Countdown to Download 2008!

The countdown to Download 2008 is officially underway.

This year's Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival will take place the weekend of June 13 to June 15. And tonight at midnight (GMT), the festival's official media partners - Kerrang! dot com and the BBC Radio 1's Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter - will announce the three bands that will be headlining this year's Download festival along with two other big hitters on the bill.

We're not allowed under pain of death to tell you exactly who is playing just yet, so tell us who you'd like to see at Download '08 and why by posting a comment below...

I'd love to see Avenged Sevenfold headline Download.
They've worked hard to get to where they are now, and they definitely deserve to headline something as amazing as Download.
Plus, they're bloody brilliant live!

Donnington = Spirtual home of metal, meaning ANY band that perfoms there must be METAL! Give a headling slot to fucking SLAYER you bitches, they've been at nearly every download i can remember, and still no headling slot, yet you gave out headling slots to bands like Garbage and MCR?!

I think everyone knows that AC/DC are performing. There has be very strong rumours about it.
but as for the other two main slots. MACHINE HEAD obviously should be a headliner, as their performance at the Black Crusade was awesome :).
but lets all hope My Chemical Romance aren't there again. No-one likes them and they are just to over rated.
so the other slot should go to a good band, something different that maybe no-one will expect.

But we'll all find out soon seeing as they are releasing the names of the headliners tonight.

I totally agree! Slayer deserve a headlining slot more than pretty much any other metal band out there! Machine Head and Slipknot are awesome choices as well. That would be an amazing Download.

i agree with this Seb guy, Download headliners really need to be a BIG band, such as Slayer, even though my boat isn't floated by them. As noticed by last years atrocity, getting youth aimed pop bands like My Chemical Romance had a significant affect on the whole festival. Did anyone notice how few went to watch them at the main stage in comparison to an overfilled tent that Korn were playing in? It speaks volumes.

My Headliners would be out of the following bands:

Avenged Sevenfold
Machine Head
Slipknot
In Flames
Foo Fighters
Korn
Rage Against The Machine (only because i heard rumors of their reformation)
Anthrax

Just some suggestions anyway. Better than last years selections but u cant really beat Linkin Park or Iron Maiden but they were last year so no point in readmitting them to the bill.

My Chemical Romance were the only thing I went to Download for last year, so unless they play this year (which I doubt, considering their supposed to be having a break) then I won't be going.

I think they should stick with Friday as the day they have an Alternative headliner though, I think maybe Lostprophets or Fall Out Boy are possible, and hey, maybe Download we'll get Green Day if were lucky - I might just go if they're playing.

I believe that efestivals has it right and kiss + offspring will be two of the headliners.

The third i can't see it bring lostprophets, especially not to close.

I think LN will pull out a suprise, perhaps aerosmith who they tried to book last year, or ozzy because apparntly sharon was trying to get him on the european festival circuit.

to be honest i'm going to stick with Reading this year (already have a ticket anyways) hopefully rumours are true that METALLICA and RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE will headline! who cares who else plays, if those two play it would have justified my ticket price 5 times over! you can't beat a lineup like that!

It's obvious now that Download festival has sold out and has taken to bum-licking silly little pop rock bands. (Just like Kerrang eh?)
Oh well, i'll still be going, probably just for the bands earlier on in the day at the main stage and i'll move on to the second stage later.
There'll still be plenty of choice....it's just a shame the main attractions will be appalling.

saturday is the like the mainstream metal
sunday is the classic metal

i can beleive kiss would play but on the sunday

i can beleive Slipknot would play on the saturday

and i can beleive Lostprophets on the Friday

Fall out boy, yeah the've got some catchy tunes but are they mad lol

offspring arn't releasing anything that i know of and there a leeds and reading band

rage would play leeds and reading on the friday

Why are so many Kerrang! readers so bitchy about bands they don't like?! Jesus, just because you don't like a band, you have to face the fact that millions of other people do like them, so there is really no reason what so ever to go mouthing off about them. I've heard strongly that likely headliners will be: Slipknot, Machine Head and Judas Priest.

Bands likely to be appearing anyway: 36 Crazyfists, Korn, Arch Enemy, Mastodon, Rage Against The Machine, Bullet For My Valentine, Still Remains, 3 Inches Of Blood, Trivium, Funeral For A Friend, Lostprophets, In Flames and whoever else supposedly has new materila coming out this year.

Heard AC/DC or Metallica could alternatively be one of the headliners?

linkin park should DEFINATELY headline, coz they are gods.
and Rise Against, coz they are gods too!!

First of all, why do people get so shitty if people don't like bands they do.

Secondly, the lineup is Kiss, Priest, Offspring, Incubus, LostProphets and Fall Out Boy, WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, its fact. deal with it.

And people suggesting RATM to play and not headline... thats a joke surely? There playing Reading.

Killers, Metallica and RATM are headlining reading, so you can forget them for Download.

I'd love to see KoRn, SlipKnoT, Turisas, Finntroll, Guns N' Roses, Megadeth, Rage Against The Machine, Metallica, Velvet Revolver, ZICO CHAIN!!!! at Download '08. No emo shit please, Download is a hard rock/metal festival. There's Leeds/Reading fest for all the emo crap. If Download has no crap soft rock bands, there'll be less conflict between the fans so it'll be less dangerous!

id love for enter shikari to play, they lived in my town and we supported them before they became big and now that their big weve not seen them since (pps: lead guitar splilt his drink on dan at the veif) lol
anyway it would b great if madina lake would make an appearance too.. ive seen them live a couple of times and although they werent metal i get such a buzz from there live performance.

I must admit, last years line-up was spectacular, with so-called "emo" bands like MCR playing, which I happen to like. Now, this years is shaping up to be more metal than anything else, come on, make it more like last year. Bands like Paramore, Fall Out Boy and 30STM should appear although by looks of it I doubt we will see many bands similar to them this year. Which is a real shame. Download is for rock/punk/metal not just metal, and im pretty sure emo/pop-rock is under them somehwere .

The mistake here is closing donnington with the prophits. Hardly in line with maiden, sabbath, metallica right??? dont u remember 05??? indie day on friday remember?? garbage even played!

and I am so annoyed. Ive been to every download so far and this year rage, a7x, slipknot, serj are all playing leeds, none of which are announced for download!!! a7x and slipknot have highlighted download for me previously, I cant beleive Ill miss the tour cos they went to a festival that sells out in 2 hours because of a chav brigade who go to see some shit as well. Leeds has cool ppl but ur never too far from a dick head also. Download was supposed to be rock heaven. Its donnington for f* sake. I am still going in tradition and for a love of donnington, its a shame theres only a handful of bands I wanna see, when all my favourite are touring and coming to the UK but not where fans are able to get to. Seriously, would a true maggot or a7x fan go to leeds if they werent playing?! more likely theyd opt for download and now, if they have done, they will be let down and dissapointed. There will be plenty of tickets sold for leeds that arent to people who want to see em. Keep metallica, ive seen them far too fucking often, why can him play every download and a7x only once?!?!?! cc live, u better have something up your sleeve, I predict a riot....especially after securities attitude last year!
