Les Paul 1915-2009

Les Paul, guitar player and inventor, died today due to complications of severe pneumonia at White Plains Hospital in White Plains, New York. Paul was surrounded by family and friends. He was 94 years old.

Paul is best known as an early innovator in the development of the solid body guitar. His groundbreaking design would become the template for Gibson’s best-selling electric, the Les Paul model, introduced in 1952.

"Les Paul was a shining example of how full one's life can be, he was so vibrant & full of positive energy," said Slash. "I'm honoured and humbled to have known & played with him over the years, he was an exceptionally brilliant man."

Its real sad that the inspiration behind my les paul guitar is gone.

I just hope people remember him as the passionate and innovative player that he was as well as the inventor of the Gibson guitar.

Damn, another musical legend bites the dust :/

I may not be be a guitar player myself, but I'm sure he inspired many - now legendary in their own right - guitarists.

R.I.P Les Paul.
