Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison is gearing-up for the release of his own range of Pro-Mark drumsticks signed using his own blood!
"We really wanted to do something that would set this signature stick apart from a run of the mill release," Jordison exclusively tells Kerrang!. "The idea of mixing my actual blood into the paint seemed like a perfect way of doing that."
The drummer went down to the Pro-Mark studios, and with the aid of a doctor, extracted two vials of blood that were then stirred into the paint mix for his signature drum sticks.
"Anyone can sign a drumstick and call it their own," says Jordison, "but with my blood in there, it's me, plain and simple."
The drummer explains, losing blood is an almost daily and inevitable part of the Slipknot lifestyle.
"When we were recording Slipknot [1999]; I had 17 open blisters on my left hand and 19 on my right hand - all bleeding - and my kit looked like a murder scene!" he says. "Then once in Seattle, I pulled my whole drum rack over and landed under it and the stage was covered in blood. It looked like I'd been shot!"
Jordison hopes the new stick - named the TX 515W, after Slipknot's Des Moines 515 area code - will inspire a new generation of players to get drumming.
"These sticks are basically the same ones I played as a kid so hopefully they'll all feel the same way I did!"
I don't think he'd be happily touring with the 'Knot if he had a serious illness :P
I'll admit I like Slipknot but they're not the best band in the world.
You have to admire Joey as a drummer though cos he is pretty damn good, hell the band could probably go without Clown, Chris, Craig/Sid and they'd still be good to me.
Im probably going to be getting a pro-model drum kit within the next couple of years. I dont have the space for one right now, but these sticks I have space for!
