Biffy near completion of new studio album

Biffy Clyro have returned to Los Angeles to put the finishing touches to their new album, the provisionally-entitled Boom, Blast And Ruin.

The trio are currently at Ocean Way recording studios with [2007’s Puzzle] producer GGGarth Richardson. Frontman Simon Neil tells Kerrang! of the benefits of recording at weeks at a time.

“It’s been easier recording it in blocks,” he says. “We ran ourselves into the ground when we recorded Puzzle. It’s so hard to stay mentally focussed for two to three months, so we’re not tearing our hair out this time.”

Ocean Way is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after recording facilities, thanks to its collection of vintage microphones and antique equipment. Oh, and the small matter of it being one of Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley’s favourite studios.

“I don’t normally put pictures up in my vocal booth, but I’ve taped pictures of them on the wall,” he smiles. “Being a studio steeped in history is a real pinch-me moment. It sounds like a hippy-dippy thing to say, but there’s a really great vibe about the place. It’s amazing.”

Hot damn, can't wait.

Gutted they sold out their Barras shows this year. Hopefully the album will make up for the disappointment.
