Amy Lee "doesn't have an opinion" on We Are The Fallen

Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee has told US magazine Billboard that she "doesn't have an opinion" on We Are The Fallen, the new band featuring former Evanescence guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt, drummer Rocky Gray, ex-Disturbed bassist Marty O'Brien and former American Idol contestant Carly Smithson.

"It just doesn't have anything to do with me or Evanescence," said Lee. "The only thing that bothers me about it, really, is I keep hearing about 'the original members.' The only original members of Evanescence [were] me and Ben; John and Rocky came into the band after we'd already recorded [Evanescence's 2003 debut album] Fallen, so there's a lot of years that didn't include anybody but Ben and I. Other than that, I don't have an opinion or anything to say about [them]."

When asked about her band's upcoming, third studio album ,Lee says it's set to be the best Evanescence album yet.

"I know that seems weird to say, but I wouldn't be here in the studio making another record if I didn't think it was going to be better than anything I've ever done," she said. "I feel like so much has already happened. I don't even know where to begin to try to describe it 'cause it's just so many things at once. I'm really excited!

When asked about the musical direction of album, Lee said it will sound like Evanescence, but will also incorporate some more leftfield influnces.

"It wouldn't be an Evanescence album if it didn't sound somewhat like Evanescence," she added. "I feel like our band has always had programming and inspirations from Bjork and Depeche Mode and Massive Attack and that kind of thing. It's not like we're making one of those records; it's just, like, that is playing a bigger role in the sound of Evanescence this time. Those little nuances and hints come in in ways that are cool. The sound that we're going for as a group is to fuse synthetic instruments with organic instruments and create something that sounds like a whole new place. It just sounds larger than life."

Evanescence's as-yet-untitled third album will be released in the summer through Virgin.

amy lee is such a douche bag...any band that only has one of the funding members in is a glorified solo project that ends up insulting the good name of the band before splits.

amy lee is a great vocalist but she is also a fucking piece of crap that only deserves the be a hooker somewhere in germany

I can't wait for the new album i've been a fan of Evanescence since 2003 and i still love them as much now and Amy Lee is my idol, I do also like 'We are the fallen'. :p

Evanescence! The best band ever are on their way back. Have they switched from Wind up to Virgin now? I'm confused... But yes, Amy Lee is an amazing singer and songwriter and people who seem to think she's a "douchbag" etc. should get a grip on themselves. These people only think that because she fired John LeCompt because unfortunately he was a tit. Anyway, yeah. The new album will no doubt be amazing, and We Are the Fallen are lame.

Well done Kerrang, you've bought up old news to try and create some drama now that these bands are back in the spotlight.

Yawn.

Any chance of some cutting edge jounalism some time this decade?

Any chance of some cutting edge journalism any time soon? Y'know something that consists of more than 'PERSON HAS NO OPINION ON OTHER MINOR ISSUE'.

Way to wind-up the fankids.

We are the Fallen = cheap
Evanescence = good

So, let me get this straight. She says ONE SENTENCE in an interview...wait no, FOUR WORDS in an interview, and they get put on kerrang news as a fuckin full page article?

Wow.

OK...so what are these guys supposed to do...INVENT what this woman has said to please everyone? Or quote what she said and get lambasted for it not being 'cutting edge'. It's an interview. It's a QUOTE.
I'd love to know how many of you people actually have a grasp on 'cutting edge journalism' because unless you are a war correspondent or an investigative journalist of some description, you'd have a tough task to fit all your, no doubt stringent, criteria for that label to be relevant.
Seriously, this is an alternative music magazine. I can't stand Amy Lee personally, but she is in a (VERY successful might I add) rock band. She said something in response to a question. If you guys don't like that response then create your own magazines, do your own interviews, ask your OWN questions and stop bitching on here.

I am sick of logging on to this website to see NOTHING but moaning about Kerrang's content. Go somewhere else because your arguments are tired.

Hurrah for Kerrang. You provide many people with a great deal of entertainment.

Nope, these guys aren't meant to invent what people are saying.

But four words doesn't make a news story. Especially not four words that were said about oooo, 6 months ago and reported on by many other alternative music websites at the time.

As I said, this is just bringing it back to create drama now these bands are back in the spotlight. I wouldn't complain if this had been reported on at the same time as when the comment took place. Or maybe, if the article had a little more content that I could probably find on wikipedia.

I've followed Kerrang for the best part of a decade now and when I started reading it actually had something new to report on, rather than rehashing things that appeared months before. A story like this might get a 50 word side panel at best rather than being considered a real news story.

Kerrang used to have something worthwhile to say about music, the bands, some interesting points of view and stories you weren't finding elsewhere months beforehand. That's the cutting edge journalism they ought to bring back.

She obviously can't please everyone and it's okay... Everybody has their share of haters and I really think she couldn't care less given the proportion of support she gets from other people.

My big sis and I have been listening to Ev ever since they came out in 2002 :D We're so happy they're releasing a new album.
I do wonder if they'll sound too different now that so many of the band have left.
Hm, but I'm sure they'll just blow me away again ;] Love their lyrics and sound <3<3
And Amy Lee is no dhooker..! I agree with Patrick.

Shame that Amy lee sees herself as a one woman show. She disgraces the name evanescence and shud just piss off, do a solo project and take the bands songs with her! Up her own arse she is grr

I love Amy Lee xxx

Since when did anything to do with the entertainment industry have to be cutting edge journalism?

Did anyone who is complaining about the article being based on a four word response actually read it? There's a whole paragraph of her words about Moody's new band, not to mention a few quotes regarding the new Evanescence album.

And to be honest, the diehard fanboys and girls of either band probably want to know all the gory details on how the bands hate each other, so this article is actually a good thing, trying to show that really these bands just exist, they have nothing to do with each other.

As for all the Amy Lee bashing, I read an interview that said she tried writing solo stuff, but the sound always came back to Evanescence. Sure she can play piano and sing, but the Evanescence sound needs a band.

I myself am looking forward to the new album. I'm not such a big fan of We Are The Fallen, because I'm really not a fan of Carly's voice at all, but I guess I'll give them a listen anyway.

For anyone saying Amy's a bitch because she kicked out all the "original members":
Amy Lee and Ben Moody are the original members. Rocky and John were hired AFTER Amy, Ben, and David Hodges wrote "Fallen".

Ben quit, Amy didn't fire him. Hodges also quit, although he isn't an "original member" either.

Amy doesn't see herself as a one-woman show, or else she WOULD'VE gone solo. But she found Will Hunt (Science) and enjoyed writing with him.

Also, whoever wrote the article: Nice job on being inaccurate. The album is set for release in fall, not summer. The TOUR is set to begin in the summertime. Also, I'm pretty sure they're gonna continue going through Wind-up, not Virgin.

I honestly think this will be a great album. I love how Evanescence reinvents itself. Regardless of what anyone might say, two of the original members jumped ship and the other was saying he was only in it for the money anyway and stopped caring. If Amy wants to keep what she's worked so hard at alive, I say all power to her. She's become successful at everything she's done, so as for Amy being a "bitch" or "douche bag", fuck that! Call the other members names like that if you feel a need to do so. They're the ones who don't care about Evanescence!

I completely agree with @catinajar. If you diss on Kerrnag all the time and say it's gotten shit, STOP READING IT THEN. Simple. Kerrang has it's devoted fans, it doesn't need haters. There's no point arguing against K! as they will never change. One of the amazing things about them is how they can provide us with info about countless bands of different genres. Just because they have something in which you personally don't like doesn't mean other people won't like it. Get a grip people.
