Green Day triumph at the VMAs

The MTV Video music Awards took place at New York's Radio City Music Hall last night (September 13) and Green Day were officially rock's big winners, collecting a grand total of three Moon Man trophies.

The band's video picked up the gongs for Best Cinematography, Best Direction and beat off tough competition from Paramore's Decode and Fall Out Boy's I Don't Care to win Best Rock Video too.

Beastie Boys beat David Lee Roth's California Girls and Foo Fighters' Everlong to pick up the retrospective Best Video (That Should Have Won A Moonman) award for Sabotage.

The VMAs hosted by Russell Brand will air tonight at 8PM (GMT) on MTV.

As much as i love Green Day, their new videos are nothing to shout about.

I don't understand why Greenday are still hailed as an amazing punk band. Their music is about as punk as my foot. It's generic "pop-punk", the same as Sum 41.

At least Sum 41 were fun where as Greenday are just...boring. I mean, yeah, they were good, but they changed to get popular (as Kerrang admitted that they all of a sudden changed and then sold...).

But yeah... I like some of their songs...but they aren't *that* great anymore

this is why people like to rip the hell out of Green Day; fans who only list the hits from AI and 21STCB. seriously, where did the fans go who liked them when they were embracing their punk roots; Insomniac anyone? I mean, Dookie was fantastic (Sassasfrass Roots FTW), and I feel the same way about every single one of their albums, but people rip them because there are some fans who just wave the hits in people's faces instead of telling them about other songs from Green Day that deserve praise as well; Sassafrass Roots, Christie Road, F.O.D/All By Myself, Brat, Stuart and the Ave., The Ballad of Wilhelm Fink, 86, Misery, Fashion Victim, The Grouch, Worry Rock, Murder City/Viva La Gloria?, Whatsername, The Static Age, Letterbomb...

right, imma stop with the rant right now and come here to say what i meant to say; congratulations to green day, you deserved the awards, amazing performance of East Jesus Nowhere, can't wait to see you on the 20th October <3

Greenday deserved them awards, after all the hard work, their own time, and effort to put into the new album!! im really glad im goin to see them in october! its gonna be awesome!

I absouletly totally agree with Lariixo! Their albums before AI deserves credit too + some people who say they are Green Day fans don't even know about their much better stuff before AI; I certainly know people like that. And Green Day have been around for 20 years and still rocking hard. Rock on Green Day!!! See you on 23rd October!! <3

not true thier new ablum is great. and about no one liking it thats not true i gues it might be where you are from but i kno alot of poeple who like it. btw to the poeple mad at them for changing you should proubly relise that they are getting older and gues what when you get older you change!

Correction, They did kick ass until they released 21st Century Breakdown,

The guy that said green day changed to get popular; they were popular in 1994 when Basket Case cracked the top 5. Those that complain that they changed? Would you prefer all your favourite bands to sound the same on every new album? That would get old pretty quick. I didn't rate 'Warning!', but then they returned to kick ass with American Idiot.
