The standard of British journalism has reached an all time low with The Daily Mail.

MCR is about finding hope in dark situations, not glorifying death. The Daily Mail completely twisted their lyrics and message and that's just wrong.

Journalists need to do their research and stop blaming bands because bands aren't responsible for the actions of another individual.

Emo intrigues me, because it's one of the oddest offshoots of punk/metal so far. It's got roots in Goth and pop-punk, yet doesn't have the vibrancy of either. It's also more 'uniform' than either. If it wasn't for the dress style, it'd just be the Manics all over again, but without the passion.

If we're talking about My Chem you're right that there's a definite transfusion of style. The lead guitarist Ray brings in the metal influence, while Frank the rhythm guitarist is the punk kid of the band, and of course Gerard adds the whole gothic glamour.
And personally I think My Chem is the only band for this to really work with (obviously it's not going to be to everyone's taste though and I'm cool with that :p)

Back in the days when MCR released their first album there was none of the emokid "omg their so hawt!!" following that they have today. Inevitably the band couldn't stop this from happening as they signed onto a major label but really, I think a lot of the reason why MCR are condescended so much today is because a couple of fans give the image that we're all immature little kids.

I'm just hoping that while the band are on their break now the ones who only like them for their looks will move onto the next trend...!

I'm a metalhead. I also cut myself when I was younger and attempted to kill myself, all for reasons that have nothing to do with music. My friends, who were all metalheads, were very supportive. Depression is a vicous bastard that, shockingly, affects people outside of emos. Cutting yourself for fashion is as stupid now as it always has been. Cutting because you have a problem, I think anyone would support someone who was suffering from that.

I totally get what you mean about MCR saying that they couldn't care less. I was against this march before I thought properly about it, however I went on youtube yesterday and saw gerard at one of mcr's gigs a while back getting the crowd to scream 'fuck the daily mail'.
Then I rethought everything, even though MCR likes to keep their heads down about this stuff, I think it's good that fans are standing for what they believe in.

Well i used 2 love MCR. Now I don't mind their music but Gerard Way has turned into a bit of a twat lately. I am also annoyed my Kerrangs sudden coverage of all things Mindless Self Indulgence since he married Lyn-Z. Let's face it most of us hadn't even heard of them till they got married.

But I do have 2 say one thing. No band deserves to be blamed for something like this. MCR have always made it clear to their fans that in no way should they self harm or kill themselves. I'm sick of people blaming actual MUSIC for tragedies that happen in the world just because the people involved are fans. So I think that what these guys are doing is good.

I think we should all act like emos. Whenever the government is screwing us over or there's something happening in the world that is unjust we should all moan and whine and bitch and complain about it. Right now there are people being massacred in Darfur and many other places, oil prices are skyrocketing, the US is stuck in a war that was waged purely for political gain, jobs are being outsourced, and education (at least in the US) is laughable. Yet people are just sitting on their asses and not speaking out against any of it.

im a fan of the band and im sick of people slagging them off, everybody has their own opinion but why does everybody have to act so stupid, i dont insult bands that i dont like and i also dont sterotype people wtf is the point.

For Christ's sake it's the Daily Mail. They're not cooking up consipracies about MCR, they're job is to keep parents afraid. Their job is to tell all the middle class nuclear families that their children are in danger of being gunned down at the local cinema and whatever denomination their child is following is the wrong one. Papers like the Daily Mail thrive and exist through keeping the middle classes in fear by priniting horriffic stories about other middle class families so when they read it, it strikes a chord because it's the effect of "that could be my family". As for their inaccuracy it's to be expected, they're not going to know anything about the movement in the 80's but there again how many people using this site do? All so ready to defend "EMO" when they don't know what real emo is, 90 percent of real emo bands aren't around anymore they've virtually all broken up.

Oh my! Really, i think it's wrong for a certain band to blamed for this kind of thing. Like alot of bands write there lyrics from personal experiences to help others get trhough the same kind of thing, I do find it pathetic how the Papers and Media judge bands that ake alternative music becasue it's wrong, Look at stars like Amy Winehouse and whatever, how cna her lyrics or anything help anyone, about drugs and sex! Wow what an inspiriation! And the whole 'Emo' thing makes me laugh, half of the people don't understand the true meaning of emo, except the whole stereotypical 'depressive' views. I think alot of people need to open there eyes to the real world, this does happen to EVERYONE not just people who like to be different.

I don't think it's very fair to blame a band for the suicide of a teenager. I hope that Gerard Way writes his music only to express what he's feeling and not what others should do or be like. Personally, I do not even slightly like negative "emo" music like MCR and I have no respect for people who self-harm just for a trend. I've gone through shit before, as I'm sure loads of other people here have and I'm accused of being Emo because of my looks but I don't give a sh*t because im anything but emo, and I just wish that Emos worldwide would just grow up.
