye due to constantly straining the other from under that daft fringe isn't actually cool anymore.

I used to buy Kerrang every week...now it qualifies barely a passing glance before I pick up Metal Hammer...
Oh, and if any of the ''MCRmy'' would like to try and 'find' me at Download in an attempt to 'murder' me...please, feel free. It'd make my day.

I used to be a fan of My Chemical Romance, but became disillusioned with them after selling out.
The first album was clever, low scale and great to listen to. They have got systematicly worse and worse.
They now care more about selling records than creating good music, which isnt the way it should be.

I have given My Chemical Romance a chance, I like some of their songs but I wouldn't say they are as good as a lot of their fans say they are. They won't go down as ledgends- emo is just a passing genre just like nu-metal was. A few years ago people probably had the same "legends" point of view about bands like Limp Bizkit and Papa Roach and sure like Limp Bizkit, My Chemical Romance are spreading this message but by no means are they popular enough or important enough to be legends. Once I see My Chemical Romance play Wembley Stadium and sell it out, 20-odd years after their incarnation, I will call them legends.

Well i have bought my tickets for download this year and hope to have a great time, but in all honesty the whole let's bottle a band shite is really putting me off. Im 30 years old like MCR aswell as a load of other great bands too, i have seen MCR on many occasions and think they always deliver a great show, although i wont watch them at Download, i just dont want to see what may or may not happen, its foolish!

MCR fans, in general, are pre-pubesant band-wagon hoppers, that have very bad English teachers.

Let me put this into perspective for you and bare in mind I like MCR, I just think you should have more respect for the bands that made MCR and co. who they are:

MCR took three weeks to sell out the 4,500 capacity Brighton Centre at the peak of their popularity

Iron Maiden take under a day to sell out three shows at Earls Court- an 18,000 capacity arena around ten ears after their peak

so, to say only three people would go to see other bands at download is ludicrous, Download is selling notoriously bad this year compared to last year where MCR weren't even featured.

I think mcr are ok, not my favourite, but even if you don't like them you can't deny that they ARE popular.

Poeple would go to download without them, but lots of people go to downlaod with them as well.

When people say they dont like mcr because they don't write very well or whatever, how many songs have they written, that tousands of people want to listen to?

Ok can I just say I love MCR, but no matter what your opinion of them you shouldn't be planning on bottling them. You're just going to ruin the show for people who want to be there. Oh, and MCR are emo. it's the genre they belong to. Genres exist for a reason. Being emo doesn't make you shit, anymore than being pop makes you shit. Musical quality is not dictated by genre.

MCR will be bottled at Download, If i were going I wouldn't but I have to say the 50 Cent bottling incident was amusing. Ditto when they put Daphine and Celeste at Reading (i think they were after someone like Slayer or Lamb of God), came on singing U.G.L.Y and got massacred and ran off after about 30 seconds. That made me laugh.

No one can deny that bands like MCR are becoming more mainstream. Some people will say this is making them a little bit worse, and I'm afraid to say I'm one of them. MCR should have stuck to their style from Three Cheers... That album is so much better than The Black Parade. I'm not saying there aren't any decent songs on that album, it's just that Three Cheers is better. The same with a band like Lostprophets. I went to see them in Hull and about half of the people who went were all posers. There were even a few girls dressed like chavs. I understand that bands have to make a living, but in changing their sound to appeal to the mainstream, they are beginning to lose fans who have been with them since the beginning. Thank god for bands like The Blackout and Bring Me The Horizon who are keeping the heavier rock alive.

Yes they do. Jon Davis' voice is terrible, Fieldy's bass ineptitude is surpassed only by Pete Wentz, and Munky isn't exactly Hendrix. They have constantly produced music that is dull and boring. In relation to the previous comments, firstly the abusive is making MCR fans seem like complete idiots who can't think of anything brighter to say than 'fuck off'.

When in fact that's not the case. Liking a band is subjective and someone shouldn't be abused if they don't agree with your taste.

But similarly, stereotyping MCR and claiming that we're all 14 year old 'emos' who know nothing about musc is wrong aswell. As i'm 18, an avid MCR fan(not a worshipper) and know more than most about music and its history etc.

Oh my god reading some of these comments makes me laugh. I love MCR an I'm not ashamed to admit that BUT that doesn't mean I wont be fighting to the barriers for Killswitch, Led Zep, Korn , Damone etc ITS ALL ROCK MUSIC. Throwing bottles makes you a twat in my book not what’s on your I-pod.

