New Nightwish singer was in Abba covers band

New Nightwish frontwoman Anette Olzon has revealed that she was in an Abba covers band prior to joining the goth metal titans.

"When I read about Tarja's departure, I was in an ABBA-cover band," says Olzon. "I had just heard of Nightwish a couple of months before Tarja got fired, so I didn't know the band or its history at all. I first got into them because my sister's daughter is a fan and felt that maybe I should listen to them since I am always interested in new music. I bought their collection album and liked it immediately."

The band's new single 'Eva', the first recording to feature Olzon, will be released digitally on May 30. The band's new studio album will follow in September.

Nightwish is still Nightwish because Tuomas is the one who does it! It´s not the first time in a history when a singer gets kicked from band! I actually like the new singer better and i´m even living in Finland and we dont like swedes!

Nigtwish without Tarja is more of a band now with the new singer.Tarja is more of a operastar(Diva) than a member of The Group.
Because no one can never replace her !!! ;) But the new girl is superb !!!!;)

Go see the live.
Saw Nightwish with Anette on the 1st of Jan in Helsinki. Best time I've seen them live. I'm a hardcore fan and they are jut so much better with Anette. Her presence on stage is great. The whole band looks happy and works properly as a band now. Don't judge Anette till you've seen her. She didn't miss a note all night. Ignore the rubbish Youtube footage, go see their UK tour throughout March and April.

I like Nightwish both with and without Tarja. While Tarja is capable of producing a more soothing tone, Anette can really pack a powerful punch. Anette projects better over the music whereas Tarja blended in with it. I feel Anette gives the lyrics more substance. As for the music itself, if you listen to Once and let it flow into the new CD the style is almost exactly the same. Some real heavy tracks, some slow ones, and one real epic tune. Tarja couldn't pull of Poet and Pendulum.
