Celine Dion's AC/DC cover voted Worst Cover Version Of All Time

As rock fans, it's impossible to take anything the Daily Mail says seriously. However, we can't help but agree with the newspaper's recent poll of The Worst Cover Versions Of All Time.

Celine Dion's gawd awful rendition of AC/DC's You Shook Me All Night Long topped the Worst Cover Versions list with Girls Aloud and the Sugababes' version of the Run DMC reworking of Aerosmith's classic, Walk This Way, coming a close second.

In the newspaper's poll of The Best Cover Versions Of All Time, Jimi Hendrix's version of Bob Dylan's All Along The Watchtower came in at number one with Guns N' Roses version of Wing's Live And Let Die coming in at three. Nirvana's cover of David Bowie's The Man Who Sold The World and Muse's cover of Anthony Newley And Leslie Bricusse's Feeling Good came in at four and five respectively.

FUCK THE DAILY MAIL!

Posted by dark~wings | June 23, 2008 12:54 PM | Reply to this

The reason they're still going is because they're RESPECTED artists/bands! Without them where would our current rock scene be?

Why do you think they still sell out large venues today?

Oh and Dude, KISS may well be on their UPTEENTH reunion tour, but trust me, if you saw them at Download this year you'de agree that they put on one hell of an undeniably SPEC-FUCKING-TACULAR show that left everyone with a big shit eating grin on their faces! :D

Oh and quick question. What bands DO you actually like!? All I've seen you do on most articles on the site is bitch, bitch then bitch some more! lol if you couldn't give less of a fuck about the news posted here then why comment in the first place? lol

muse's version of feeling good is the best cover version even when they did it live at wembly etc.. It sounded better, thier version of House of the Rising sun was aslo a good cover

Oh I understand where you're coming from, but hey I'm just a bit more appreciative of bands, regardless of their longetivity :P

And Priest are still going strong, they bought heavy metal home at Download and proved they're still THE very definition of Heavy Metal.

And YOU didn't answer my question Andy, just WHAT bands DO you actually like other than Celine Dion? ;)

Maybe so. But there's no denying their strength in the live setting :p

Ok they may not be original, and yes they're probably in their 50's - maybe 60's - by now, but where the hell is your since of fun?

I honestly don't give a fuck who does what in a band, or who's in or out the band. It' something called THE MUSIC that I care about, and having a good time. (:

dont think a lot of AC/DC i hope 2 god the rumours arent true about them headlining download next yr and ye ozzy well enough said hes a twat would love to go to the ozz fest jus to bottle him :)

2 Original members actually, Paul and Gene :p ;)

AC/DC rawk! It would only be natural for them to headline Download next year, what with the new album in the works.

I do actually think Ozzy's past his sell by date though, Sharon's been pushing him to keep going but maybe he should call it a day so that he can leave behind a decent legacy lol

His last album was still pretty good though (:

Hardly!

They're not THAT old yet! :p

Besides you wouldn't know their age by looking at them anyhoo... :p

" AC/DC i hope 2 god the rumours arent true about them headlining download next yr"

Well who the f*ck would you rather have?!

There are very few bands that could shift as many tickets as AC/DC and even fewer who have got the songs and performance to warrant such a slot.

I find it funny that people are slating these bands, but are not offering any insight into their own favourite bands.

Be honest if you think everything before MCR is shit, then we can all have a good laugh at your vast understanding of "rock" music.

"Old" bands like AC/DC, Kiss and Judas Priest are still touring because people still want to see them! They sell out shows instantly (look at Led Zep last year!) If there was no demand, these bands would still be around.

If there's still demand for Fall Out Boy/MCR/PATD/Linkin Park/Gallows/Feeder/Disturbed/(Whichever current bands you think are better than the true greats) in 10, let alone 30 years time, I would be amazed.

