Mark Hoppus and John Mayer join Fall Out Boy

Following yesterdays announcement that Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz perhaps, maybe, possibly, doesn’t know if he’ll ever rejoin the cult Chicago emo stars, Blink 182 bassist/vocalist Mark Hoppus announced via his Twitter that he’ll be replacing Wentzy in the band.

Wentzy Tweeted back: “[Fall Out Boy] just got a whole lot more hit songs! I can’t believe I quit the band!”

However, Hoppus’ time in Fall Out Boy was remarkably short-lived when he announced immediately after joining the band that “For the record, as of right now, I am also quitting Fall Out Boy.”

Thankfully acclaimed US singer/songwriter John Mayer has decided to step up to the mark and announced via his Twitter that “I am replacing Mark Hoppus in Fall Out Boy.”

Mayer quickly followed up his Tweet with another unveiling Fall Out Boy’s new frontman: “As defacto leader and bass player of Fall Out Boy, I am thrilled to announce Queensryche's Geoff Tate is our new singer."

While Wentzy declined to comment on these fresh Fall Out Boy line-up changes, he did give fans an insight into what musical direction he’s taking next: “I want to make music that is exclusively played at sporting events,” he Tweeted.

Gentlemen, in case you haven’t checked your calendars, April the first is still two months away. And besides, our spoof 'Fall Out Boy are splitting up' story was way funnier...

Is this a piss take? Like Fall Out Boy just, well I don't like them and never hearing anything from them or their "I'm too cool to breathe" bassist would be pretty amazing right now. =/

I dont understand this at all, sounds like Hoppus was just taking the piss, so is John Mayer joking as well? And surely fall out boy cant do anything without Patrick Stump as the singer??

I'm actually nearly crying. I can't believe this actually might be true. Fall Out Boy was my favourite band, this can't happen! Btw, all you that dnt care, jus cos you dont care doesn't mean there isn't people that do!

Jesus can no one take a joke?! They're taking the piss cos retarded media outlets like you scour twitter all day looking for the next big news story and actually take it seriously!! It wasn't news at the start of the week and it still isn't news now. You just proved them right, you will believe anything you read then regurgitate it to your readers and call it 'news'

Report on some new up and coming bands or something that's actually interesting and really is happening!

I second this! Fall Out Boy were good, but they suck now and I call them 'sellouts', but Pete Wentz is prehaps the biggest sellout of the lot!

There are ALOT of bands better then Fall Out Boy, why post whatever is written about or by FOB on Twitter, if we CARED, we would actually be following these people on Twitter.

Why not post about some better bands such as The Used, not sellouts like Fall Out Boy! ;)