I'm starting to have a problem that people think MCR make the most meaninful songs (apart from Cancer which is a very very thoughtful song to make) of the popular heavier rock bands. I find them a bit attention seeking and overtly whiney.

System of a Down make far more meaningful music, go watch Screamers (about genocides as opposed to someones self loathing) and then listen to the Black Parade and decide what is more meaningful.

MCR and Linkin Park headlining is a joke! Download is supposed to be a hard-rock metal fest not an under 18s disco. The two bands are chavs dressed in black and most of the "fans" of them will like something else when its no longer cool. MCR are the Limp Bizkit of Emo only less talented. The headliners the last few years have been SOAD, Sabbath, Metallica, GNR, apart from Maiden the headliners this year are a joke.

Music is music. Everybody likes different things. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.
Personally, I would love to go to Download, but sadly, I can't afford to.
I don't care if MCR are headlining. I've seen them before at Wembley. They were pretty awesome and I'm sure they will be at Download, but so are a load of other bands such as VR, Slayer, etc.
I don't think there is a "best band in the world" purely because there are so many great ones and everyones opinions differ it would be impossible to do that. So to all you people saying that MCR are the best, they aren't. No band is, okay?
Another point, if you're a band and you don't want to be labelled, don't bother going into the music business because no matter what, you're going to get put into certain genres/sub-genres. There isn't much you can do about it, I'm afraid. In fact, it's just like life. Just because you listen to a certain type of music, doesn't mean that you can't like others, does it? I listen to everything from black metal like Cradle of Filth to pop like Take That [yes, I'm quite sad]. However you act and however you dress, and whatever music you listen to means you are going to be labelled. So why not get over that? I learned it a while ago and now I don't care anymore.

Whenever MyChem play a festival (like reading last year) everyone has different opinions. For Mcr fans, accept their are people that absolutely HATE them, so give up. And for those that do dislike them enough to stand at the front barriers (blocking actual fans views etc.) just to bottle 'em, give up too. There's no point. Download is a festival, festivals bring in varieties, and mainly big name bands to attract more people and to support smaller bands. At the moment, if you haven't guessed, MyChem and the like are big, rephrase, huge. Too be honest how would you react if Maiden got bottled? Probably the same way as MyChem fans, pissed.

To be honest, nearly everyone that goes to these festivals are rejects and outcast etc. Yet everyone else rejects the outcasts there. "Emo's" are rejected by the more hardcore fans out there, and sometimes even vice versa. What I'm trying to say is what the hell is the point?

Go to festival to see music, and that's that, don't bully other people who go to see different bands to you, don't bottle bands that have actually worked really hard to get there and don't ruin other people's time.

I totally agree. people shouldn't get abuse because of the bands they like, what they wear, or what other people label them as. It's ridiculous that MCR fans general line of argument is "Fuck you, MCR is better than bands you like - your bands are totally gay." It's also amusing that MCR fans hate the fact that MCR are labelled as emo.

If you want to go to a real festival then go to Wacken in Germany, it actually works out cheaper because aside from Bloodstock we are ripped off in terms of prices in Britain.

Look, for the first few months before MCR started attracting a huge crowd of 12 year old emos, I'm willing to admitt, they weren't THAT bad. They're nothing special and sound a lot like other bands out at the moment. However, I can totally understand why they'd get bottled at download. For fuck sake, they just don't belong there (EVEN THEY KNOW THAT) If you put a band like MCR at a festival which has been attracting metal and rock fans for years then what the hell do you expect? My Chem just generally prefer to write about the darker things in life, like most bands do (either that or being in love. *yawn*). I think it's much more interesting that way anyway, and hence, am an MCR fan.

And even if I wasn't a fan, I'd still argue this point - Just because YOU don't like them, there are many reasons (that you may not see) that other people DO like them.

And throwing bottles at them last year at Download was just awful. It was uncalled for, and I was totally put off by it. Bands should be able to play to their fans without fear of getting hit with bottles of urine!

To those of you who think MCR sucks, I personally think that you should keep your opinions to yourself.

Everyone has different taste, I'm young and supposedly 'underaged' to see them but I still love them, and I have been a fan for like 2 years already. Many of my friends agree with MCR haters, and they totally pick on me for liking them, but I stick up for MCR.

Maybe you should start acting more mature rather than throwing a bunch of bottles at them. VIOLENCE IS NOT THE ANSWER!!!
