Rage Against The Machine and Aerosmith will join AC/DC as headliners of the Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival, which is set to take place at Donington Park in Leicestershire between June 11 and 13.
Rage, who enjoyed beating X Factor finalist Joe McElderry to the Christmas Number One spot in December, announced last week that they would honour their promise to play a free show for fans who supported the Rage Factor campaign. The gig is taking place at London’s Finsbury Park on June 6 and is just days before their headline slot at Download.
“Due to the insane demand for tickets for the free Rage show in Finsbury Park, we have decided to jump on this year’s Download Festival as well and spread The Rage Factor around the country a bit,” explains guitarist Tom Morello. “Here we come, motherfuckers!”
In recent weeks, there has been much speculation as to whether legendary Boston rockers Aerosmith are actually still together. However, frontman Steven Tyler hopes that this festival announcement will put pay to internet rumours of any alleged band infighting.
“In the early days of Aerosmith we were infected with the vibe coming out of the UK with The Yardbirds, Blues Breakers, Pretty Things and the Stones and we wanted what they had bad,” says Steven Tyler. “So baby, we’re coming home! Rock ‘n’ Roll can be pure sex and we can’t wait ‘til Download!”
Stay tuned to Kerrang! Dot Com for another exclusive announcement at 12:30 this evening…
