Gutted about missing Green Day, they were amazing at Glasgow but the tickets cost quite a bit so I'm having to miss them this time round :'(

Looking forward to a review of Wembley and/or Manchester in next weeks issue. It'll be interesting to see how the band copes with the stadium, although from what I've seen of them live, Green Day will make themselves right at home. Frank Turner will be something i'm looking forward to reading about as the last time I saw him, it was in a club with about 100 people, he's heading into a whole different league tommorow!

Review on Ozzy? Haven't heard the new album yet, any good?

Seriously. Worst review ever.

If ever those claims of Kerrang being the new generation's Smash Hits rang true, it shows in the Download 2010 review. AC/DC and Aerosmith only 3Ks? I didn't hear one complaint about them from anybody on site. They were the best bands there, and showed everyone they've still got what it takes.

You could basically split the great and the merely OK into two. Most of the generic metal bands, e.g. Killswitch, Lamb of God, really failed to leave much of a mark in my opinion. The Cancer Bats really didn't deserve a whole 5Ks - they got a bit tiresome towards the end. And that's my opinion on bands I actually like.

Furthermore, what's with your scattered coverage of the Pepsi Max and Red Bull stages? Not one mention of Sybreed - who put in a set that put the American metal brigade to shame - and Lawnmower Deth, who provided perhaps the most entertaining set of the weekend - congas through the pit, a crowdsurf race, and the 'Sumo Rabbit' flinging carrots to the crowd - you can't make it up!

I can agree with small chunks of it - the Napalm Death and Deftones reviews are spot-on. However it really seems like a half-hearted, can't be arsed review of one of the biggest rock festivals on the calendar, especially when you can't be bothered to cover all the bands that are there; just the ones that appeal to the 'cool kids'.

And since when did Aerosmith's performance not suit how the festival is supposed to end? Just because they chucked a bit of blues in there - no questions asked over whether Pendulum really suit to be special guests to Iron Maiden though?

It was a more than fitting end to the festival, and its worth noting that it the performances by the likes of AC/DC and Aerosmith are going to long remembered beyond those of the current generation of rock acts whose names and songs I struggle to even name, never mind sing along to. I'm only 25 and I've enjoyed listening, singing, and rocking out to AC/DC and Aerosmith since I was a kid. If the younger generation can't be bothered to brush up on their rock history, its not the legends' fault when these sorts of 'fans' turn up just so they can say 'I've seen AC/DC', whilst looking like they'd have more fun at a funeral.

I really looked forward to the Download review but once again, you've really disappointed. A complete letdown.

i agree with peter, this is the worst review ever

what the fuck are you doing giving AC/DC and aerosmith 3K i was there everybody was amazed at AC/DC's preformance i was gobsmacked it was epic, and aerosmith where also fucking amazing one of the best bands i have ever seen live same with them crooked vultures there were awesome i havnt heard one bad thing said about that preformance everybody i was with said that they were awesome, maybe you should give good reviews to bands who deserve it not shit like All time low and lostprophets who seem to get 5K everytime there in the magazine which is almost every fucking week, i am very dissapointed in this weeks kerrang and will not buy kerrang again. im reading a magazine who knows what good music should sound like, metal hammer, up yours kerrang

WOOH BFMV
cool download review, spent my my chemistry lesson reading it today,
all my fave bands are in the issue this week- Five finger death punch, Him, Stone sour, Bullet, Slipknot and Metallica. but only this week i suppose cos it was download and some of these bands wont be in the mag for a while now :(
Cant wait for new ozzy album, Gus G is an amazing guitarist so i know it will be good

Posted by lovebfmv | June 16, 2010 7:45 PM | Reply to this

download review was absolute rubbish. not only were the number of K's given really weirdly dished out but the fact that who-ever wrote it genuinely lied about something someone had said is appauling. i had never listened to nonpoint & never even heard of them to be honest & was only at the front for august burns red & the review said he said people were "gay" if they didn't bounce, when he didn't at all, he said everyone had permission to make people jump if they weren't. i have no reason to actually stand up for them cause it's not my thing & i am not fan but to deliberatley make something up & make a band look bad for something they ahven't done is really unfair & i personally think you should apologise.