It's not that I dislike the bands I mentioned, it's that they're all pale in comparison to the greats.

i agree i saw Sabbath when the did their reunion gig @ the NEC & it was the best gig ever!
there were kids as young as 10 there who had grownt up listening to this stuff like the 60 year old guy who was in the next row rollin up his weed!
you dont lay down a path of 30 years, to be rolled over by the newbies on the block now do ya?! plus most of these guys now took their influences from these people so without them there would be no bullet....etc

Posted by alan | June 23, 2008 5:38 PM | Reply to this

Nor does it make it worse. This in kind of the inverse of the usual everything new is shit' argument.

I'd say it's fair to say that AC/DC, for example, haven't really released a great album since Back in Black way back in 1980. Doesn't mean that that album is any less good, or that they're not good live.

There are some bands who don't know when to quit and piss over their legacy, and that's a shame. I'm looking at Aerosmith here...

Posted by The Toad | June 23, 2008 5:41 PM | Reply to this

2bh id like to see new talent there r plenty od decent bands about there such as a7x , bullet for my valentine, black tide, forever never, ill nino, metallica,, iron madien, red hot chilli peppers there are hudreds of modern bands that should be given the chance to headline, ac/dc are becoming past it and should move aside for new talent to take hold

Posted by EMOS GO DIE YOU KNO YOU WANT TO | June 23, 2008 5:58 PM | Reply to this

yeah
i dont have anything against classic music
i agree
i just think new talent shud be given a chance

Posted by Chim | June 23, 2008 6:58 PM | Reply to this

How did they choose Celine Dion's version over Shania Twain's cover of the same song?

Posted by Loz | June 23, 2008 7:08 PM | Reply to this

You're saying that about "new talent" coming along... How many years ago since Metallica's first album Kill Em All came out? 25 years. When was Iron Maiden formed? 1975. You don't seem to really have any idea of what you're on about. I agree with seeing new talent, give everything a bit of variation. But at the end of the day, it's the bands that have been around forever that really make a difference.

But then when they try and cover a slipknot song... it just didnt work
Hence the fact i think its crap!

Posted by Mattie | June 23, 2008 9:32 PM | Reply to this

Oh ffs.

All of you going on about the old bands, they made the music scene the way it is today! Without them there'd be no "emo", "screamo", "metal" or "rock" because they created all of this!

And onto the Children of Bodom thing; i think Alexi and the others were taking the complete piss, and when ya think on some covers its not that bad; i agree its hilarious but its not that bad XD

Posted by Fryman | June 23, 2008 9:57 PM | Reply to this

Firstly i love how this all spawned from a comment about AC/DC.

Anyways, the majority of people who pay (a lot) to go see bands like Judas Preist, KISS, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbeth etc, are in fact people who have been fans since those bands started up and have grown up lsitening to them.

Granted you will have a good few people who are new to them and weren't even born when the band were starting up, but these 'Die-Hard' fans are the ones keeping the bands going. You could say that the bands are 'money-grabbing' but if people are willing/stupid enough to pay to see them who's to say they shouldn't?

At the end of the day if bands you liked today are still going in 40 years time would you still pay to see them? or would you disregard ever loving them because they're old, and stay away because some cunt on a internet forum told you they're shit?

Posted by Dave | June 24, 2008 12:35 AM | Reply to this

Just the thought of Celine Dion covering any rock song makes my ears bleed, but and AC/DC song? Really? I think I want to vomit!!

Posted by Miguel | June 24, 2008 4:07 AM | Reply to this

NOT all old bands are shit etc... MAYHEM... are still better and heavier then most of the moaning twats going about at the moment!

And they have been around for so long... but they'd still destroy most new bands as would Slayer... so unfortunately ANDYMARK has gone down in my estimation, not that he'd give a fuck which is why he enjoys pissing you all off! Basically because most of you are dumb enough to rise to his taunts.

I fear you underestimate the importance of the 40 some years hereitage of rock music, not to mention it's roots stretching back decades further. do you wish to disavow these also? I am dismayed that you should show such disrespect to performers, without whom many current artists would not exist. You are either ignorant, arrogant or just plain mentally subnormal. you choose.
Incidentally, if you need any of this translating into what it appears you regard as English, drop dead.

