Simple Plan reveal emotional story behind one song from their new self-titled album.
Speaking exclusively to Kerrang!, vocalist Pierre Bouvier explains that the inspiration for Save You, came from his brother Jay's lengthy battle with lymphoma cancer.
"It has been a very difficult time for me and my family," tells Bouvier. "He went through loads of chemotherapy over the years, and had a bone marrow transplant. You have to have so much chemo that it almost kills you, and right before it does, they stop. Then, you have to start your life over.
"You can't take life for granted," he adds. "It makes you appreciate everyday things and be grateful for what you have."
Writing the song gave Bouvier an outlet for the frustration he felt over the situation.
"The song was a way to express how powerless I felt," he explains. "In life, you feel like you can fix things to make them better if you want to, but in this situation you can't do anything. It makes you feel sick that you might lose someone you love, and there is nothing you can do about it."
Jay has since made a full recovery and, his brother says, is "officially cancer free".
Simple Plan's self-titled album is out now through Atlantic.
