Nickelback sign a new squillion dollar deal

He may be spending more time in his 'hilltop houses' than driving his 'fifteen cars' after getting convicted of drink driving earlier this year, but Nickelback's already smug frontman Chad Kroeger has every reason to be even smugger after signing a new $70 million record deal.

The Canadian band have been snapped up by concert promoters Live Nation - who already look after Madonna, U2 and Jay-Z - for a three album deal plus a cut of tour profits, merch sales, fan club cashola and broadcast rights.

However, there's still the small matter of the two albums Chad and Co. owe to current label Roadrunner Records...

In related news, Nickelback's single, Rockstar, (which has been in the UK Top 40 Singles Chart since LAST OCTOBER!!!) has been named the second biggest-selling single of 2008 and the band's 2005-released album, All The Right Reasons, the third biggest-selling album of 2008.

I love Nickelback! But I'm getting really pissed off with what's going on at the moment. All The Right Reasons has been out since 2006!! I saw them when they were opening for Bon Jovi on the tour promoting Have A Nice day and they've already managed to churn out Lost Highway! Where the hell is the new album? When I first Rockstar I thought it was great, funny, clever song but now I absolutely hate it!! The record label are being greedy trying to get as much money out of this band as they can, that's why they released Rockstar and now I see they've re-released Photograph!! That was the first single from the album! This is the reason why bands split up! Record company greed!

I do like a few of their older tracks, and I must be honest here, I did like Rockstar when I first heard it but when it is on the radio, day after day and every time I get in the car, it does get a bit old. Every time now I hear the beginning of that song I cringe and go and hide somewhere, lol.

Over-used song now though, I reckon, but there are many people who have different opinions and I'm just stating mine, lol.

I agree, they are a gr8 band, I loved 'Savin me', but now Rockstar is annoying. i h8 how peeps put on their msn names 'Rockstar - fuckin heavy!' or sumin like tht, coz its not a rock song. I've had Photograph on my Ipod since 2006 as well.

I couldn't agree with you more Max, I'm sick of hearing bloody Rockstar. Nickelback used to be my fave band but now they've just sold out, in it for the money and not the music. Reminds me of Good Charlotte, old stuff class, new stuff just fitting in with this new wave of awful music. I hope chad enjoys his money, cos i won't be supporting them no more. This isn't a matter of jealousy, it's simply people, like me, with brains that detest being subjected to Rockstar 10 times a day whenever they flick onto Kerrang, or any other channel for that matter.
