Every Time I Die frontman defends Pete Wentz

Every Time I Die frontman Keith Buckley has defended the band's decision to feature a guest contribution from Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz on their forthcoming album.

"Pete has been a friend to Every Time I Die since we formed this band in the late 90's," says Buckley in a statement. "He's an old hardcore kid like the rest of us. In the years we've known him, he's come to be one of the most influential, creative and controversial faces in the music world and those are characteristics we respect immensely.

"Every Time I Die has never been one to shy away from controversy and including him on our record is a way to show everyone who listens to us that we are unconcerned with stringently adhering to mores and expectations. We have always been true to our friends and ourselves and I will take full advantage of being able to collaborate with artists whose talents I respect.

"Pete's an amazing writer, vocalist and dude, as are [Dillinger Escape Plan frontman] Greg Puciato and [The Bronx vocalist] Matt Caughtran and they all killed it in the studio. I'm proud to add them to the list of influential musicians/close friends I've been lucky enough to work with..."

The band's latest album, New Junk Aesthetic, will be released on September 14 through Epitaph.

Good on him for defending Pete.
It's the band's decision who they have on their album, and it's obvious they're happy with his work. So the fans should be happy too, especially since ETID is promoting friendliness and acceptance between genres in this.

It's their choice, and people should respect that. I think that it's nice that they're not being dicks to every other band on the planet.

Agreed it is there decision who they include on there album and also I agree with them Pete is a talented musician and writer at the end of the day he is good at what he does it may not be everyone's cup of tea but you have got to respect him for that even though it is at times difficult to respet him because of the way he acts and the things he says

Fair play. I mean, I think Pete Wentz is a fag, but it's not my album he's on. Good on them for defending themselves coherently and not just saying "FUCK ALL Y'ALL HATERZ OUT THERE!!!" like a certain red-capped wank stain I won't mention.

Total, total respect to you Keith. As long as I have been a fan of your band you have always stood by your convictions. To see a band putting honesty, respect and friendship before meaningless kudos and scene points is both refreshing and humbling. I only hope that more bands will now follow your lead

soooo agree about that (balding) red-capped wankstain-on-the-blanket-of-humanity

and, yer good for them for doing what they want and not what everyone elce wants.

Pete Wentz is not an amazing writer.
He just writes random lines and puts them together.
His songs mean nothing.

It's a shame, people can't except that people actually have some love in their bodies, I think it's a disgrace people call him all these names, you don't know the guy personally, so don't say it, it's so wrong to wish death on people, just for gods sake give it a rest, grow up and stop letting jealousy get in the way...

oh, dear god... tleast someone is defending him *sigh* i'm not a massive fan of pete wentz, i dont know him but i'm fuckin' sick of people giving him shit. i dont think people should pass judgment unless they know what their talking about. so i'm glad someine is defending him.

TBF im not a fan of pete wentz or fall out boy but his vocals for Arma Angelus with tim mcilrath (rise against) were good and he is an original hardcore kid at heart

Posted by George | July 9, 2009 10:58 PM | Reply to this

dude listen to Arma Angelus his previous band with tim mcilrath of rise against and yes that is pete wentz on vocals

I think it's brilliant that Every Time I Die are continuing to ignore the barriers that haunt our scene as whole. I really do believe that when you open your mind some of the best music is made. Good on Keith for exposing these critics ignorance.

I think this is a great collaboration, Just because Wentz is in FOB doesn't mean he cant enjoy or be a part of more Hardcore music. It's clear to see ETID know Wentz better than all of us, so if they think its a good decision to collaborate with him then i trust them.

I think it is good he has defended him. Just shows what a nice, genuine guy he is and it is the bands choice who they allow to be on their album. If it was someone I never liked who was a guest on the album it still wouldn't bother me 'cause it shows what a nice guy he truly is.

Posted by Amy Dunlop | July 10, 2009 1:23 PM | Reply to this

i never really gave two fucks what people thought about pete and i still dont give two fucks. ETID are the exact same! and plus, many FOB fans will probably buy the album cause pete's on it so its makin the band a fair bit of money. in the end, ETID just wanted to collaberate with people with some tallent and i guess pete has that whether or not 90% of the population hates him cause they're being loyal to their friend.

Posted by shellehx | July 10, 2009 1:29 PM | Reply to this

I don't see the problem, it is up to EETID who they want to work with. If you don't like Pete, well don't bloody listen to the track!

