Design K!'s Iron Maiden CD artwork!

As a tribute to Iron Maiden Kerrang! has persuaded some of our favourite bands to record unique covers of their greatest anthems, for an exciting free CD entitled Maiden Heaven.

The tracklisting and details for this world exclusive release will be revealed next month and we want YOU to get involved too by designing the album's artwork!

Feel free to interpret the cover's concept in any way you wish by using any medium at your disposal. A K! panel will select the winner and contact them in due course. Your entry can be submitted as a high-resolution JPG (300dpi - 150mm x 150mm) and should be e-mailed to feedback@kerrang.com or alternatively, you can send in your original artwork to Kerrang! Magazine, PO Box 2930, London, W1A 6DZ, but please note it cannot be returned.

What's in it for you? In addition to having your artwork adorn the cover of this incredible album, the winning entrant will also win a year's subscription to Kerrang!.

The deadline for this competition is May 26.

"some of our favourite bands to record unique covers of their greatest anthems,"

This is going to be fucking horrific, isn't it? Kerrang approved bands butchering Maiden classics.

Just stick the Dance of Death cover on it.

Awww, bless. Not even close.

You'll see. ;)

Posted by KERRANG! | May 14, 2008 2:11 PM | Reply to this

if it's anything like the Metallica Master of Puppets one then it'll be awesome.

Coheed & Cambria will probably defenately do 'The Trooper' as they cover it regularly live

i could also see bands these bands doing a cover

every time i die
dragonforce
avenged sevenfold
maybe even SLIPKNOT

You're a real ray of sunshine. Bless you for caring. Bruce is flying four of us to Cannes this weekend...and he wrote a column for about six consecutive weeks for us this year. You're right, he really hates us. Didn't you ever fight with your brothers and sisters or best friends growing up? Here's a hug. xxx
PS. Robb Flynn says 'Hi'.

Posted by KERRANG! | May 14, 2008 2:48 PM | Reply to this

Are you kidding Dave? That Master Of Puppets one was horrific. I've never been more turned off by 8 minutes of Trivium.

Posted by Vanessa | May 14, 2008 3:34 PM | Reply to this

yeah but it was FREE!!

but in all fairness i agree....it wasn't awesome, it was good at best!

I'd like to add Dillinger Escape Plan and Fall Of Troy to my list aswel :P

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 3:38 PM | Reply to this

yeah funnily enough mate, i don't think the same people who were writing and producing the magazine are the same who make it today.

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 3:42 PM | Reply to this

I was thinking of entering this competition, then I saw that one of the prizes was having a years subscription to Kerrang. Like fuck I'm having a steaming heap of bullshit delivered to my door every week.

Posted by Loz | May 14, 2008 5:06 PM | Reply to this

Yeah, and that Bullet For My Valentine cover of Creeping Death was horrible.

Posted by Loz | May 14, 2008 5:09 PM | Reply to this

now your just getting silly

'I meant I remember the years you couldn't give a shit about Maiden.'

Years you said. Thats defenately a while ago. And i've been reading Kerrang for over 4 years now and i always remeber Maiden getting a lot of coverage. I don't think your arguments are very credible.

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 5:24 PM | Reply to this

why are you on here then?

oh, you must have nothing better to do if all you have to say is negativity. You must be a great person to be around. I'd hate to be your friend (if you have any)

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 5:26 PM | Reply to this

During the Blaze Bayley years, Maiden couldn't buy Kerrang coverage. Once ruce rejoined, it was a different story, and Maiden were a little miffed at the sudden worship of the band when they' been ignored for so long. Ozzy went through a similar phase.

To be honest, Kerrang is fickle, in some necessarily. In order to sell, it has to cover what's popular, which wasn't Maiden for a long time. It's also why Emo is covered so much now, and why Nu Metal got so much coverage.

Bring back Billy and the Continuum kids I say!

Mein Fuhrer should cover Nummer Of Zse Beast!

in 2006 'A Matter of Life and Death' got a 5K Review

nuff said?

oh and it's 5 years i've been reading K, my mistake :)

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 8:10 PM | Reply to this

The only good covers K! have issued was Biffy Clyro - Buddy Holly and KSE - Holy Diver..... and maybe A7X- Walk, but that was just copying the old one, but not quite as good, they didnt have the new take the other two did.

but if they get good bands (A7X, CaC, Dragonforce etc...) to play them, it should be awesome.

I've recently got back into maiden after about a year of listening to new stuff.
They are amazing tho.

Posted by Jon | May 14, 2008 9:18 PM | Reply to this

yeah i can't remeber much, my brain is pretty small, especially the bit which deals with memory, i was dropped as a baby because i was so ugly i horrified people.

yeah you probably have been (i was born in 1988 btw) are you old enough to be my mum?

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 9:19 PM | Reply to this

this guy knows where it is at!

The Biffy cover was immense!!!

Posted by Dave | May 14, 2008 9:21 PM | Reply to this

Bruce has an awesome voice and the band are brilliant at playing their instuments .... where on Earth are you going to find someone who can manage to cover the songs well??????
Robb Flynn just cannot cut it.
P.S. Please please tell me you don't have FOB doing a cover on this album (shudders) - I'll get down on my knees and beg if that helps :0)
P.P.S. Bruce is still hot

Posted by Liz | May 14, 2008 11:40 PM | Reply to this

Fickle? That's putting it midlly. I remember the abuse Dio and Danzig got for years. I stopped buying it because anytime the bands I liked where mentioned, it was because they were taking the piss.

