Metallica album update

Metallica have released an update on the state of their upcoming new album.

In an interview with Belgium's Studio Brussel radio station, drummer Lars Ulrich, described the new material in relation to their last studio release, 2003's 'St Anger'.

"It's a little early to kind of put in a soundbite exactly, but it doesn't sound anything like 'St Anger'," says the drummer. "It's probably a little more dynamic, a little more varied and it has lots of different nutty Metallica stuff on it. One thing I can tell you is that [the songs] are quite long."

when is it coming out? i'm getting bored.

The songs are quite long? So what's new? Just as long as they don't bang on at the same riff for 10 minutes we'll be OK.

Metallica have to prove themselves again,

they are old and tired,

they should rerecord Kill Em All again just to give themselves the kick in the arse they need

metallica was the best gig i have ever been to last nite, not many bands could pull of a performance like they did at that age.
but people like the idiot above spoilt part of the evenin by booing and throwing stuff at HIM. i don't like HIM (who does???) but im no dick and im not gunna boo a band just cos i dont like em, its pathetic.
i hope metallica's new album is nothing like st.anger like lar's says and sounds more like there old stuff.
METALLICA KICK ASS!!

Sadly Metallica will never regain that fire they had when they released Kill, Ride, Master and Justice. I'm sorry I really can't see it happening, not in the same way Maiden or Machine Head have accomplished anyway. As long as they keep playing the classics I don't think anyone is going to be THAT concerned with their future releases.

Metallica at Wembley last night was quite possibly one of the best gigs I have ever been to. If they manage to get even a tenth of the intensity of last night onto the new album then it will be something to cherish!

Also have to say that Machine head were absolutly fantastic!!! Added onto the bill last minute they managed to take the stage like they were headlining and rip the stadium apart.

Anyone who has not got The blackening get it and if they are still avaliable beg borrow or steal to get tickets to see the Black Crusade tour!!!

Metallica rule!!!

I've seen metallica a good few times, but the wembley gig was shit hot. They performed well and did a fab set list.
And I am sure this new album will sound great, thankfully it will be a little better than St.Anger, not they're most popular album, although there some great riffs on there!!!

Well done Tallica!!!!

I've seen this band for over 17yrs performing, nothing is ever bad with any of their albums whatever era, they still kick arse, they bloody rock and sound perfect everytime.
I get buzzed off my face without any sustances, only their music, Metallica i will love you forever, God Bless you guys for giving us part of yourselves in your brilliant music.

I wasnt so impressed lastnite, was 8th time ive seen em,they seem to have lost some intensity in there performance, still better then most live tho and always good to hear Orion

just to say that last night metallica rocked like ive never seen em rock before. they have gelled well with rob and really look up for it as a band again. sad to hear the booing when him was on, not my cup of tea but hey these guys are just filling a hole till the main act. give em a chance. applaud or keep it shut. act ya ages. metallic remain the gods of rock heaven. i went i saw, and they kicked my ass.

'Tallica where awesome last night - better than I've seen them before. Awesome with the whole crowd singing along...

Interesting how it was all the oldies and no St. Anger....but who gives a shit! They can still teach a lot of new, younger bands a lot when it comes to performing live!

The Head where awesome as well (as they always are live) - they should have been bumped up the bill - bollox to HIM.

As long as that sanare drum of his isnt tuned so hi this time , drove me fuckin round the bend, they wont beat machine heads new album !!

IF YOU WERE THERE ON SUNDAY YOU WOULD DISAGREE, THEY WERE LIKE THEIR OLD SELVES

i'm 16 and the wembley gig was my first ever, and it was friggin unbelievable!!! i don't particularly like mastodon but i was still atounded that they didnt get a pit (and yet HIM did!?!?!?!) i never used to rele like machine head either but they brought the place alive, they sounded totally crushing,i personally rele like HIM but theyre never good live, (did anyone else think they went off early?) but obviously metallica kicked ass, the atmousphere created when the crowd sang the memory remains was euphoric and at the end when exiting the venue, the sight of 60,000 grunges and mtal heads chanting "metallica!" was inspirational. LONG LIVE METALLICA THE GODS OF ROCK!!!!!!!

With Rick Rubin producing I think that they will make a great record, he has revived the careers of older acts than Metallica such as Johnny Cash.

If they don't come out with a great album this time I think that they never will. They should have gotten rid of Bob Cock years ago as the only good thing they did was the Black album.

I also hope that James vocals improve again with this next album because they were awful on the last album which probably is why St Anger was not so popular.

I hadn't seen Metallica before the Wembley gig but they were fucking awesome. James Hetfield had everyone in the stadium eating out of his hand, the guy can still seriously kick ass as a frontman. Only bad part is seeing another band and at another venue is going to be a big step down from Metallica at a packed Wembley.

