Chester: "I am not Velvet Revolver's new singer"

Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has dismissed rumours that he is set to replace Scott Weiland as the new frontman of Velvet Revolver.

In an exclusive interview for next week's Kerrang! magazine Bennington said:

"I'm friends with all the guys in Velvet Revolver and have played with all of them before. I'm friends with Scott [Weiland] too. I think the rumour that I was going to join Velvet Revolver started because Slash asked me if I'd come play a show with them in Vegas right around the time that Scott left the band. Timing-wise, it didn't work out for me, though. Maybe people assumed that invitation meant I was joining the band."

"It would be very uncomfortable for me to join that band because I'm friends with all of them, including Scott," Bennington continues. "If I was even going to do just one show, or record just one song with them, I'd have to know it was okay with my band, all those guys and Scott too.

That said, if Bennington didn't have prior commitments or wasn't friends with all parties, he'd jump at the chance:

"If I wasn't in Linkin Park anymore and I didn't know Scott, though, I'd say yes," he says. "Who wouldn't? The music is great and it would be a really cool opportunity."

Thank fuck for that!yeah ok it would cool to meet slash and duff and the gang but I don't think Chester would be good for the band...no offense mate but he doesn't look or sound right for the band...keep up the good work in Linkin Park!! xxx

He belongs in Linkin Park and what they have done with music is immense, i cant imagine him in another band to be honest and i really dont think he'd fit in well with velvet revolver!

Well, Chester does sing with Camp Freddy sometimes. Slash and Dave Navarro seem to be having a love affair with his voice. And he is capable of sounding just like Scott Weiland. But that's only because he idolizes the guy and has since he was a kid.

But, Chester's got better things to do. And VR would be better off to go in a different direction with a completely different kind of singer. Whomever they get, I hope he/she is sober and together.

Scott weiland is a dreadful singer who was completely engulfed by himself, he loved himself almost as much as slash loved himself

i don't usually insult bands on this site, but i truly believe that velvet revolver are as dreadful as sellouts nickelback, and choir boys Elliot minor, although they are from different genres, they are in the same league for how generally dreadful they are

velvet revolver are nowhere near the league that linkin park are, they are legends, and their legend will continue to increase as they progress through their careers and creating superior music to velvet revolver, who i am not sad in the slightest to say, should just give up! because they have no point in life anymore, except to become even bigger sellouts than they are now

yes that was a harsh comment, and a lot of you probably think it wasn't needed, but i feel that bands like velvet revolver need to just give up, because they aren't as loved as the bands that their members were previously part of, guns n roses for example, who can honestly say they like VR more than guns n roses, nobody i know says that

This all makes sense. Quite a few of you kids are probably too young to remember how good Kerrang USED to be. Now it's just Linkin Park and Indie Rock fans on this website. Have some respect for a good band and stop branding Velvet sell-outs without cause. If Slash and Duff wanted money, where would it lie? VR or a GnR reformation? I think the answer is obvious. Chester is a great singer, but not for VR.

Linkin park are good but are fuck all compared to the legends of velvet revolver!

And all bands are sell outs, They all do it for financial gain, if they didnt you would never here a new album, or see a new tour... so stop using that as an excuse you dumb fuck!

I hate linkin park, liked them at first untill i saw them live at a gig and he dropped the mic but funnily enough his voice was still going.... total twat!

And no offence to Linkin Park fans but he does not have the right voice, status or right charisma for VR.

Chris Cornell formerly of Audioslave would have the right voice possibly...

Yeah Chester did anawesome job with Camp Freddy, SLash and Duff seem to be obsesed with Chester, they jam with him all the time. Duff even said he was in favor of Chester joining VR But VR members are all past 40 and out of their prime, where Linkin Park is moving head strong (Yes I didn't like MTM either) but still they have more then VR right now. Also Chester's fav band is Stone Temple Pilots.

I love VR and LP but come on!!! Am I the only 1 thinkin that if Chester joined the result would be terrible, terrible music?!?!? Im so happy he's not joining. If Chester left Linkin Park to join another band, it wouldn't feel right, Linkin Park are the best badn on this planet, and Chesters voice is amazing, along with Mike, they are like brothers, they whole band are like brothers, he couldn't leave them.
And even if he did leave, I'd still support LP and Chester no matter what.