Posted by The Metallion | May 15, 2008 9:51 AM | Reply to this

Jesus, i fucking hope Bullet For My Valentine will be involved in this bad boy!

Posted by Dave Rae | May 15, 2008 10:05 AM | Reply to this

Dear God, no.

Posted by The Metallion | May 15, 2008 10:21 AM | Reply to this

i nearly pissed myself reading some of them arguments

u guys r pretty funny hahaha

btw who cares if kerrang covers emo bands, it makes them money cos there is ALOT emo cunts out there

Posted by ciara | May 15, 2008 1:12 PM | Reply to this

Spoken like a true Slipcock fan. :p

Posted by Gorgar | May 15, 2008 3:14 PM | Reply to this

I'm on here because I like Iron Maiden. Does that make any sense to you?

Great insult, by the way. Could your miniscule, incompatible brain not think of anything better?

Posted by Loz | May 15, 2008 5:21 PM | Reply to this

Ja. Or Powerzlave. I would much like to cover a song by ze metal band Iron Maiden.

Posted by Loz | May 15, 2008 5:26 PM | Reply to this

I don't.
I like them but hearing the Sanitarium cover was bad enough ta.

Posted by Vanessa | May 16, 2008 6:10 PM | Reply to this

Do YOU like any bands?

Or do You just go around slamming every band on this site?

Do you have nothing better to do

Posted by Eleanor | May 16, 2008 7:06 PM | Reply to this

They Should make it public
And use and Iron Maiden on anyone who butchers Iron Maiden songs.
But before they die they should take them out and use a rack on them

Posted by Eleanor | May 16, 2008 11:15 PM | Reply to this

shut it maiden MADE metal!

if it wasnt for thm we wudnt have Avenged Sevenfold or Bullet or Metallica today!

Posted by Green Day Gurl | May 17, 2008 4:40 PM | Reply to this

Well the fact is, its Black Sabbath. But Iron Maiden are best.

Posted by chiran | May 17, 2008 6:40 PM | Reply to this

i don't see what the problem is with the K! covers. bullets covers were awesome A7X-walk was awesome and Trivium-Master of Puppets was awesome, i don't see why everyone on this site has to be so negative all the time

Posted by Luke | May 17, 2008 11:50 PM | Reply to this

I'm going to be optimistic and say this should turn out great :)

Just because it says some of K!'s favourite bands doesn't necisarilly mean they will be emo/screamo/scene bands. K! still cares about metal lol

It would be great if the tracklisting is like the new Somewhere Back In Time Best Of Collection.

I'd love it if the following bands did covers:

Trivium
Dragonforce
Coheed And Cambria
Disturbed
Arch Enemy
Opeth
Bullet For My Valentine
Children Of Bodom
Machine Head
Chimaira

and anyone else influenced by them (:

Posted by Joelio | May 18, 2008 10:50 AM | Reply to this

as much as i do like arch enemy, opeth, disturbed and machine head, all 4 of those bands would do a terrible maiden cover.

Jesus, you sound awfully starstruck Mr KERRANG. Whats with the name dropping!? I'm sure Rob Flyyn shits too!?

Posted by Sean | May 20, 2008 6:21 PM | Reply to this

totally agree, i know soo many people including myself that havnt subscribed this time as believes kerrang has forgotten their true rock n roll spirit AC/DC on the cover of th first issue, and being sold out to the emo scene today

Posted by iona | May 21, 2008 10:07 AM | Reply to this

Hello, where will the artwork be posted?

Greetz,

Opeth did Remember Tomorrow years ago, it wasn't bad. Same for Arch Enemy when they did Aces High. But then they had a proper singer back then, not that useless cow.

Dream Theater have been confirmed to cover 'To Tame A Land'. I'm not entirely sure after hearing them cover 'The Number of the Beast' Album because of LaBrie's voice, but since it's a non-live recording I think it should be pretty good ^^

When will we exactly have the results of the contest, please ? ;-)

Posted by 4woom | May 28, 2008 11:32 AM | Reply to this

you have no idea how much of an influance iron maiden has made on peoples lives mate. I have been born and bread on them and i play bass bcuase of the immense influance that steve harris has put onto me without steve forming maiden you wouldnt have the inspiration for other such great metal bands. if you ever read the kerrang legends with iron maiden you would see they inspired the likes of metallica and slipknow just to name a few. If you look inside most metal cds in there special thanks irton maiden usually pops up, and its not just metal either maiden pop up in the special thanks for emo a lot and alternative to. Iron Maiden are true gods and if you want to slate them off you will be slating the entire rock comunity. ad if you wanna do that go right ahead.

dream theater to record to tame a land and machine head to do hallowed be thy name!

Posted by dave | June 9, 2008 2:02 PM | Reply to this

Hmm...suppose I will have to be open-minded about the Machine Head cover...but I can imagine i'll have to be open-mined about most of the covers

Posted by LaithXIII | June 12, 2008 10:40 PM | Reply to this

i thought Machine Head, Gallows, Sign and Fightstar were the best covers on the CD.