I was lucky enough to go to Rock Werchter in Belgium - the line-up there was awesome - you can keep Glasto and all those tree-huggers any day! I had a friends wedding in Sheffield over the weekedn so could not see 'Tallica last night but it sounds like they played as awesome a show as they played in Belgium the week before. Rob is just about the most awesome bass player ever and I can only assume they have the old fire in their bellies now they know they can totally do whatever they want and the bassist can support them with pounding bassline - sorry but Newsted just wasn't that good (he played with a pick!!) I've been watching 'Tallica since '88 and they are probably better than I have ever seen them right now - I can't wait for the new album!!

Do you want heavy?? 'Tallica will give us heavy baby!!

I have to disagree with most of the above comments. Haven't seen metallica live for a while, but saw them about a dozen or so times in 80's/90's so i have to ask the following. What the fuck was up with the sound at thr stadium it WAS SHIT!. Since when did metallica start playing along to click tracks...too old to play your own intros? What was with the play two tracks have a rest shit that seemed to be going on, the gig stopped and started and didn't really get going till the encore when they just played the songs with no disappearing off stage every two minutes. I know sustance abuse is no laughing matter but if this is the new improved sober Metallica i think it may be time to falll of the wagon. Very disappointed for the younger fans who commented that this was thier first gig etc. You don't know just how fantastic they used to be.

Posted by Mark | July 10, 2007 3:10 PM | Reply to this

Don't entirely disagree with you Mark - weird hearing the recorded intros and the sound in the cheap seats was shite. That said, they still fuckin destroyed the place. Pissed or sober, Hetfield's presence is awe inspiring and the set itself was something else. You said its a shame it was some folks first gig - actually I think they were lucky to take in a Metallica gig filled with old classics rather than one where they've got new stuff to sell.

you know, i was gonna go wembley and skip my sports day but the tickets DIDNT COME.
has anyone else had this problem or is it only me.
can someone give me advice on getting the money (or even better, new tickets)

Thw embley gig was insane. The pyro they used at the start of ONE was amazing and f****** hotp. How do i know it was so damn hot? I WAS ON THE FRONT ROW! Just to the right of the centre of the stage. I felt sorry for the people sat at the back for the warm up bands as they didn't use the screens, and when they were used the ones either side of the stage wern't really big enough.

This was getting close to my 20th time of seeing Metallica as well. I've also see Anthrax at least 10 times and Slayer at least 2 to 3 times. I'd say one thing about at least Anthrax and Metallica and that is that they are both slowing down and taking way more breaks - I don't remember any at all the first time I saw them but all these guys are now in their 40s (see Jaymz's grey beard! :) ) and even at 32 I am starting to slow down and feel the pace compared to my 20s. The set was awesome - thank god most of the last 3 albums were ignored (though I quite like St Anger personally!) as the first 3 albums are definitely the best with Justice and Black somewhere behind them. 'Tallica were tighter than I remember ever seeing them play, looked like they enjoyed themselves more than they have for a while and the sound in terms of the dynamics was better than I have ever heard before (I was right down the front at Werchter and the sound was awesome and yes the pyros were very hot! :) ) I look forward to them touring with the new album and hopefully playing better and smaller venues - although I will definitely not be going to Earls Court as the sound there is shite so I may have to go up north to see them!

I liked HIM...

What can i say bout Wembleys gig......FUCKING WOW!!!!
Tallica kicked asre big time & i probally wont see another gig as good as that @ Wembley in my life time. They went miles past my expectations & the atmosphere in there was out of this world, especially with Sad But True, Unforgiven, Nothing Else Matters & Enter Sandman.

Seen Machine Head a couple times before & they fucking were awesome as always, what a line up in 1 nite. Cant wait till Black Crusade in Nov.

Posted by Rodders | July 10, 2007 7:52 PM | Reply to this

Lets hope it isn't long as in Machine Head style. That album sucked many asses

Posted by Alex | July 10, 2007 10:37 PM | Reply to this

I Take on board your comment about the first timers were lucky in the set list. Some other comments from other people about how they will be slowing down now in middle age annoy me somewhat, haveing seen the Ramones when they were older than either Metallica or Anthrax are now would seem to suggest that age need not be an excuse for poor performance. It appears that myself and freinds who saw the gig and were disappointed are in the minority, so we will wait until the next tour and see if we just had a bad night. Lets hope Metallica remember that there are places outside London on the next tour a trip to Wales would be nice, as i remember Metallica always went down well at Newport/Cardiff and its not as if we don't have the venues nowadays.
