Red Hot Chili Peppers to begin work on new album this summer

Red Hot Chili Peppers will begin recording their new studio in July.

The band's follow-up to 2006's Stadium Arcadium will be produced by Rick Rubin and will be the first to feature new guitarist, Josh Klinghoffer, who replaced John Frusciante in December.

"We have a lot of material, probably about 20 songs," drummer Chad Smith tells Music Radar. "Pre-production will take a few months, but I'd say by July we'll be laying down real tracks."

"We're all thrilled to have Josh be part of the group now," he adds. "He's been a friend of ours for a long time. He's played with us, he's played with John; he's a real natural fit. [He's] a real creative force - He's going to play guitar, he's going to write music, he's going to sing and play keyboards."

WHOOOO. cannot wait :) been waiting for years for a another great RHCP album.
any thoughts on what they will sound like after the departure of john ? he never liked playing songs from albums like one hot minute so will they be making that sort of sound again and will they play them live ?

I knew this for so long, there's been so much hype. ;O
Anthony, Chad, Flea && Josh are gonna make a great combo, and it's gonna be an AMAZINGG Album. ^^
As their number one fan, I'm so glad Rick Rubin is producing it again, he produced some of their older work. (;

it will not be the same with out john frusciante in the band :(

all though josh klinghoffer is a good guitarist :D

john allso broght alot of handsomeness to the band ;D

Greatest band ever. John was a brilliant guitarist but Josh should bring a refreshing kinda sound to the mix. Stadium Arcadium was great but a tiny bit repetitive to be honest. I doubt they'll go back to the One Hot Minute sound cuz that was due to Dave Navarro and Klinghoffer isn't much like him as a guitarist. The whole band has moved on from that era I would think. Maybe it wasn't due to Frusciante not wanting to play songs from that album cuz he wasn't around maybe it's just cuz the band realised long ago that that album mostly kinda sucks. At that point the band (or at least Kiedis and Navarro) were just completely screwed up with drugs. My Friends, Shallow Be Thy Game, Aeroplane and Coffee Shop still all rock though. I have high hopes for their next album lets hope they're lived up to. I don't see any reason to think they'll produce anything less than brilliant though.

Fingers crossed that they don't jump on the bandwagon of keyboard full solo less songs. I also hope that the songs aren't all centred around Flea now that Frusciante's gone. Hopefully its fresh without being too pop sounding, I want tunes like Scar Tissue and that but the Suck My Kiss and Give It Away stuff is the BALLS!!!!!