I have to agree. They've been consistent since Back in Black. Decent albums, but nothing that could be described as a classic. And live they've always delivered.
Aerosmith? The Toxic Twins should have OD'ed at the end of the 70's. No collaborating with rap filth, no Armageddon songs, no 20 years of shite. They would have gone out at the top.

geeze, this is retarded. AC\DC had its time, as did the rest of the bands mentioned. i understand that nothing in rock would be here without those band, but without the new bands there would be no innovation. for every new band that comes out hating the old shit, there will be a new sound, a new technique. That is the point of music, to progress. Not to dwell on the past and what has been. i mean if you want to, go for it. pay 100 bucks to see 60 year olds dancing on stage still pretending it's the eighties. or 70s. or 60s.
and imo every AC\DC album sounded the same after Back in Black. i like them sometimes, but theyre not amazing.

Excuse me mate,
but do you really not have anything else to do in your life, besides leaving critical, childish comments on a website?

Yes, I am aware, that the only person you care about is yourself. You see I, unlike other people, read what people have to say.

Basically every singe page I go onto, you've left at least one critical, and sometimes offensive, comment. Now, I'm all for expressing my beliefs, but quite frankly, I think your a bit over the top. I mean, bringing Bullet for my Valentine into something that is nothing to do with them whatsoever? What is that all about.
Can't you go do something productive with your time. This comment is probably one of the most hypocritical things I have said, but it seems like you basically live on this website.

Before I leave though, may I add that I don't care if you send me back an offensive comment. I couldn't care less about what a stupid, self-obsessed, immature person has to say to me.

You have your opionions (even if they are all generally negative on these forums) and I have mine, and thats it. I doubt that how you appear on a computer screen is an accurate representation of the real 'andymark', I bet you don't just go around bitching and moaning about stuff in your general life do you? And I bet you ain't that stupid to see as with any opionion, some people don't wanna know and generally don't give a fuck what you have to say. If people can't hack what others post on here thats their problem really. So (as you need me to say it!) post as much neative stuff as you want, I've well thrown the towl in on this one lol!

How the fuck can you criticise bands for doing it just for the money, when the lead singer from your favourite band was the frontman in busted. andymark you really are a miserable pathetic excuse for a human being. Can't any of you realise that you're NEVER going to agree, seeing as there's always going to be someone else with a different opinion on a band to you.. and thankfully it's still a free enough world to have an opinion.

I think you should all chill out and dance around yer bedrooms blasting whatever music makes you happy to vent, rather than swearing at a comment on a website. The people you're swearing at really don't care what you think about them, if they did they wouldn't come on here practically every day just finding something else to piss and moan about. It's nothing new to them so leave them to it... everyone is entitled to their opinion without having the shit verbally kicked out of them for doing so.. there are of course certain people here who just like to be a nuisance *cough* well, if that's what makes them happy then whatever :)

And finally, my point of view - both Celene Dion and AC/DC annoy the hell out of me.. therefore - the song will suck and i'm glad i've never heard it. The end. Anyone want to disagree? go ahead, i shant be back to argue lol!

Yes. Dr Feelgood would have been an excellent swansong. Oh well, Vince got fat. Tommy Lee got hepatitis and a skank, Nikki got lazy, and Mick Mars just got back from the dead.

I am surprised, even though the artist, known as Elvis Presley, which did perform quite successful to a record of sell out performances in his day, also did cover versions of other artists. Those that he did, he acknowledged them either in inviting them to his show, and meet him off stage or he took care of some of their debts. Just so that they can get a fresh life. It was a humble jesture but can you name me any other recording artists (living or dead)that did show that must appreciation? Not many especially when Rock N Roll should not forget its roots! It all started with a simple 45 and now has blossomed into CD's and MP3's and internet sharing. But to charge a fee, I feel is not completly wrong but come on now, ease up everyone, that is the American Way! Life, liberty and the Prusuit of the Mighty Dollar(s)! ! ! !
