Skunk Anansie are currently in the studio working on the as-yet-untitled follow-up to 1999’s Post Orgasmic Chill.
The quartet – Skin (vocals), Cass (bass), Ace (guitar) and Mark Richardson (drums) – shot to fame in 1995 with controversial single Little Baby Swastikkka, released three multi-platinum albums before splitting up in 2001.
The band initially got back together in 2008 to write and record new material for their Greatest Hits album, Smashes And Trashes. However, due to the great reception the compilation received upon its release last November, and the success of their reformation tour, which kicked off last April, Skunk Anansie have decided to release a new album proper and reportedly have 25 new songs already written.
"After our Smashes And Trashes Greatest Hits tour comes to an end in September, the record will be out and we'll be straight back on the road to do a huge European tour in support of it,” says drummer Mark Richardson. "10 years away is a massive amount of time in a business which has accelerated rate of disposability, and we have a lot of catching up to do.
While Richardson hasn’t commented specifically on what direction the album will take, he did say:
"This is a really different record for us and I'm already extremely proud of what we've achieved just in terms of the songs. It's really shaping up to be something special, but then I would say that! I hope [people] love listening to it as much as [we’ve] loved recording it.”
