Judas Priest for Download?

At the Download fan forum, which took place this evening at London's The Clachan pub, Download festival director Andy Copping hinted that British heavy metal legends Judas Priest may be playing this year's event.

Other bands rumoured to appear included Within Temptation, Korn, Machine Head and Fall Out Boy.

The Fan Forum also clarified promoter Live Nation's stance on green issues, improving transport links to the festival, improving security and improving facilities for disabled festival goers.

The 2008 Download Festival will take place at Castle Donington June 13 to 15. An official announcement - unveiling this year's headliners - is expected to follow in early February.

Ace! If Korn are there, I'll be happy. The rumours for headliners are Kiss, Slipknot and Lostprophets.

The rumours for headliners are Kiss, Slipknot and Lostprophets.

I am sorry, but none of those bands can headline above Judas Priest. The only band in the country who could play above Priest on a bill would be Maiden.

Posted by The Metallion | January 26, 2008 1:32 PM | Reply to this

Fall Out Boy... how very metal. I don't think Korn will be there I heard they were touring. Slipknot though?

Posted by Chazza | January 26, 2008 1:52 PM | Reply to this

lostprophets won't headline mainstage sunday, would do second stage. they aren't big enough to close festival on main stage. on fallout boy i'm sure they won't be there as with korn who would have been there 3 years in a row.
i reckon it will be kerrang band slipknot ac/dc with priest old skool band and lostprophets on second stage.

Lostprophets won't play second stage, they're too big a band, they can sell out arenas etc, so there's no way they'll play second stage.

If they're not headlining, then they'll be below the headliners on whatever day -Though I think with they're new album etc there's a good chance they may headline the Friday, which is becoming known as the more "Alternative" day for headliners.

ok first up, DOWNLOAD IS NOT A METAL FESTIVAL!!! and also, although i really like fall out boy i hope they dont go becasue they would just get bottled to hell and itd be a waste of a spot on the roster. also KISS, slipknot, lostprophets, judas priest, korn, machine head, Jesus H Christ this year should be good

Posted by thecazmaster | January 26, 2008 9:38 PM | Reply to this

I hope Fall Out Boy do go, just so people DO bottle them.

I quite like FOB, and I found all the haters throwing bottles when MCR were on last year quite amusing, especially as they seemed to think it would make a difference. My Chem we well aware of the fact that they were going to get bottled, but they played anyway, and didn't give a fuck.

I don't think FOB will be any different.

Posted by Rowan | January 26, 2008 10:28 PM | Reply to this

...i cant believe people are saying it isnt, just look at the bands there since it started...
FOB will get bottled at download it inevitable as they are not really a download band but more of a leeds/reading band... which by the way i did seen them at leeds last year and i have nothing against them they just arent for download...
As for lostprophets maybe a friday headline slot if they are lucky but probs more likely to be second on the bill behind the headliners.
Anyways for headliners this year i wouldn't mind seeing korn (yes it would be their third year but they were an insanely packed tent last year) sliknot and ac/dc... i can always hope lol

Posted by Bob | January 27, 2008 1:11 AM | Reply to this

Lol, indeed.

If MCR got bottled, what the fuck do you think is going to happen to Fall Out Boy? =|

I want Muse there.

It's the cycle of how people say they don't like a band, after a couple of beers your not going to write them a letter in red ink are you?

When the feck are Manowar going to play the UK?
If they were to play Download, the majority of the crowd would wet their pants to hear some real metal for a change.

fallout boy for download? fuck right off! people saw the outcome to mcr being there last year, bottles off piss going everywhere! i swear to god i FoB are there too they will be aniahlated!! cheery bye! emo shit.

Posted by charli | January 27, 2008 11:05 PM | Reply to this

Havn't any of you realised yet. That Download is not only a metal festival anymore! It used to be only a metal festival. I know that. So lets just get that clear, before some arrogant cunt says "it's always been a metal festival, idiot". Anyway...rock music isn't all about fucking metal. I like metal but jeeze! All this bullshit arguing about fall out boy playing is a pile of wank. So fucking what if they play!

Posted by mitch | January 27, 2008 11:06 PM | Reply to this

where the fuck do all these rumours come from anyway? Metallica and rage against the machine are playin Rock am ring in germany the week before which hopefully means they could play at download, loads of bands that played rock am ring last year played at download. there you go, spread that around and we might have a descent festival on our hands.

Posted by daco | January 27, 2008 11:40 PM | Reply to this

as long as LPS play (i reckon they'd be on before Slipknot) i'm happy.

They should finally book Muse.

and a cliche metal band to shut up anybody over 20 who decides that they hate everything apart from old school.

