Today (Tuesday, April 21) is officially Iron Maiden Day, and to celebrate the band are launching their new movie, Flight 666, in cinemas tonight.
The KKKKK-rated feature length documentary was produced by award winning directors Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen (Metal: A Headbanger's Journey) is showing on an impressive 450 screens in 42 countries.
The film documents the group's Somewhere Back In Time World Tour during 2008 as it travelled across the globe in the band's own plane - Ed Force One - piloted by frontman Bruce Dickinson.
Last night Kerrang! was lucky enough to attend the London premiere of the movie, walking the red carpet with the band. Katie Parsons reports:
"The screening was held at the Odeon Cinema on High Street Kensington, and was attended by members of the band, all of the group's road crew - who play a vital role in the film and indeed the tour - as well as the flight staff from Ed Force One - in full air hostess outfits - and family and fans of the band too.
"Before the film started, the audience were treated to a welcome speech by Bruce on stage at the cinema, as well as a short introduction from movie makers Sam Dunn and Scot McFadyen who confessed how intimidated they were by the task before it began, but how by the end of the film they felt part of the Iron Maiden family.
"The film features incredible live footage of the band at various venues around the globe, and documents the amazing reception they receive throughout the tour - especially in South America where the dedication and enthusiasm of Maiden fans is totally inspirational.
"Throughout the screening, the audience sung along to the classic Maiden tunes performed on screen, and the Maiden crew heckled their buddies - chanting 'You're shit and you know you are' at every opportunity. All in all, an amazing night - go see the film - and then get it on DVD and force your granny to love them too!"
