Metallica album update!

Metallica are close to completing their forthcoming album in LA with producer Rick Rubin. All that is left are the overdubs and James Hetfield's vocals.

The band has compared Rubin's methods to longtime Metallica producer Bob Rock.

Kirk Hammett said: "I have difficulty wading through all the ideas because I'm biased - I think everything we do has a lot of merit to it. In that regard Rick Rubin is great because he will just say, 'Such and such a part is not good, so come up with something else.' He just leaves the problem up to us and we just solve it between ourselves without too much interference from his side."

Hetfield has high hopes for the album: "We don't want pretty good, we want excellent and Rick is getting us to try and achieve that. Rick's very good at getting the essence of an artist out and brining that back to the top again.'"

The new Metallica album is due in the spring.

They are my favorite band and I'm really looking forward to the new album! It should be really good hopefull but I have high Hopes!

But the person who called them Emo what they hell they are Thrash Metal! I've got nothing against emos just calling Metallica a bunch of Emos is out of place. They are one of he best Thrash Metal bands out there in my opinion!

i love that every single (well almost, well just the few that i happen to look at) comments pages on kerrangs website just turns into a massive label argument.

OMG!!!! Metallica are nowhere near EMO! they create the best music around so shut ur traps!!! many bands are based on Metallica but none could ever be better. Kirk and James are some of the best guitar players around not shit ones like the ones in MCR who cant play to save themselves and get away with it cos apparently they are good lookin!!!! The other day i heard people compare Metallica & MCR there is no comparison MCR are shit and people better face it soon enough!!!

If any one of you little punks knew what it took to write, record, produce and mix an album, maybe you would have a little more respect for all types of music.

These guys here, Metallica, people make fun and point fingers at them because they are not afraid to take on something new. Maybe all of you need to open your eyes a little and focus on different types of music before you go laying any judgement on any band out there...especialy Metallica.

First of all let me say that i used to be a HUGE metallica fan. I first them in 1985 when i was 8 years old, and was hooked from that very moment. That being said, I dont have high hopes for the new album. Dont get me wrong, i really do hope its good, i just dont have much faith in it turning out that way. To me metallica hasn't released anything decent in over 15 years(the black album wasnt great, but it was "decent")
From Load onward they have really pumped out some shitty music.

Let me clarify, i didnt stop liking metallica because they cut their hair (if musicians hair length determines if you like them as a band or not, you are a moron) it wasnt because i thought they "sold out" (i wont even get started on the "so an so sold out" mob mentality spewed out by primitive music fans who dont like the direction their fav band has gone) It was because i truly dont like the music they have produced. Load and reload i dont like at all....although they have some artistic merit, just not what i wanted to hear. St Anger has no redeemable features at all.....
