NIN Vs Pumpkins Vs Fall Out Boy

Nine Inch Nails mainman Trent Reznor has slammed The Smashing Pumpkins.

Just hours before Nine Inch Nails were due to take to the stage at the Leeds Festival this past Friday (August 24) Reznor passed comment on the band who were co-headlining the bill with NIN:

"I was never a big Smashing Pumpkins fan back when they were the Pumpkins, not to shit on Billy or anything but I don't hear anything that would make me want to care. I think trying to resurrect the name Smashing Pumpkins; It's all a bit corporate for me."

Reznor also went on to slam the rest of that day's Carling Weekender line-up saying:

"I heard the line-up for another day and that sounded a lot better than the line-up on the day we are playing, so I doubt you will see me on the side of the stage for Fall Out Boy."

oh wots this another peice of news by kerrang about bands hating each otha. first we had manson vs MCR now we have NIN vs FOB and the smashing pumpkins. And each time kerrang has exaggerated the truth to try and cause wars between fan groups then they complain wen people bottle bands at download sounds to me like kerrang are FUCKEN HYPOCRITES seriously we shud all boycot kerrang and stop buying until they clean up there act a bit they,ve been goin down hill fast recently

Seems that if anyone expresses an opinion within earshot of a Kerrang journo just lately then they are automatically saying something controversial to start a fight. The whole of Reading was utter shite apart from 1 and a bit glorious hours when NIN owned the festival and showed everyone else how it should be done. I just wish them and the Pumpkins had been at Download so I wouldn't have had to sit through the rest of the utter shite on the Sunday to watch them. Come on Trent, Donnington next year is the only place you need to be!

I hope whoever writes these articles reads the comments and takes note because I agree with everything people have been saying.

you could do some actual reports on actual events rather than blow gossip out of proportion. I know you can't say too much or people wont buy the mag but seriously some of these articles are ridiculous.

and Reznor is right about the pumpkins. they were awful. I'm not a fan of NIN but they were amazing live.

OR actually read and comment other news where kerrang have reported on actual music events...
Shows how much everyone pays attention when MCR, FOB, "Gossip News" all have like 140 comments and real news has about 8 ....

If it isn't about someone in MCR or FOB with a girlfriend, no one is interested. This place is becoming like Heat magazine.

I thought it was hilarious when NIN didn't get cheered on the entrance to the K awards, because no one knew who they were. Probably too busy taking Myspace shots of themselves.

Anyway, I'm a big Nails fan, and the journo is simply looking for a headline. It was posted on nme.com too.

I do agree with Trent though. Billy wants money and his solo gig and Zwan flopped. It's proving that he can only make music with the SP name infront of him.

Well to be honest he has a point. Add to that the NIN set at reading was so unspeakably awesome that it smashed the balls of all those lower bands, even the pumpkins.

NIN walked out the absolute victor at reading, and I don't even really like their music, the performance was just jaw dropping.

the only people doing the slamming here is everyone thats slamming kerrang. The headline of this article is exactly that, its a headline, it attracts you to read it and obviously its done his job.
Trent Reznor merely said what he thought of the 2 bands, and it was bad, so yes he was slamming. but its not over anything stupid or pathetic like the manson vs mcr thing. It was a genuine reason as to why he doesnt like the smashing pumpkins. and i can agree with him i dont see anything special about them. The only song i like by them is tonight tonight and i dont even like their own version of it.

So leave Kerrang alone, they're just doing their job. And stop bitching so much and slamming them so much over pathetic things like this. People are allowed their say, and things like this are allowed to be printed theres nothing wrong with printing it. All everyones really mad about is the headline but like i said, its done its job.

Actually Billy Corgan disliked Zwan and it's musical direction - a whole batch of recorded material was done for a second album, but due to Corgans distaste for Zwan he's shelved it.

Trent didn't even technically slam Fall Out Boy, he used them as an example, because all the bands were complete wank (except for Billy Talent, Lostprophets, NIN, and Smashing Pumpkins) but you couldnt even imagine Trent sitting down listening to Hellogoodbye, so this article is just useless.

I used to care about Smashing Pumpkins but after seeing them live two weeks ago I have to say that Reznor is right.

But i must admit as much as a love the pumpkins there reformation has hardly been tht spectacular i mean if they invited back melissa auf der maur who played bass after darcy left then it would of been ok but she wasnt even invited as far as i know and james iha is never gona come back after billy slagged him off a few years back
still id rather have a crappier smashing pumpkins than no smashing pumpkins and tarantula is a great song

in all honesty, Trent does sound slightly up himself.
Maybe bitter that the Pumpkins headlined and NIN didn't?
Whatever- it still doesn't change the fact that both bands were amazing at Reading.
I like FOB and everything, but they were better at Decaydance... and Wentz is way more likeable when he doesn't talk.

Fair enough FOB aren't going to be his thing, but I hate people like him who are "artists" and can only listen to really deep meaningful music because enjoying anything in the mainstream is just ridiculous. For fucks sake I get NIN are a great band but some mainstream music is pretty good and he should stop slamming all of it. As for his comment about Pumpkins he can fuck off. Sorry Trent but I would rather go out with friends and dance about to stuff like Umbrella and Wham than sit in a dim lit bedroom questioning whether what I am listening to is artistic and alternative enough to be acceptable. I saw NIN and they where awesome. Fallout Boy and most of the other bands where catchy etc just a bit watered down and not as proffesional. Its hard to meet the NIN standard! He knows exactly what he's doing that Trent. Lets not argue! Think all the bands where good at Leeds, just some better than others.

Saw the interactive coverage of Reading and Leeds...NIN were amazing!!!! Smashing Pumpkins, not so amazing. Trent was simply expressing his opinion on Billy Corgan reforming the Pumpkins. That doesn't make him a twat or up himself....

Trent Reznor needs to shut his mouth! He seems fond of slagging other bands off, yeah I dislike Fall Out Boy and Smashing Pumpkins, nor do I like Nine Inch Nails. Nine Inch Nails are one of the most overrated rock bands ever. I used to be a fan of Smashing Pumpkins but I went off them when they started releasing piles of shit albums like Zeitgeist. But the only OK song NIN is March Of The Pig's and even that's not that good, NIN are shit period.

I just went and read all of these comments ... I agree with what Trent Said mainly ... But its different stokes for different folks , I like alot of rap music that im sure Trent would hate , But that doesnt make me want to stop listening to it .. I love NIN .... NIN dont sound like anybody else , Trent isnt the most gifted singer in the world , but he has his own tone , and style , Unlike 95 percent of so called artist ....
