New 30 Seconds To Mars album to have 2,000 different covers!

30 Seconds To Mars will release their new studio album, This Is War, on November 23 in the UK with not one, not two, not 200, but 2,000 different covers!

In what is an innovative and exciting - but possibly quite mental - move the band are inviting fans to upload photos to be used for the covers via their official website.

The move follows the band holding summits earlier this year in the US, Australia, Italy, Germany, France, Japan, Mexico, Canada and the UK where fans were able to record backing vocals which will be used on the album.

Why do we need 2,000 covers? Yes, some sad superfan will collect them all (Pokemon..just came into my head XD) but there isn't really any point.

Some album art is beautiful, some is pointless, some is hilariously bad...but this will just be waste.

Remember kiddies, cults are known for being money grabbing and unhealthy =]

First; i like 30STM
Second; i dont like how they aaaallllways talk about global warming (buhu)
Third; Like making a machine printing 2000 different (with tests ect.) is good for "global warming", instead of just 1..

How many people are ACTUALLY going to buy this album?
The most part of people that read Kerrang are going to Download it, so 1 album cover, or 2000 album covers, dosen't matter at all

I think its a great idea and is really good for fan participation, i personally am buying the album the day it comes out. 30STM RULE

as much as I love and worship 30STM I have to say this is pointless because most people dont care that much about the artwork - IT'S WHAT'S INSIDE THAT COUNTS!!!!! the most pathetic moneymaking scheme ever! again, love u jared but WHY? x

Until we see the actual cover we really won't know if 30 Seconds to Mars' concept was a hit or miss now will we? For all anyone knows the FACE of MARS is a photo in a frame somewhere in the cover art itself... I would withhold the criticism on something until you at least see it. This is the first time I have ever heard of something like this being done.. bravo for different.

i think it's pretty cool. Especially that they allowed the fans to be a part of it. What every band should do. Great job!

Interesting idea.
But maybe instead of doing 2000 covers they put NO cover on their album at all and just let people put whatever they want as the cover art, or just put a blank cover on the liner notes and let people doodle the cover :p

I am an incredibly devoted and loyal 30 Seconds to Mars fan but holy fucking shit. 2000 album covers!? This is ridiculous. Someone needs to smack Jared in the head or roundhouse kick him. God dammit! Tomo and Shannon are supposed to keep that little fucker grounded!!!

I'm so with you ppl on this one! I don't see how some can't see the reason in this new idea. So many fans contributed to this album, so it's only fair that they get a say in the album art too. Heck, i'd love to have a 30STM cover with Jared Leto's eye on it! LOL
This is the sort of album that brings fans and musicians together and I'm buying it....maybe not the very day it comes out, but I'm still getting it!

I'm a really big fan of 30STM, but please, get real... 2000 covers?

Though I can garauntee at least one person on this dumbass planet will buy all 2000 artworks.

Itunes will have a bitch of a job to do with getting that many artworks for just one album ;D

Meh, it's a ridiculously stupid idea, mr.X has a very valid point;
The production of that many album covers will contribute a fuckload towards global warming, yet Jared bangs on forever about how we should save the planet... I think he should practise what he preaches tbh.
Don't get me wrong, love Mars... Stupid idea though.
