Download 2009 is on!

Kerrang! is pleased to announce that the UK's number one rock festival, Download, will return to Donington next June.

Festival organizers Live Nation have confirmed that Download 2009 will take place on 12, 13, 14 June 2009.

"Ever since the first ever Monsters of Rock in 1980 Donington Park has been the spiritual home to pure and unadulterated heavy rock music," they say in an official statement. "When we started Download in 2003 we had no interest in changing that rich history and that feeling still remains strong!

"We are also delighted to announce that Download 2009 takes place over the weekend of 12, 13, 14 June 2009. If you are one of those people who still keep a diary, smack it in there now! Otherwise tattoo this information on your arm now (please note the Download team takes no responsibility for anyone silly enough to do this!)"

So, the question on everyone's lips is: Who would you live to see headline next year's festival?

You gotta give two of the slots to Machine Head and Slipknot. Let's forget about the hedliners from the last two years (with the exception of Iron Maiden) and bring Download back to the metal festival it always was and always should be. Slipknot deserve a headliners spot, as do MH. Come on Donnington, answer the prayers of the masses!

The headliners for 2009 should be Slipknot to make up for their last festival pull out at Reading and Leeds. Also the other two headliners should be Killswitch Engage and hmmm someone really random but awesome like Dir en grey or someone?!

I would be brave and ask for things like MCR, Aiden, Madina Lake etc...
But didn't Download always used to be a metal fest, like Metallica/Iron Maiden etc?
I'm not trying to slag off my favourite bands or whatever, but they're not the metal bands I always got the vibe that Download were after.

Heck. Put on MCR and that if you like, I'm not allowed to go anyways.
I was just thinking that older videos of Download contain loads more metal bands that todays ones do.

We Need some proper Metal Music. I was rather Hoping Metallica would be headlining next year but they are on tour the exsact same time :( Not fair. But If AC/DC headline it's going to be awesome. Trouble is there are alot of bands which I think should headline.
No More MCR please, they had there time, Slayer and Machine Head should have been the Headliners With Iron Maiden.
There should be a wide rang of bands though to satifiy everyone.
I want In Flames to come back again Maybe they should headline?

With the new albums out this year it’s got to be Metalica and AC/DC and Slipknot. But considering how poor the last few years have been (apart from Maiden of course) I have to say I doubt we are going to see any of them, and Kerrang (I know they were only sponsors in 2008) will just deliver another mediocre show, just look at the Kerrang tour for goodness sake!

I'm not sure what planet some people are living on - we're looking for headliners. Paramore and chums are nowhere near big enough.

The dream headliners would be AC/DC, Metallica and Guns 'n' Roses, and if that happened it'd probably sell out. I'd imagine that at least one of those won't play, so Slipknot will probably get a headline slot to fill in.

It could be good, but given the direction it's been going in I expect to not really be as good as it could be. Looks like it may be Bloodstock for me again...

(Or Metalcamp. Best festival name ever. :) )

Unsurprisingly I would like to see AC/DC, Iron Maiden and Metallica there for legendary status.

Slipknot (probably won't happen as they may well do reading instead)

Seriously those six bands would make any festival great. However in all likelyhood we will only get one if any, and my money is on AC/DC.

I can see more of them doing Reading than Download if I am honest.

friday - Nickelback (just signed to live nation for touring and album cycles following the new album release)

sat - Metallica (if you need me to explain why im gunna assume you've been in a coma and arent aware of the amazing death magnetic!)

sun - here's the tricky one for me - if they really wanna bring home the bacon this year i think they gotta land another legendary act - if so its gotta be ACDC, but in the event they cant i fully expect slipkot to headline...

And with the whole MCR thing, I love My Chemical Romance but 3 things.
1. MCR are the band that you go see them headline thier own show. They play better and the enviorment is just better.
2. At download all they get is bottles.
3. They arent touring at the moment and there on hitus. (I really need to learn to spell)

But what I really want to know is why MCR all ways go on attack on the simple fact that seeing as well for example say your a maggot there a reason why you love slipknot. It the same with the MCR. Ok I know there the whole Gerard Way fans but if you get down to the core of MCR fans there fucking passonate for the music. (spelling sucks)

Dont get me wrong, i like mcr, but i really wish people would stop suggesting them to headline. It is a bad idea to have them headlining a festival like download.
They got bottled last time by quite a large amount of the crowd, which goes to show that alot of the people who attend download didnt enjoy their style of music.
Though i respect that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and that they should remember that their opinion is NOT the only opinion.

Would be good if the fest brought in a bit more metal and more european metal like Sonata that we dont traditionally get to shake things up a bit. FullMoon would be epic live at download, especially if they improve the stage layout from last year!

As you can see from my above post I have varied tastes and will listen to metal, death metal, hard rock, punk rock etc, and it'd be great to get some of the bands who don't come to the UK too often.

Throw in; Lamb Of God, Bleeding Through, Megadeth, Machine Head, Mastodon, Slipknot and you've got a metal festival.
Maybe Download should "do a Glastonbury" and throw in a rap act to headline. Snoop Dogg for Download '09!!!!!!!

and dont put MCR on this year fuck me if they played 09 gerard way would get ripped to shreads

i have no probs with MCR but they got slaughtered last year lol

is it me or is download becoming less and less metal. its kinda losing its amazingness lol

Jeez would everyone stop insulting my chem. I listen to stuff like children of bodom and lamb of god but MCR isn't a bad band. In fact they are my favorite. They aren't emo, gerard even said emo is a pile of shit. I hate emo kids and I listen to them. If you want to know a bad band look up 3OH!3, they suck. But MCR has instruments and some guitar solos so they aren't bad. At least they aren't rappers or super poppy.

I am sure you can think of another band that is worse.

(Oh and vote Avenged Sevenfold for some good stuff!!)
