My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way says their forthcoming album will sound much more "pure" then it's predecessor, The Black Parade.
The band are currently recording the follow-up to their 2006 mega-selling album with producer Brendan O'Brien (Mastodon, AC/DC, Pearl Jam) and Way says the band have ditched "bells and whistles" in favour of "melody and songwriting".
"At this point, the best way to describe the new album is My Chemical Romance being the purest, most distilled version of itself," reports ContactMusic.com. "No bells and whistles, as the focus has been on melody and song writing.
"If it doesn't work in a room with just the five of us, we aren't trying to make it work in the studio with effects and string sections," he added.
The album, which is due to be released later this year, is as-yet-untitled.
"There's no title yet," said Way. "It's crazy - this is the first time we're waiting to get really far into the project before choosing a title. I'm actually kind of excited about that. It's kind of 'anything goes' at this point, but I'm so happy with the songs."
