Gallows become the world's loudest band!

Prepare to eat humble pie, Manowar, as Gallows are now officially the loudest band on the planet.

Guitarists Laurent Barnard and Steph Carter broke the world record for noise produced by a guitar and bass stack, when the two hooked up with Laney Amps and The Brighton Institute of Modern Music at the Laney factory near Birmingham on June 8.

"We had to wear ear-defenders and ear plugs at the same time, it was pretty intense!" Barnard tells Kerrang!. "You could feel the sound blasting through the amps. It was fucking off the hook!"

Playing through 12 heads (six Laney GH100L and six TT100H) running through 12 cabs (Laney TT412S), the lads reached an impressive 132.5 decibels, which even louder than standing next to a jet engine.

"More importantly, that's louder than [previous record holders] Manowar," adds the guitarist. "I am louder than Manowar! That's all I care about!"

Gallows' 'Orchestra Of Wolves' two-disc special edition is out now through Black Envelope.

Gallows? please, who actually listens to this. Everybody is going on about them being the new big sensation. I really dont believe this, there style is terrible!

And yeh, loudest band, they have to be to make some sort of tune. No way can they beat My Chemical Romance, its just right, perfect, they know what there on about and I look up to them. You couldent do that with the Gallows now could u?

Though i am a fan of MCR...Gallows are unlike any of these fake bands that are going around today....they may not have style or be the best band ever, but they write about day to day stuff with such a passion that this music business in the UK has needed....but go see them live and fucking hell is all im gonna say....they are amazing, the atmosphere is brilliant....and you'd probli lose a tooth...so can you take that lil emo friend Chris

In response to the first comment, I look up to Gallows. They make real music about real things. Frank's take no shit attitude to life is inspirational.

I first disocvered them last July when I saw them supporting Send More Paramedics at The Cluny in Byker (I am actually the girl that Frank referenced in a Kerrang! interveiw).

Gallows are amazing. I swore i'd check them out after seeing them in Kerrang, NME, Playmusic, Rock sound and metal hammer in the same week.

But they arent worth ALL the hype theyre getting fair play to them though they seem pretty grounded. as for frank being a chav? whats the difference between rap and metal? heres a clue. not a lot. Heavy, confrontational, theres a lot of dilution. not many differences.

whats the difference between rap and metal ? one involves instruments, the other, some guy talking down a mic about bitches and hoes thinking he has an A level in ''stringing da rhyme''. one has operatic vocals which most the vocalists practiced day in day out to achive, the other doesnt have singing. metal has a huge variety of styles from led zeppelin to slayer, from jimi hendrix to iron maiden. the variety is huge. metal expresses a range of issues importiant and just downright fun, from politics to dungeons and dragons. all rap talks about is ''escaping the ghetto'' and other midless issues which exist no where else in the world. what i love about gallows, which i didn't get at first, but now love, is how raw they sound on the album. what other bands do that? it's amazing. although mcr or whatever are good, it's all manipulated and whatnot so you hear the tunes and melodies. with gallows, when you pick the melodies out, it's an achievement, and you realise how grea tthey actually are.

If Gallows need to do such cheap stuff to beat a record and be proud of it, just let them be. Clearly they're attention whores. That's all.

Obviously, I don't know if Gallows sing an Opera, or a cover of Elvis, or if they play 10 minutes bass solos live, or even just good guitar solos, but Manowar do, and that's always a good thing.

And really, how pathetic is it when you need to break a record in such a silly way to feel proud? It's like a guy made a hole in a very thick brick wall with a punch, and another guy makes a bigger hole using explosives and laughs at the previous guy, saying he's stronger.

It might just be that there not your style, what with my chem being a depressing emo average band whereas gallows are so metal it hurts; at this years reading festival gallows lead singer got tattooed live on stage then jumped into the crowd, moshed, then climbed up one of the supports of the lock up stage tent then jumped off into the crowd. now what have my chem done that is remotely crowd pleasing.
At the end of the day music is about entertaining and pleasing your fans.

I think Motorhead did hold the record at one stage (Cornwall Coliseum in the early 80's, at 134 decibels) but Lemmy was so appalled by the resulting ear bleeding in the audience that he vowed never to play that loud again.

And sorry, but I don't believe 160 decibels. Since the decibel scale is logarithmic, you'd need about 1,000 times as much power to play at 160 decibels as you would at 130 - not to mention the catastrophic damage you'd do to people's ears if you ever tried.

Manowar conducted their record LIVE.... you little frat show ponies need a dose of reality. Metal isnt about a loud noise tossers.... go back to punk/emo. I suppose all you did was claim to be louder, not better then, or more talented. you apparently know your role... your a noise maker who wasted money... Record? only for stupidity.. :) good day.

British punk band Gallows allegedly broke Manowar's previous record for loudest band in the world, claiming to have achieved 132.5 decibels, however, this record was claimed in an isolated studio environment as opposed to live

so umm... go in a car when they put on the who's laudest tourny and you will die inside couse its over 200 decibels. then go to studio and put that same equipment in and you will have maby 80-100. then goto live and you will have to come to the stage to accualy hear anything. so basicaly that 132.5 decibels that are from an isolated studio transfered into live stadium or w/e makes it maby 100.

Other bands play, Manowar KILLS!!!

The Gallows Cheated at becoming the loudest band in the world, Manowar have reached over 130 DB in a field with 32.000 True Metal Fans!

Gallows registerd 132.5 in a room no bigger than my kitchen, sounds bounces! im a sound engineer and it dont take a fucking Brainiac to realise that inside is always louder as outside sound gets dispersed.

Put The Gallows on a Stage! with there Netto Amps and tell them to reach 132.5 with 32.000 fans and not distort once, see how they cry! .

Thing is, everyone tried to be better than Manowar, to have one over on them. but they never will

Cuz unlike most band, Manowar actually use decent equipment,

they may have broke the record of being loud, but how did they do it?
it's also important that the sound coming out will not be noise and it shall be crystal clear while being loud, as manowar did it

and by the way, as of july 2008 manowar broke the record again reaching 140 dB or a little more
