Could Nickelback be this week's number one single?

According to today's official UK Top 100 midweek chart report, Canadian rockers Nickelback are firmly on course for a number one single.

The band's surprise hit, Rockstar, which has been in the charts for a staggering 18 weeks, is way ahead of Basshunter and Duffy who currently occupy the number two and three slots respectively.

Other rock bands making an impact on chart land include Tennessee emo four piece Paramore and Canadian pop punkrs Simple Plan.

Paramore's track, Misery Business, looks set to chart at number 11 (ironically Paramore are only 1,000 copies behind frontwoman Hayley Williams' childhood hero Britney Spears who currently occupies the number 10 slot). Simple Plan look set to be a new entry at number 27 with When I'm Gone.

Moving down the charts, Biffy Clyro slip from 27 to 42 with Who's Got A Match?, Elliot Minor fall from 38 to 52 with Still Figuring Out and 30 Seconds To Mars are down from 37 to 53 with From Yesterday.

Old hits making a surprise return to the charts this week include Guns N' Roses Sweet Child O' Mine at number 92 and Nickelback's original 2001 number 4 smash How You Remind Me is at number 72.

- er, no. not every band gets THAT far. nickelback have achieved this much success from a huge FANBASE that transcends stupid little tribes within the hard rock community.

i was actually glad Kerrang gave ATTR 4 K's because it really is a great album. maybe not if ur still a naive, sheltered little sh!t stuck in his own little subculture, but trust me - there are A LOT worse bands out there.

i just wanna tell all the haters to stop taking the commercial performances of bands so bloody seriously.

nickelback aint the best hard rock band out there but they aint as bad as all these school kids on here make them out to be.

i love 30 seconds to mars.. i just adore them.. the way that they are differnet then other bands.. they don't copy other bands to be noticed.. the way the other is how they get noticed.. and plus their songs are amazing. 30stm changed my life.. and the way i look at life. they are unique in every single way. and the fact to make a group 'echelon' to get people together and make new friends is what 30stm is all about! their new video. a beutiful lie is just amazing.and 30stm think about the environment we are living now. and that is the difference between 30stm and all the other rock bands in the world!! xx

Personally i'd say Nickelback are one of me all time fave bands! y? u ask? cos ever since ive been into rock music they have constantly been up in me top 7 bands.

Also, they were my first ever taste of live music, and i can honestly say that they have a awesome live show!!!! so id no doubt recommend em live...

These songs are good, i agree.
but Paramore, 30 Seconds To Mars, Nickelback, Simple Plan..(plus the other bands mentionted that i cant be bothered to name ^^) have better songs than the ones that are reeling in the money.

All these little scene kids who are
'i love Paramore'
because they can resight Misery Buisness in their sleep.

People like that are the reason for Nickelback etc. getting number one's.

besides that, im happy for them,
they are getting a larger audience.

Gosh, it's kind of annoying how Rockstar is up in the charts and eveyone is like 'Their new song is so awesome!'
The first time I heard someone saying that, I was like 'Wth? That song is so OLD!' and they just ignored me.. lol. But yeah, that was my favourite song back when I was like... 10, lol, I'm sick of it now.

Misery Business, gosh, it's a good song, but I've heard enough of it by now. Stupid little scene kids saying, my favourite band is Paramore, I'm HER (Yes, I've actually heard someone referring to Paramore as HER. (PARAMORE IS A BAND, PEOPLE!)) biggest fan! My favourite songs are Misery Business and crushcrushcrush..'
Oh my, what a coincidence that they're the songs that are all over MTV! =S

If I remember rightly, the tagline on the front was: "NICKLEBACK IN HALF-DECENT ALBUM SHOCK!"

I agree with the last comment. Have they re-realsed the album? Becasue i keep seeing adverts saying new album out now. Im like arrrg!! The album is amazing though and im so pleased for them to make it into the charts =D

The song "ROCKSTAR" had to muchair time.
It's like Paramore on kerrang singin' "Misery Buisness" then next it's Nickelback "Rockstar" then another song like 30 Seconds To Mars "From Yesterday" then next surprise , surprise it's Nickelback again with fuckin' "ROCKSTAR"

Oh my gosh I know what you mean, in my opinion, crushcrushcrush is just a really crappy pop song that doesn't show Paramore's potential but the problem is, people hear it and think that Paramore are a crapp pop band when they can be really awesome (All We Know Is Falling)
