Scott Ian loves Fall Out Boy but hates MCR

Anthrax guiatist and Kerrang! Awards 2007 presenter, Scott Ian, confessed in this morning's 'Metro' newspaper that he's a big Fall Out Boy fan.

Speaking to Andrew Williams, Ian said: "Fall Out Boy are going [to the K! Awards] which is cool because I'm friends with them. People might not expect me to like them but I've seen them twice and they put on a great show. If things go south at least I'll have someone on my side."

As for who Ian fancies for a K! Award, his money is clearly on Machine Head for the best album gong: "Their new album is the best metal record for seven years," he says.

As for who actually wins on the night, stay tuned to K! dot com tomorrow.

That's a little odd, considering FOB is WAY more pop than MCR. The only real pop-ish song MCR has, I think, is "Teenagers", and even then it's a stretch. But hey, everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

Why do you guys care if Scott Ian doesn't like My Chem? Just because My Chem are a great band doesn't mean that everybody is gonna like them. Everyone has different tastes in music. I listen to alot of bands that don't like My Chemical Romance and anything "emo" but I don't let their opinions stop me from listening to them. Just respect the fact that he's being honest and move on. Don't let someone's opinions aggravate you.

MCR really aren't poppy, it's just their latest stuff has recieved more airplay...
I really hate it when people stop liking a band just because they have gained popularity and a new gen of fans. Surely a real fan wants their band to move up in the world??

I read each and every comment on this thing and I find it highly amusing. Come on I am an My Chemical Romance and Fall Out Boy fan and I can truly say some of you guys are taking this too seriously. If Scott Ian thinks Mcr is more "poppy" than Fall Out Boy leave it be. That's his opinion. If you think differently voice your opinion but their is no need to attack people just because they have a different opinion from you. To be honest I think both bands are "poppy" and it doesn't matter which one is more "poppy" just listen to the music if you like it. If you don't well go find another band you like better.

Sorry but in my own personal opinion... I cannot stand MCR. I liked one or two of their old stuff... but his voice just goes through me! I respect people like them yeah... but they are pretty much over-rated, as are my fav band - Lostprophets. I'm really annoyed right now. Why the hell is everyone just slagging each other off? I absolutely adore MCR and in my eyes, they're one of the best things that have happened to me, but when you think about it, there's no such thing as "the greatest band in the world" because that is an opinion and everyone has different opinions.

No matter what you talk about, there's always gonna be people who disagree with you and I think that we should all understand and accept that.

I, personally, don't see why Scott thinks that MCR are too poppy if he likes FOB. That is just my opinion, though.

I'm not being overly defensive with MCR and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but really, why are we fighting? It's one guy's opinion. Let him have it.

okay why is everyone so shocked??
i saw fob last night and they were amazing!! they sound so much better live.
but i love mcr too.
im going to see them in november, so i will make my mind up about who is best live than. (though i will always luv fob more)
people have different opinions on bands so fans shouldnt be upset.
chill.
its not the end of the world.
people arnt always going to like your fave bands.

my chem are poppy or in my case alot more poopy than the average band.

Seriously - I don't even like Anthrax but the man knows what he's on about! And Fall Out Boy - better than MCR (and I used to like MCR before they became a third rate Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band imitation). I just saw FOB in Ediburgh and they completely trounced the three times I saw MCR without rambling on about a load of crap instead of getting on with the gig.

And people who post here - it's not a crime to NOT use text speak. Stop being lazy!

I'm only 44 and love most things metal or rock. Saw MCR on the Black Parade tour and thought they were excellent and HEAVY!! Scott Ian is entitled to his own opinion, as is everyone. Anthrax are certainly respected enough for a band member to give his views. However, the thing that bugs me more is Kerrang's sensationalism of his comments. Not once in the interview printed here does he say he HATES MCR, as quoted in the headline.
Incidentally, how many more have to call him Ian Scott!!!!

A friend just told me about this. I don't hate MCR. I never said I hate MCR. When I was asked about "new" bands and bands that people would be surprised that I liked for the 60 Second interview in the Metro I mentioned that I saw Fall Out Boy and thought they put on a good show. I said that I don't like much new pop music and that I prefer older bands that I grew up with like Cheap Trick and Squeeze. The pop music I was referring to that I don't like was stuff like Mandy Moore, Jessica Simpson, Rihanna, and 99% of all hip hop these days. MCR? No problem. If you watch the awards you'll even see that after they give their speech I say that they seem cool. Anyway, I hope that sheds some light. Cheers, Scott

ok, i hate my chemical duchebag and falloutboy, but scott ian has done enough albums and been in the music industry long enough to know better than all those of you whos judgement is clouded by what colour gerrard ways hair is and if you want pete wentz's ricecrispy dick in your mouth.

as far as im concerned, scott ian is a legend equal to hetfield, mustaine and king, and falloutboy and my chemical duchebag will hopeful have died in planecrashes within a few years.

i forgot to mention that in a FoB Vs my chemical duchebag thing, falloutboy started out with songs designed to be stupidly easy to play and therefore easy (and boring) to listen to whereas my chemical duchebag have admittedly crafted their own sound (which was bollocks anyway)... then relased the black parade as just as much a publicity stunt as anything

anyway, its all shite, listen to public enemy or machinehead and grow up

GET OVER IT.

You can have your music and he can have his. If I had a tantrum every time someone told me they didnt like what I listen to I would look like a small child who'd never grown up.

If I had a tantrum every time I suspected someone might have said something bad that was possibly related to my music then I would have been taken away in a straitjacket by now.

Did he even say anything?Being honest?Or are you all just trying (and failing) to make a point.

exactly! i'm a big (big big BIG) fan of MCR, and my dad (aged 59) likes them too. good job, since i listen to them 24/7. but is HE emo? don't think so.
