It's official, System Of A Down aren't reforming

Despite bassist Shavo Odadjian's Twitter post earlier this month suggesting a possible reunion, System Of A Down are officially not reforming according to frontman Serj Tankian.

Messageboards and blogs went into overdrive after bassist Shavo Odadjian posted a message on his Twitter on January 12 asking, "Are [you] guys ready for System?"

System Of A Down went on hiatus in 2006 after co-headlining that summer's US Ozzfest with Ozzy Osbourne. Frontman Serj Tankian embarked on a successful solo career, releasing the album Elect The Dead, which reached Number Four on America's Billboard Top 200 chart upon its release in 2007. Guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan formed Scars On Broadway, whose eponymous debut album was released in July 2008.

Speaking to Kerrang! in 2006, Odadjian said System Of A Down would be away for a "minimum of three years" which would make 2010 the year for a possible reunion. However Tankian has told fans that that the band are on an "indefinite hiatus".

"We call it an indefinite hiatus and that's how we still look at it," the singer told Billboard. "Nothing's changed. We always have offers to play but we haven't decided to do anything yet."

Another 2nd rate nu-metal band that should stay in the past. Shame Korn didn't split up when Head left.

If you think System are generic nu metal you clearly never listened to them.
Its a shame they arent back yet, but I would love to see Serj at Sonisphere

i thought they might headline the main stage at download. That's a shame.....Scars on Broadway and Serj by himself are o.k but not as good as SOAD

He said "We always have offers to play but we haven't decided to do anything YET". YET? That says that they might still do something in the future, so my hopes aren't completely crushed!

I'd rather be deaf than listen to Aiden or any of the current trend of shite spewing out of America thanks very much!

Korn used to be awesome. When their first album came out, it was a breath of fresh air. For some odd reason Kerrang called them "industrial hip-hop" but that's before the "nu-metal" label was created by lazy journalists and they started calling everything nu-metal, much like the "emo" label now which is just hilarious seen as not one of the bands labelled emo actually are emo.

System's first album was good, it wasn't great. Some of the old line-ups they had for shows in LA were awesome tho! System, Snot and (hed) p.e. on the same bill was a tasty gig. But then as with most bands money and popularity got to them and they started producing sub-standard tracks which would be played on the radio or could be used in commercials.

As for telling me I must listen to crap music, you have absolutely no idea what I listen to. Am I 15? Am I 30? Am I 50? Do I listen to Slipknot? Do I listen to Strife? Refused, Dillinger Escape Plan, Meshuggah, U2, Deftones, Coldplay, Sepultura, Kelly Clarksons? You have no idea.

Everyone has an opinion and just cos you don't agree with it doesn't mean it's wrong. It's healthy to have opinions but they should be well formed and educated opinions.

As for the "ever sonce their first album they have been innovators and current bands even get their ideas from them!" Are you on crack?! They stole so many of their ideas from other bands in the first place!

Toxicity was smashing, but that's because I was 15.

People need to learn to let go of bands they liked during adolesence that have split up. Go out and find fresh, new exciting bands, support unsigned and local bands.

Just because it's not in Kerrang, doesn't mean it's not worth listening to.

EXACTLY!!! Someone that speaks sense!

Posted by Divided | January 27, 2010 1:34 PM | Reply to this

did you even listen to Nu-metal?
Nu-metal quite literally smashed n tore apart the music scene and took over with incredible force! It was those days that brought pop music to its knees. With such bands like Spineshank, American Headcharge and Korn and the days when Linkin Park were actually decent, Nu-metal would kick your emo ass straight into your own bull****.
