Slipknot pay tribute to Paul Gray

The members of Slipknot held a press conference last night in their home town of Des Moines, Iowa to pay tribute to bassist Paul Gray who passed away on Monday (May 24).

"Paul Gray was the essence of the band Slipknot," said percussionist Shawn 'The Clown' Crahan. "Paul was there from the very very beginning and none of us would be on the path we're on right now in life or have the sorts of lives we have without him."

"My life changed the moment I met Paul," said DJ Sid Wilson fighting back the tears. "I am going to miss him greatly."

"I'd just like to say that I miss my brother so much it's very hard for me right now," added drummer Joey Jordison. "God bless you, I love you."

Gray's pregnant wife, Brenna, was also at the press conference.

"He was an amazing person and I just want people to remember him for just that," she said. "His daughter will remember him for the way he was."

It's unfortunate that more people can't see the human side of these bands. They are like everyone else and when things like this happen, it hurts. It saddens me when groups of people judge them by there music and not by there character. I guess the reason I'm saying this is because of the church group who stated they were going to picket Ronny James Dio's funeral. I wouldn't be surprised if they were to say the same for Paul. But if they were to sit face to face with any of the band members and talked to them, they would see they are human, just like them.

I am not a slipknot fan but I was almost in tears watching that.

It's evident that he was an incredible musician and a person and that he will sorely missed by so many. He affected thousands and his daughter will be able to look back on his legacy and see that.

I stayed up to watch is live it was so sad to see them get so emotional ): It's such a shame that another legend had to die and so young too. RIP Paul Gray.

This band was what fisrt got me started listening to this type of music and paul has always be one of my fav guy's.

This is, without a doubt, one of the hardest things I have read. To loose someone so suddenly at such a young age is always tragic, but to know Paul Gray will never live to see his unborn daughter grow up is saddest of all. I know that she will grow up and learn what an amazing person her father was and be proud of how many lives he touched.

I remember there being a quote from the band that said if one member left or passed away then Slipknot would be over. Whatever plans the band has next I wish them the best of luck and I know that there can be no more fitting tribute to the memory of Paul than the words they spoke at their press conference. They truely were brothers in arms.

That genuinely moved me to tears, just watching that and able to hear and see quite clearly the pain his wife and the band are feeling, it's just absolutely tragic.

I remember being little and being quite scared of the posters of this band that were all over my sisters walls - to see them holding back tears and comforting one another like that really reminds you how human they really are. Any preconceived notions people may have of the band are shattered by this - and I think that's really poignant considering the action Westboro Baptist Church felt the need to take against the memory of Ronnie James Dio just days ago.

I only hope that his daughter knows how special, talented and loved her father was all around the world. And I hope the band and Brenna are able to come to terms with this - regardless of what they decide to do musically I wish them all the best.

This is so upsetting..seeing the slipknot members so sad made me cry. slipknot were the first band that got me into metal. i still can't believe he's dead, its so shocking.

Paul, you were one of my biggest inspirations and persons of all time. I started bassplaying because of you, and the thousands of tears I've cried so far, the hundreds of words I've written and the millions of thoughts I've thought can't even describe how much you and your brothers meant to me.
You has been, and always will be, what my whole life is made on. You and your eight brothers were always there for me and guided me through the toughest time of my life ever. I love you deeply and truly, you just mean so much to me.

I will miss you truly, though I never met you, I felt like you were my brother. I remember being only six years old, and looking at posters of you, and just talk to you like you were right beside me, share my thoughts and opinions.
This video really made me cry again, to look at my other family in such deep pain.
I used to relate to your songs and your pain, every song has thousands and thousands of different emotions and situations labeled on it from every single maggot of your hundredthousandstrong family. But this time we doesn't relate - we share. And as Slipknot has helped us all before, it's time for us to help them.

To all my fellow maggots and other family: "We'll find a way when all hope is gone". It's time to find that way now.
Stay (SIC) and undtil you can wear your own smile again - wear Pauls. In the end, that's what he really wants from us.