Posted by sara | July 10, 2009 1:37 PM | Reply to this

people dont seem to realise what pete wentz used to be before fall out boy. if everyone had heard arma angelus' music they'd have a surprise. what they also dont know is that they only started fall out boy out of boredom and i think all of the members of fall out boy are from a hardcore background. fall out boy was just more popular. i think is great that pete is featured in the ETID album because it shows people the hardcore side to him and with the amount of pete wentz followers there are in the world its also a smart thing.

I think good on them, this shows that other alternative genre can work together. All alternative genres need to stick together not be at war.
MAKE LOVE AND MUSIC NOT WAR!!!!!

Does it really matter who ETID have on their album?
I think the judgement should be made when we hear the track. We don't know how much Pete has contributed or if we'll even notice it.
Who cares who's on an album, as long as the music's good, it doesn't matter who made it.

Posted by Tasha | July 10, 2009 1:51 PM | Reply to this

the main focus here should be on HOW AWESOME IT IS THAT ETID ARE RELEASING ANOTHER ALBUM, dont like wentz?? thats just one track you'll have to skip then i guess?? itll be your own loss tho haha

Buckley in underestimating the quality of his fans and his music with this. He's acting like if he needs to justify Pete's appearance! Please Buckley, just shut the hell up, nobody gives a shit about Pete Wentz.

Posted by Vicky | July 10, 2009 2:50 PM | Reply to this

I think that it's kind of messed up that he HAD to defend Pete. Why would he assume that Pete's presence on the album would be such a bother to others? And even if it were, Buckley shouldn't have to say anything about it. Screw what other people think, it's their bloody album they can put whoever they damn well please on it.

Hmm, forgive me but it's almost like the use of Pete Wentz was a tool to draw attention to their new album and recover their dwindling fan base?

"The band's latest album, New Junk Aesthetic, will be released on September 14 through Epitaph."

I rest my case.

They shouldn't HAVE to defend Pete. I'm sure many people aren't bothered that he's on it. If you don't like it, don't listen to whatever songs Pete's on. However, I think Pete is great lyricist and he can scream and growl as hard as any 'hardcore kid'.

Posted by Lucy | July 10, 2009 3:58 PM | Reply to this

how the hell do you know that his songs mean nothing? The songs mean something to the writer, you obviously haven'tused your ears and mind and listened out for the true meanings.

Posted by Lucy | July 10, 2009 4:02 PM | Reply to this

Plugging their new album comes to mind here. Why should they defend him? I'm not a fan of Fall Out Boy, but Pete's a good singer. Just don't listen to the song he's on if youre not happy with it. Seems simple enough.

Posted by Caz | July 10, 2009 5:02 PM | Reply to this

Well I don't think the band need to defend Pete because why should they have to answer to Pete hating people, it's up to them who they want on their album and no amount of fans should stop this happening!

Posted by Zoe | July 10, 2009 5:51 PM | Reply to this

Why does it even matter? Obviously they think so much of Pete that they presume there's going to be some kind of outcry.. 'How dare you collaborate... he wears womens jeans ffs!' etc. If it works, do it, screw everyone else!

Posted by Jojo | July 10, 2009 6:03 PM | Reply to this

Im not a massive fan of Pete Wentz, but im pretty much sick of bands bitching and trash talking about each other these days.
They chose him for a reason, which is 'cause they think he'll be a good addition to the album. And fans should repect that, and not just throw a hissy fit complaining its Pete Wentz or whatever. Grow up.

Posted by Ghosty | July 10, 2009 9:37 PM | Reply to this

Well that's great that they're friends and i'm sure i'd like to work with my friends, but it won't do they any favours, musically. Not in terms of respect, at least.

Posted by Mark! | July 10, 2009 10:46 PM | Reply to this

Good on Keith for defending the bands decision but I just don't see the need to justify featuring Pete on the album. Wentz is good at what he does, people forget that.

To be fair, they can do whatever the fuck they like. It's their album, why should they have to defend the fact that they chose to have Pete Wentz on it? Jus' sayin'.

Posted by Katy | July 11, 2009 3:38 PM | Reply to this

hes there friend. if some one talks shit about your friend you defend them. everyone knows that annd if they hadnt defended him they wouldt be real friends would they?

Posted by catherine | July 12, 2009 10:45 PM | Reply to this

I think that it's a good move for them. You can't be constrained to one "sound" and i think they made a smart move. I also think that the choice to defend Pete Wentz was called for, I mean, you'd defend your decisions wouldn't you
