New Green Day musical will "move you to tears"

Green Day's American Idiot: The Musical is set to open at the St. James Theater in New York tonight (Tuesday, April 20). And, according to frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, it'll move you to tears.

"It's going to move people," the singer told reporters. "I think it's the same reason why you would want to go see a band play live, you know?

"Having a chorus of people sing a Green Day song isn't unlike what you'd experience at one of our concerts," he added. "At the same time, this is a theatre piece that takes you on a complete journey with these characters. That's why I love watching it over and over again."

I saw this last year, the week it opened in Berkley. Its a great piece of Theatre and really cool what they've done with the material. Especially, of course, if you're a fan. Be nice to see it come to the UK.

I am stuck in NYC by the ash cloud and went to one of the previews last week. I'm not a huge fan of the American Idiot album but I actually really enjoyed the musical. Some songs worked in that style (21 Guns for example, which is in there along with about 2 or 3 other songs from the new album) but others, like American Idiot itself sound a bit daft. On the whole though, a really fun way to spend an evening.

New Green Day musical will "move you to tears". Because it's so pretentious and boring? Get back to writing decent pop punk songs instead of the radio friendly crap you've churned out for the last 10 years!! As for a musical?! Are you serious?! It's amazing what a bit of fame and money can do for the ego isn't it!

Green Day rocks, not bores. Everyone has their opinion so I don't wanna argue with you. I'm just making my point. If you don't like Green Day then don't bother reading this or leaving such a pointless comment. I like Green Day for whatever genre the music is. I don't usually label music but some of their songs are punk pop-ish (most are alternative rock).

Peace.

I really hope American Idiot comes to Britain soon and not just London, that's too far away for a lot of people. Please keep us posted Kerrang!

A NOTE FOR CERTAIN PEOPLE WHO HAVE POSTED ON THIS: No-ones forcing you to comment on this! It's generally the fans who are interested-if you don't like them, go do something else. I was a bit surprised when I found out about the musical (thinking Joseph, Wizard of Oz, ugh) but hey , you never know about these things...I kinda really wanna see it.
