Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo was injured in a bus crash at 7:18 AM EST yesterday (December 6) when the vehicle carrying him, his wife, his baby daughter and his PA veered off the road 40 miles west of Albany, New York state.
According to news reports, the driver lost control as the tour bus hit a patch of black ice and violently fishtailed over the highway before crashing and falling into a eight to 10 foot ditch. Rivers’ wife and baby daughter and their nanny emerged from the crash remarkably unscathed while Rivers’ assistant sustained two broken ribs and the singer himself broke three ribs, injured his leg and sustained some “mostly minor but very painful” internal injuries.
Rivers is currently recovering at a nearby hospital in Amsterdam, New York. Doctors say that "surgery is unlikely, but he remains under observation" nevertheless.
“Kudos to the driver for somehow keeping things as level as they could be - surely this story would have been far more tragic if not for his actions,” said the band in an official statement. “We are sorry to say that the rest of the [US] December Raditude Tour has been cancelled. For now its a waiting game for all of us. Thanks for your kind thoughts and good wishes, we need them!”
