Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz has addressed rumours that he deliberately missed the debut live show by his former bandmate, Patrick Stump.
Wentzy was apparently “out of town” when Stump played a showcase gig at the Dirty Dog Bar in Austin, Texas as part of the South By Southwest music festival this past Friday (March 19). However, even if he was in town, Wentzy says he wouldn’t have gone.
"[It] sucks that I feel like I even have to address this, but I have had so many people hitting me up about that I will,” wrote Wentzy on his Blog. “[To the] people saying I left Austin before Patrick’s show or was there and just didn’t go, first off: I was in a completely different part of Texas [the night before] DJing [at] a spring break party (spring break wooo!) and then I flew to Dallas to meet my family and fly home.
“Even if I had been in Austin I would not have gone to [Patrick’s] showcase,” he continued. “Why? Not because I wouldn’t want to see all the bands (The Young Veins and Patrick included), but because I think the media would have scrutinised me being there - like I was still trying to steal Patrick’s spotlight, like I was trying to make it about me.
“While all the shit going on with Fall Out Boy is hard for me, I completely support the other guy’s musical endeavours,” he added. “We were friends before the band and we will be after. I think it’s ridiculous that the media keep trying to pit us against each other. I got the chance to watch the show on cruddy [a] YouTube quality video and it still looked and sounded great to me. I’m okay being made out to be the villain. Maybe I am even the villain, but don’t make it seem like I hate one of my best friends."
