Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong recently had a chat with US magazine Rolling Stone.
In the interview, the guitarist reveals that the three-piece have already written about 45 songs towards the follow-up to 2004's American Idiot, but have no idea when the next creation will be ready.
"It's totally chaos," says Armstrong. "I want to dig into who I am and what I'm feeling at this moment - which is middle-aged. We've been doing this for almost 20 years now. You want to make sure that you are being honest with yourself. I also have to ask myself, 'What's real out there?' Right now, it seems stagnant."
What do you reckon to this revelation?
What direction will this new, more "middle-aged" material take?
