Legendary Swedish hardcore quartet Refused have hinted at a possible reunion.
Earlier today, a message, which simply read "Coming soon...", was posted on www.officialrefused.com, alongside a live image taken from their New Noise video and an Epitaph logo.
Refused formed 19 years ago in Umea, Sweden. They broke up shortly after the release of their classic 1998 album, The Shape Of Punk To Come.
Shortly after their final show in a Virginian basement on October 6, 1998, the band penned a vitriolic open letter entitled 'Refused Are Fucking Dead', stating: "We will never play together again and we will never try to glorify or celebrate what was."
Most recently, frontman Dennis Lyxzen and David Sandström formed hardcore band AC4. More news on Refused as it happens.
In the meantime, here's the band's classic video for New Noise, taken from The Shape Of Punk To Come.
would be absolutely amazing if they did. being only 5 at the time i didnt really have chance to appreciate. would be nice to see them live just once

Amazing amazing band. I feel they split up as thier sound was becoming more defined. Shape Of Punk To Come And Songs to Fan The Flames of Discontent are classic rock albums. To Anyone who hasn't heard of this band - you've gotta check those albums out!

its not gunna happen.
"we will never play together again and we will never try to glorify or celebrate what was. All that we have to say has been said here or in our music/manifestos/lyrics and if that is not enough you are not likely to get it anyway. WE THEREFORE DEMAND THAT EVERY NEWSPAPER BURN ALL THEIR PHOTOS OF REFUSED so that we will no longer be tortured with memories of a time gone by and the mythmaking that single-minded and incompetent journalism offers us. Instead we need to look forward. We got everything to win and nothing but our boredom to lose."

If they reformed they would be the biggest sell outs ever.

Everyone who's not pumped about this clearly never saw them live, they released their bst material and broke up before the album BLEW UP. Their label did a poor job of booking and promoting them, and they gave up because their shows were under attended and uninspiring.
Now that everyone knows how incredible that album was, they deserve to go on a tour that doesn't suck balls. Those dudes still live in shitty appts, or live at home with parents, Epitaph has made lots of money off them, they deserve some too, no need to martyr themselves only to let Epitaph get all the money.

i was thinking about this happening in a daydream the other week...
how brilliant it would be
why is this news story below the MCR one?
maybe you should put refused on the cover, teach some of these 'noobs' a lesson in passionate, mint music

Saw them live five times before they split up. Each show was amazing!

The letter is a really interesting read. Some pretty harsh thing are said, but just goes to show how passionate they were about their morales. I mean, they saw that they were becoming what they hoped to destroy and prevented a potential "snowball" effect. However, this letter was written over 10 years ago. People change, opinions change; that's just part of being human. I wouldn't feel they were hypocritical for reuniting, and I would love to get a chance to see them live! Long live Refused!
This got me thinking that I really wish more bands would know when to quit and go out on top and in a blaze of glory. Leave em wanting more! Against Me! are a textbook example of a band that has overstayed it's welcome. If they had the good sense to bail after their third album, they too would enjoy the mythological legend that Refused has.
But yeah, i would LOVE to see Refused, fucking awesome band with a flawless back catalogue. Bring it on!