This is what sepparates the rock/metal community from the rest - feeling! Clearly Paul was a person as well as a musician and the feeling of loss and sadness is overwhealming from the rest of Slipknot, his brother and wife... To SLIPKNOT and pauls family, there are no words that can ever express what you must all feel, being a slipknot fan feels like belonging to some special tribe and we have never felt like there was an us and them unlike so many other bands and i am sure paul was a big part of that, i hope he finds the peace that he deserves, we will not forget him i wish you all hope faith and courage to get through this terrible time.we have all lost a great part of our tribe!

This is so sad... I cried at it :( It's weird to see them all so vulnerable and... human. I really hope they can recover from this tragedy and continue to make music... Slipknot have always been one of my favourite bands, and I hope they can get past this. R.I.P Paul, a huge loss to the world of music.

This is devastating to watch. I've only ever heard a handful of Slipknot songs, and while I'm not the biggest fan, I have a lot of respect for these guys and the work they do. I remember how I felt when I found out that The Rev had passed, because Avenged is my favorite band, so I sympathize with everyone who really loves this band.

I can't even imagine how all the other band members must be feeling, along with his wife. This is such a tragedy.

I know this sounds cliché but you really did change my life and I can't begin to say how sad I am at the moment.

I hope the guys will be ok. I cant help but think that if I'm feeling this upset than how are the guys feeling.I can't help but wonder how they and Brenna will ever move on.

This is such a tragic story...
It takes an incredibly strong band to give a press conference the very day after their brother passed.

please support my group on facebook.I was really sadden by the death of Paul Gray and Ronnie James Dio and rev from avenged sevenfold.I'm huge slipknot fan and fed up with our fallen rock and metal stars not getting the recognition they deserve.In the sun newspaper they had was a small print on page 3 about paul's death and dio i think they should have more or do they have be a pop star like micheal jackson ?

After hearing about the death of Paul Gray today, I feel as though a big part of me has died, mainly because Slipknot was the band that kept me going when I felt as if I couldn't go on any longer, and I feel as though my life will never be the same again without the legendary Paul Gray. God bless you, Paul, and thank you for helping to keep me stable and for helping give us the Slipknot music we all love today. I was shocked to discover that Paul Gray, one of the greatest Bassists on the planet, had died! Why are all the amazing musicians passing away? First The Rev, then Dio, now Paul Gray! the day i heard about paul gray was they day i thought a bit of me had broken away, and it kinda scared me as to how much i was and still are attatched to slipknoti cant belive he has passed away such great music was brought about by them, slipknot will never be the same and i just hope they can find it in them to carry on playing, this band is awsome and they've kept me going even if when i first saw them they scared the hell out of me!i feel for his wife and baby as she is going to have to grow up and have not mety such a wonderful man. he will always be in our memories and we will never forget you paul you are amazing and i only thank you and the rest of slipknot for practically saving my life :) i love you. x

When i herd paul gray was dead i couldnt believe it !!I Just wouldnt hit in that he was dead.I love slipknot and they are all heartbroken i hope they can pull themselves to keep playing as i know it will be hard for them,,Im very sorry with the loss of this amazing man for brenna and there baby ,,she'll grow up never meeting her dad :( Slipknot helped through bad times,good times and amazing rock moments in history ,,i remain a maggot for the rest of my life ,,And thank you slipknot for everything !!Your amazing ,, Paul gray you rock RIP in our hearts forever ! xx

I will miss Paul so much. I was close to tears watching this. He was so young, it's such a sad sad story :(

so very sad.......so many losses to rock lately, but at least we are left with the amazing legacy of their music. i did shed a tear watching this...... hopefully the band will carry on as i'm sure it is what paul would want.
my thoughts and prayers are with his wife and family............and his brothers.

Paul will always be remembered and will live on in our hearts. It would have been easy for a bassist especially in such a diverse and amazing band just to sit back and go along with it. Paul however was not like this he knew he was part of something special and I think that he brought alot of the magic to slipknot that every slipknot fan loves. We will forget you and what you did for music.
