Is this the end for Aerosmith?

Classic rock legends Aerosmith have parted company with lead singer Steven Tyler.

"Steven [has] quit as far as I can tell," guitarist Joe Perry told US newspaper The Las Vegas Sun. "I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane and saw online that Steven said he was leaving. I don't know for how long."

Relations in the Aerosmith camp became strained when the band were forced to cancel an number of their summer US tour dates after Tyler, 61, accidentally stepped backwards off a catwalk and broke his shoulder at a concert in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 5.

"Frankly, the last few months I've been wanting not to rock the boat," added Perry. "We didn't want to call him out and get him any more pissed off. We didn't want him cancelling any more gigs - we really wanted to do these last four. So we just let things lie.

"He has no contact with me or the other band members," Perry continued. "That's one thing I've learned to live with and I try to overlook it."

Perry went on to say that the band might consider hiring a replacement for Tyler: "You can't disregard 40 years of four guys who play together as well as they do. It's not about replacing Steve - it's four guys who play extremely well together, and I'm not going to see that go to waste. I don't know what path it's going to take at this point, but we'll probably find someone to sing where we need a singer, and then we'll be able to move the vibe up a notch."

No Steven Tyler = No Aerosmith :( He's definitely unreplaceable!

Very sad indeed. They've had a good run with 40 years but just sad that I'll never see them live. Tyler is unreplaceable, I'd rather they split up completely if they didn't have Tyler.
This article clearly isn't getting the attention it needs because of all the scene wankers who love Oli Sykes and Pete Wentz on here. *sigh*.

Get MYLES KENNEDY from Alter Bridge.
Just like Led Zep had planned on doing.
Hes the man!

But really, Steven Tyler is irreplacable, c'mon.

Shit. Won't be Aerosmith without him.

No Steven Tyler, no Aerosmith. Period. Don't bother getting a replacement. It'll just make things worse. Retire the name Aerosmith on a high note. Not on a crappy album/concert/whatever else.

I love Aerosmith. It's not possible!
You CANNOT replace Steven Tyler, it's impossible. I'm soo upset. :(

im curious how is it that even the other band members don't know if he's quit or not? that's a little weird.. seriously if your going to leave a famous band you've been in for 40 years it would be polite to at least tell them you were leaving!

It is understandable that the rest of the Aerosmith band is frustrated with everything. But come on-SERIOUSLY-STEVEN IS AEROSMITH. HE CANNOT BE REPLACED-IT IS NOT EVEN SOMETHING TO CONSIDER!! HE IS THE VOICE!!

Another brilliant band loosing one of their most important members. Aerosmith are the one band who I always wanted to see, I guess I'll never get the chance. Steve is the voice of Aerosmith - he cant be replaced!
