Manson speaks out about school shootings

In a world exclusive interview in tomorrow's Kerrang! magazine, Marilyn Manson speaks out against school shootings, or rather him being blamed for them.

"If there was a Grammy Award for death toll, it would be mine," Manson told Kerrang! "Blaming me for Columbine was ridiculous. It's a lack of responsibility from everyone. If you want to blame something, well, I went to Christian school. That's why I write what I write. Shall we blame the Christians?"

The Double M says that being linked to the Columbine massacre essentially ruined his career.

"I lost everything because of Columbine," continues. "There has to be that first person who takes the arrows in the back and I guess that was me."

For the full interview, be sure to pick upa copy of this week's Kerrang! magazine.

I'm not his biggest fan, but it's ridiculous how he gets blamed for all this stuff! I doubt he turned normal people into murderers, you've got to be pretty messed up already if a song makes you kill people. Music doesn't make murderers. Maybe the culture that goes with the music, but not the music itself. The media just look for a scapegoat instead of sorting out the real problems, which is a lot more likely to be depressed people that need help, maybe if they were given this help they wouldn't do this stuff!
Leave MM alone!

I Do Think It's Stupid The Way The Press Has Managed To Turn Round These Shooting And Blame It On Music.

Manson Didn't TELL That Person To Shoot Anyone So It's Not Really His Fault Is It...

The press are getting a bit carried away these days, they blame everything they can on the rock scene just because they dont aprove. Yes music influences us but its not THAT extreme, dam. I think it's about time that press such as the daily mail start looking towards themsleves when looking for someone to blame.

The press always use music as a scapegoat. I am most definately not a fan of Manson...but the way the media has attacked music repeatedly really pisses me off. Music does not create evil, it is already there inside someone.

Although, Manson could try and react with a little more sensitivity- people have died and hes saying he should get a Grammy, and whines that he's lost 'everything'. If hes lost that much- he wouldnt still have coverage in any magazine..

Tbh i dont understand how he can get blamed for it.. like someone else said, he didnt go and tell them to go and shoot people.. The press go too far and i think they are just being stupid..

How dumb can people still be? Those dumb kids in school didnt even listen to Marilyn Manson. They listened to KMFDM Ramstein, and did it on hitlers birthday for christ sakes!

I did my media coursework on this. The Bowling For Columbine documentary was really good on this subject...how on earth they could get away with blaming him I dont know. There are SO MANY implications of violence etc in music, it doesn't mean the message is to go round inducing massacres. Its just such a short sited view it really does make me angry! Like Manson said, they should start looking for blame in who influenced him, if they're going to play that game. They can't just stop there and use him as a scapegoat, but people are so unwilling to explore the actual reasons for these things happening! Makes me angry, this does!

As a media employee for Marilyn Manson, I honestly think this is fucking bullshit. Not because I like the guy and the music and because I work for him but America is just fucked up. Example, because fucking Taliban did their Shit to our towers on 9-11, they see all fucking Middle Easter people as terrorist. I'm 100% American, and trust me, yes, I love my country, but at times I rather be some where else where shit like this doesn't happen. Unfortunately, any where you go, this is bound to happen. If it happens in our own families, how do we not expect for this like this to happen in our country.

If I could meet the person that first blamed Manson or even music for this shit, I'd fucking go off on them. Just like Brian said (aka-Manson) Lets listen to our kids instead of pushing them away, it creates shit like the Columbine.

Thanks,

-FE

To be honest,
I dont particularly like Manson's songs, & he is EXTREMELY boring live.

But,
Im glad he's finally speaking about it.
Cos it is just PATHETIC how, not just MM, but rock and metal in general, seem to be the scapegoat for anything like this.
The kid listened to MM, so straight away thats the reason, which is f*****g ridiculous.

We have some great media in this country but none of it is really mainstream. Amy Goodman from Democracynow.org and Bill Moyers come to mind. Everyone wants a scapegoat like Manson because they they don't admit that America has become a soulless place full of morons. When Dimebag Drrell from Pantera was murdered someone from Fox News (may have been Bill O'Reilly) said that of course there was going to be violence surrounding him since his nickname was a drug reference. In reality, the dude was an ex military gun nut, two things they support on their network. Hypocrisy is very thick here

i hated it when he got blamed for it and it did ruine his carrer as well. jsut cos one of the men listened to him wtf is that about i really hate that. every part of the media blames this/our type of music cos it is easy to blame on they hide behnd it and it is not right.

It's crazy just because one of them listened to mm to blame him, one of them may listen to the spice girls, should we then blame the spice girls??? wise up

It could have went the other way. He might have got a great boost from the hooey that came from that tragedy.

Oh well. Better luck next time...

Umm...Didn't he choose to go all dark? Did he just realize there's a lack of accountability and responsibility in society - or maybe the epiphany came with Columbine?

He does have a share of the blame, to ignore that completely is an insult to his potential of intelligence. I wouldn't call Columbine all his fault though. Mistakes like that happen when there's a trifecta of errors.

It's extremely absurd to blame Brian Warner for this fucked up incident at Columbine.
You wont ever find the phrase in his lyrics "pick your guns, shoot up your schools"...
I mean, you'd have to be butt fucking retarded to put that in there thinkin' you won't get blamed for it. The ass backwards society of America and it's ass backwards politics makes our country that much more dysfunctional and we get looked upon as the country with shitty morality standards.
This world as a whole needs to stop walking backwards in the evolution scale.
Apparently nobody is going to wake up and realize that.

The media always blames music for things that wasnt their fault.

The media blamed MCR for Hannah Bonds death when it had nohing to do with them.

it stupid. The media should get their facts right before writing a story and find out the real reason they done it not just blame a band or singer that the person likes.

I will be the first person to say that Marilyn Manson is by far my least favorite person on the face of the planet, though I do not hate him and actually like some of his music.

However, I actually find myself agreeing with him on this particular subject. He had nothing to do with Columbine, nor did he have anything to do with other school shootings he has been so-called 'linked' to. I believe it's bogus, and he shouldn't be blamed for something he had no control over.

i think it was ridiculous to blame Manson on the Columbine shootings......but it's just as ridiculous of Manson to blame all that on ruining his career.....i liked Manson's music up to Eat Me, Drink Me, so I'm not trying to start anything.....but I think his "shock" appeal was a major reason he had a major career in the first place....inevitably that "shock" would wear off real quickly and it did. He still put out good albums after that...well two......but the numbers dwindled. Why? Not because of Columbine....the "shock" wore off and the cool kids needed something new. Now Manson's just a sad image of his former self......stop drinking, Manson, it's killing your brain cells and it's really beginning to show.

Columbine didn’t ruin Marylyn Manson’s career. He simply was not provocative enough to sustain the type of career persona he built for himself. Numerous artists have been involved (either purposefully or inadvertently) in controversy and continue to have careers (some even have posthumous record sales). The only person still talking about the connection between Marilyn Manson and Columbine is Brian Warner.

okay was it marylyn taht fucking picked up a gun and decided to kill a bunch on teens and turn the gun on himself, no it wasen't so to blame him is fucking stupid, his music has nothign to do with it, i dont think peeople that listen to his music wanna kill people, it effects us all in a different way, but not that way.i like marylyn mansion's music, and how smart he actually is.

I'm not a fan but seriously. How is it his fault? There would have to be something wrong with you for a song make you go out and shoot people. The song was obviously not written to create murderers. Its people just looking for a scapegoat.
