Melissa Auf der Maur has revealed to Kerrang! that she was “surprised” to be excluded from Courtney Love’s plans in resurrecting Hole. The bassist joined in 1994 following original member Kristen Pfaff’s death of a drug overdose and appears on the band’s 1998 hit album Celebrity Skin. Melissa, however, remains diplomatic about the situation.
“I’m so proud of my time in Hole and protective of the legacy of what I think is one of the most important female bands in a male-dominated landscape,” she says. “At this point, its clear that Courtney’s made her decision to do it this way, and ultimately she’s the master of her destiny and here I am releasing my own record and that’s the way its going to be.”
Melissa Auf der Maur will release her new album Out Of Our Minds through Phi/Roadrunner on May 3. A free download of the album’s title track is available from www.xmadmx.com.
