Rock and metal snubbed at The Brits

Despite securing rock's first couple, Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne, to present this year's event, and despite a wealth of quality rock albums being released over the last twelve months, this year's Brit Awards has pretty much snubbed the rock and metal community.

Across the 11 categories of the annual awards ceremony, only three rock bands have received nominations; Muse for Best Live Act and Foo Fighters and White Stripes in the Best International Group category. The Foo Fighters' latest album, Echoes Silence Patience And Grace, also received a nomination for Best International Album. Boo! Hiss!

The Brit Awards take place on February 20 at London's Earls Court.

I honestly don't care. The Brits are so pathetic, metal and rock deserve a better awards show (like the mighty Kerrang! awards) rather than taking part in such a half-arsed event.

the brits are crap, and doesnt deserve the name brits, but id love to see some true spirit and some band just crash the award ceremony, maybe tear the place off finished with burning the awards where a high pitched man who gets his nuts knawed by a squirrel in his trousers, name is on them.

The Brits are about main stream pop music, not rock and metal, so it is not surprising. (Even though it is a little disappointing, considering that amount of good bands that have given us great albums, singles and live shows over the last 12 months!!)
Only Muse and Foo Fighters get the slightest recognition - that's middle-aged, fat-pocket and fat-waistband f@#king corporate idiots for you, that are in it for the money, not the music or the fans!!

but the only brits are awarded to total sell outs such as Jay-Z, Kenye West, and some fagot ass boy bands with instruments(Fall Out Boy, Son of Dork, etc.)! I'm sure that Slayer or Metalica have never evan been nominated!

I remember the Brits in 1992 (yeah I know, I'm old!!). So very funny, KLF with Extreme Noise Terror scaring the sh*t out of all the guys in suits with a grindcore version of "3am Eternal". Legendary!!

At the end of the day, Rock and Metal was never going to be nominated. Not to the extent that some people want. That is because it isn't all 'mainstream'. There is nothing wrong with Mainstream and there is nothing wrong with the acts who were nominated for Brits.

I thought that Metal was about the music and the fans, not superficial accolades anyway. Meh.

Kerrang can't talk either. Only the most mainstream of rock/metal acts get nominations for the Kerrang awards, so aren't they just as bad as the Brits, just in a different subculture?

Is anyone actually shocked about this, and if so, why? It was niave to think otherwise. yeah occasionally you et the likes of Muse or Green Day getting nominated, and fair enough they deserve it, but as for the likes of Gallows or whoever being nominated? Let's bear in mind the target audience of the Brits. Vacuous muppets who value style over substance.

I stopped getting kerrang like 2 year ago for that very reason. But when it comes down to it kerrang/nme/Q etc all want to make money and if they put loads of new talented bands people havent heard of in, people wont buy their magazine.

I, like many, could not give 2 fookin hoots if the Brits has metal in it as I won't be watching such crap anyway. However it is also a bit rich coming from Kerrang who have clearly opted for the corporate coin on the TV with an inoffensive indie rock and pop schedule. Kerrang TV is far too soft, Scuzz murders it and that channel is often debatable. Shows like Headbangers Ball is what K TV should be like all the time, at least admit that K is no longer all about the metal instead of trying to ride on multiple genres, metal deserves better!