Those are 2 of the rumoured Headliners for Reading/Leeds.

Posted by Bodz | January 28, 2008 3:34 PM | Reply to this

If anyone had actually been paying attention to the actual rumours on the forums and on e-festivals, a more reliable line-up from the sounds of things includes (potentially) Kiss, Evile, Black Stone Cherry, Avenged Sevenfold, Judas Priest, but to name a few. The names mentioned here crop up year upon year but the only truly reliable one there is Judas Priest - the others are either unlikely, or indeed, undesirable. Not everyone wants to see Fall Out Boy at Download, they are not right for Download, just like MCR weren't last year - how else can you explain around 25,000 people seeing Korn and several thousand watching Suicidal Tendencies instead?

Posted by bloodandthunder | January 28, 2008 5:54 PM | Reply to this

Fuck yes, Evile playing Download would be fucking brilliant. I'm hoping this years line up will be better than last years. Although in all fairness, among the piece of shit bands that were playing, there was some fucking great bands there.

"The only band in the country who could play above Priest on a bill would be Maiden."

Hahahahahahahaha. I love Priest, one of my very favourite bands, but there are dozens of hard rock acts who could justifiably play aboe them. Metallica, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Aerosmith, ACDC and yes KISS to name a few.

Posted by MetalDave | January 28, 2008 8:54 PM | Reply to this

omg i couldnt agree more, they are all totally capable of being above priest.
just imagine download with all 8

priest could well go seeing metallica r strong rumours for reading.

those who said lostprophets could headline 2nd stage, LOL get real! you can't be serious surely. they're too huge and brlliant for 2nd stage. don't be surprised if they a headline spot. MCR, Feeder and Linkin Park all have. as for FOB, don't really mind em but they will get slaughtered if they go.

Right i have took time to read this and about a million other claims and rumors. The fact is, nothing is certain till you are standing in the middle of the field, and on stage the lead singer is shouting for your devil horns and calling you a mother fucker. The point is... Debate all you want, If you are a real fan of music, whether it be rock or metal or whatever... you will just accept what is to be officially annouced soon.

My Own Ideal Turnout would be...

Friday: Muse

Saturday: Slipknot or Rammstien

Sunday: Metallica supported by Judas Priest

Remember... Nothing is set in stone till the day... See you there in June!!

*long silence*...

JUDAS. PRIEST. PLAYING. DOWNLOAD?

That would be better than.. well than most things

But im not building my hopes up until it is officially confirmed

Posted by Tenacious B | January 29, 2008 5:31 PM | Reply to this

This is the line up

Friday

KISS
JUDAS PRIEST

Saturday

THE OFFSPRING

SUNDAY

LOSTPROPHETS
FALL OUT BOY

Truely shocking. Reading fest anyone??

Posted by David | January 29, 2008 6:27 PM | Reply to this

Nevermind bottles, try hand-axes

And i think headliners are more likely to be:

Friday:
Priest

Saturday:
Machine Head/Muse/AC/DC.

Sunday:
Metallica or Foo Fighters.

Now that'll be some festival especially if other rumours such as Rammstein come to settle.

Posted by daco | January 30, 2008 11:53 PM | Reply to this

Old skool metalhead purests who refuse to listen to, or except anything but bands like Maiden, Judas Priest and AC/DC are just pathetic. Maybe once you lose your virginity, and move out your parents house, you might broaden your horizons. I kno you wish it was 1985, but unless you can get you hands on a flux capasitor and a Delorian, its never going to be!
Music changes, either like it, or lump it! But stop moaning like a bunch or bitches and throwing bottles like rattle out a pram. If you like Judas, go listen to em and have a great fucking time, if you hate FOB, dont go listen to them! Simple...or you could act like the little bitch stereotype that you are?

Hope Dillinger are playing, go see them and u'll learn how far metal has come, where it can go, and the true meaning of heavy! They'll blow ur mullet off!

Posted by cloacal kiss | January 31, 2008 10:08 AM | Reply to this

Hi I'm an old skool metalhead as you put it but I also like some of the newer bands that are about at the moment and I know that music changes not a problem, what I've got a problem with is the media eg the so called rock and metal channel Kerrang! shoving nothing but new "skool" rock down our necks.

Example, the other day they had on top 20 mosh pit mahem, and there were only 4 or 5 bands in there that I would have considered to be in this playlist the others were about as heavy as a wet fart.

And on other playlists they seam to play the same bands about 5 or 6 times, eg on the punk playlist every other video was Green Day like I said not a stab at them as I dont mind them but just every now and then not every other song , there are more punk bands about than them old skool and new skool.

