The end of Slayer?

Slayer frontman Tom Araya has made some rather worrying (and upsetting) comments in an interview with Worcester magazine in the USA.

The singer implies that Slayer's days on the stage - and the studio - might soon be at an end.

"Well, there have been remarks made about seeing an old man headbang. And I have to agree," says Araya. "It's actually pretty strenuous. That's why I don't see it going any further than a certain point in time. We have one more record to do, which is our deal with [producer Rick] Rubin, and we'll have to sit down and discuss the future. But I can't really see myself doing this at a later age."

Well it's kinda inevitable really, no one lives for ever and same goes for bands. I'm not a huge Slayer fan but before anyone who comments after me has a go at me, I don't hate them, I'm just more into Metallica and Megadeth more than I am Slayer. Plus Slayer were more in their hayday in the 80s/90s when they wrote their classic stuff and no band can make the same album twice, although Christ Illusion does have a few good tunes :]

Tom Araya does make alot of sense regarding age. It may not be the headbanging so much, just the touring and pressure of the business. It's awesome to see Slayer never conform to any other type of music, they have been the same since the 80's/90's.
I will say that if their next album is their last hopefully they'll tour once more and make it a kickass show for slayer fans like me.....

Well, Slayer have done their job really well. I know they arn't the best, and no one lives forever, but they really are the Thrash metal Gods (Metallica sold us out years ago) and frankly, it saddens me to see them go and leave the metal scene to idiots like Trivium.

This cant happen SLAYER are my favorite band in the world and i have loads of their albums ( nearly all of them) and i could bear them coming to an end before i see them live!!!! * sighs in dismay* but Araya had got a point they are getting on a bit and as someone said a little earlier no man or band can live forever but lets just hope they can keep going until i can see them live!!!

The end of one hell of a METAL era. I have been into Slayer fro more years than I can possibly remeber. Dont despair as there are some metal bands left in the see of Emo shit thats out there. Lamb of God for one who will still be flying the flag for thrash metal.

Slayer you have held the thrash flag for a long time and as far as I am concerned you are a tough act to follow. Look at the Rolling Stones the only way they will quit is if one of em dies and lets face it they have all sold thier souls years ago to play forever.

Metal will live on but will have one hell of a chunk ripped from it

I REALLY hope you're being sarcastic there? 'MCR wul never leave there fans like dat' [sic] is complete bullshit, Every band eventually will call it a day, and for some fans it will be many years too soon.

Rock isn't everywhere today, and while MCR have bought a few fans over to emo and they've found their own way to rock from there, it's still not as much as slayer have done for metal and music in general. They've stayed true to themselves and their fans for far longer than any other band I can think of, and despite staying mainly unheard of, how many people do you know who'd recognise the phrase "5 out of 5 kids who kill love slayer"?

As to the whole 'winning in a fight" i'm not sure how it's relavent musicaly, except it'd just give MCR more to whinge about...

To be honest, I doubt if I would miss them, were they to split. In my opinion, Slayer have been treading water since Divine Intervention.

And quite frankly, metal does not need any fans that MCR may or may not bring. It has survived through glam, grunge, hip-hop rock (I refuse to credit nu- with the word metal) and this nonsense that Kerrang seems to be determined to push onto people. And it will continue.

Having said that, I bet Kerry King would squeal like a girl in the fight, Hanneman would simply use a Schmeisser and shoot the bastards. :D

Haha sorry to break it to you kid but MCR are gonna have to split up one day aswell, musicians are not immortal. I take it the most you know about Slayer is their name?
Slayer have done a shitload more for music than you'd think, that includes being a big influence on MCR (not musically but influenced its members).
So yeah they must be shit (/sarcasm).
As much as it sucks that Slayer will call it a day eventually I know it's not that big of a deal because they've achieved so much and will leave us with some fucking good music. They just better not split before I get to see them live, then I would be a sad panda.

the end of slayer would be shite, but their new album wasnt great, however, they have done more than nearly any other metal band ever, and so if they wana stop the touring circuit then thats up to them

Bought tickets to see the real steel tour once(20010. Apparently only about 299 other people bought tickets to see Pantera and Slayer because of some Des Moines city council snafu. I knew at that point that I was part of a dying breed and decided I was going to live it as long as I can. Well I guess that I need to hold on to my MP3's as long as I can. Probably won't be many more made that I can stomach.