And then the real "heavy" stuff is not on till 01:30 ish in the morning. But during the rest of the day they seam to play the same 15 or 20 songs. If I wanted that then I would watch MTV.

Oh and by the way I dont have a mullet, and if it wasnt for the old skool stuff then the new skool bands would not be about.

Posted by Lee | January 31, 2008 4:00 PM | Reply to this

Well said, ur absolutely correct, the old school owe new bands a huge debt. I just don't understand the mob mentality and hatred that fuels some metalsheads attitudes and behaviour in reference to bands that they dont agree with, simple based on image or genre. It doesnt exist in any other genre of fan to this extent. Take for example the whole emo hatred thing, its pathetic. You dont like it dont listen. They complain coz these bands are on the airwaves not their bands, but as soon as a band they like make it big, they have sold out and they hate them. A disliking is fine, but bottling bands, and verbal and physical abusing other genres? Its pathetic and childish.

Yeah, unfortunatly right about the medias control over our ears, it's pathetic, and Kerrang is especially guilty of this. Rock music is being watered down more and being laden with gimmicks to sell units and appeal to a certain money spending demographic, but at the end of the day it is a business. And anyone who listens to decent music doesnt really care much about what the media want us to like. I just wish kerrang would support underground music more, instead of suckling the teat of mass media. The heavist (and best probs)band at the Kerrang tour are Fightstar, that about sums it up really.

Posted by cloacal kiss | January 31, 2008 4:55 PM | Reply to this

what a load of s********* what happend to monsters of rock very disapointed with the way things are these so come band will never sucome to bands like maiden, preist , think they should have a little tent for baby boppers for these so come new metal mini goths ect and leave the main stage to full metal bands who deserve to be ther not these bands wgo have to shorten their names like mcr what the f**** metal is letting it self down i know people like diff sorts but come on the new stuff is bit lame

Fall Out Boy?
I god damn well hope not.
I will actually make myself physically sick!
But the Priest thing is a good start.
OH and if Lostprophets headline, I'll take a shit in the middle of the pitting area before they go onstage!

Posted by Amberly | February 1, 2008 10:10 AM | Reply to this

...well if they will take their chances at a festival where there is a history of bottling anything less than metal bands, if they're gonna whing and moan about it, then they're taking on a risk that they obviously can't handle!

I have no sympathy at all.

Posted by Amberly | February 1, 2008 10:13 AM | Reply to this

I'll probably do something inappropriate if I see Machine Head in one of those headline spots xD

MCR Last Year, I Mean, I Love MCR, And Insult Me All You Want, It Won't Change Anything, But When MCR Were Bottled Last Year, It's Quite Amusing To Think That It'll Make A Difference... MCR Knew They Were Gonna Be Bottled But Still Went Out And Played, And They Won The Crowd Over After 2 Songs And The Bottling Stopped... I Hate FOB To Be Honest, I Used To Like Them, But Their New Stuff Is F******g S**t... I Don't Think FOB Belong At Download... MCR Are Much More Metal Than FOB, If You Don't Belive Me, Play FOB Then Play MCR, There's A Difference!!!

I Hope It's
FRIDAY: Rammstien [Though I Heard They've Split Up]

SATURDAY: System Of A Down [No, They Haven't Split Up]

SUNDAY: ACDC Or Slipknot...

That's My Guess...

Posted by Will | February 4, 2008 12:59 AM | Reply to this

I agree.

My Chem were bottled down, but they kept on playing. Yes,it is mostly full of metal bands...And those bands are awaiting metal fans. I have nothing againt music like that...I love it. And, for some reason, people who LOVE My Chemical Romance, aren't allowed to like metal music.

They pretty much have lyrics similar. But certain bands choose not to scream. Nothing wrong with screamo...Please, don't get me wrong. It's just some people approach soem bands a different way.

Anywho, if Fall Out Boy play there. It's gonna get ugly. Seriously, My Chem won over the crowd, but Fall Out Boy? I, honestly, like ther old music better. And if there are performing their new songs at the festival...It really won't work out too well.

I have lost some respect for Fall Out Boy. Lately, they have been up themselves. But, if they get bottled down, and they keep on playing...They'll get some points back. I really don't think it's a good idea to bottle down bands. Especially bands that have done NOTHING to you.

But, one comment one chnage the Rock World.

Posted by ... | February 4, 2008 6:58 AM | Reply to this

are good. they write decent music, and just because they have changed, people throw shit in their direction. people change.... their still good. they get so much shit when they have done nothing to you, :l

i dont think they care when people write ''their fucking crap now''
''emo shits''
etc

though pete does get too much attention :llll. patrick, andy and joe should get more. :)

bottle pete if you have too

i think i just contradicted myself??