Posted by cat | June 16, 2010 8:37 PM | Reply to this

Your absolutely joking with your review of Download, AC/DC Being classed as boring Angus young, the most underated guitarist on the planet being slagged of for having fun and doing a strip tease?Angus young deserves more credit as one day the guy wont be around and will be surely missed along with the rest of the guys in AC/DC. Its a bit of fun guys chill out, I bet you cant even play a guitar never mind in front of 100,000 screaming and happy people enjoying a rock concert. Go review a Bross or Jedward Gig as you surely have lost credibility with this review.

Posted by Andy Silburn Sheffield | June 16, 2010 8:40 PM | Reply to this

also.. couldn't agree more about ACDC being under-rated & saying that the younger generation were not moving. personally next to me EVERYONE was moving & a boy of about 15 knew every single word. are you actually sure you went to download? cause it really doesn't sound like it at all.

Posted by cat | June 16, 2010 8:42 PM | Reply to this

I havent read this issue but by the sounds of it youve been ripping AC/DC. Im 14 (no im not a teeny bopper or what ever your calling us these days) and me and my friends LOVE AC/DC. For you to call them boring is a tad stupid don't you think?

Posted by Green Giant | June 16, 2010 9:28 PM | Reply to this

Just back from download bought the kerrang today to read the reviews, this is the first time I've bought it in 6 months because I've been disillusioned with it's content. Seems like nothing has changed ACDC
3 K's, Killswitch Engage 3 K's many more bands with poor reviews whoever did these reviews were they actually at Download I was there with my 2 sons for the whole weekend and it was absolutely brilliant.
Kerrang need to stop employing wannabes who know nothing about rock & metal and speak to the real fans & ask for their reviews which are honest instead of a guess.

Posted by simon | June 16, 2010 9:37 PM | Reply to this

totally agree with your comments, its about time kerrang got some good reports.
someone who knows rock & metal & isnt an arsehole.

Posted by simon | June 16, 2010 9:46 PM | Reply to this

Wasn't at Download but I read the review of it in Metalhammer, they gave AC/DC and Aerosmith fairly dodgy reviews too, but according to everyone who was there it was fantastic =/ Dunno what that is all about

Posted by Lee | June 17, 2010 12:59 AM | Reply to this

Wow some arrogant comments regarding of the reviews from K! I wasn't at Download but I know their point of views on the ones who got low Ks were fair. If I was there I would have said every bands were fantastic and give them 4-5 Ks right ahead. But its their review. You can't win if they feel different.

Posted by Charles | June 17, 2010 4:41 AM | Reply to this

it's hardly arrogant, it's just voicing your opinion & to be honest it's not about giving them more K's because alot of the higher stars i don't agree with, because some people were not very good & they've given them raving reviews! i am not saying every band was fantastic, cause they weren't but they have some serious errors going on. you can't say you agree when you didn't go either, thats unfair.

Posted by cat | June 17, 2010 7:24 AM | Reply to this

Im in it!!! yayyy!!
I Love Liam from cancer Bats they were amazing live!!!!!!!
good choice of posters too! Thanks!.. xx

Posted by Lorna Nicholls | June 17, 2010 12:15 PM | Reply to this

Did I say I agree with their reviews? I believe I said I think their views were fair. Meaning they feel different than us and its fair to published it. I know some reviews were bullocks too, I didnt agree to some, and yeah I didn't go but I believe most people said it was epic. In facebook, the Download page said it was the best three headliners ever and the best download ever but that doesn't change the fact that K! would agree too. For me Slipknot were the best headliner in Download so far for their performance last year. I know people would disagree but who cares?

Those were my opinion. But saying 'I'm not buying the magazine anymore' is a bit sad because K! were not doing a very good job.

Now...

Ciao,
Rant over/

Posted by Charles | June 17, 2010 12:24 PM | Reply to this

If you didn't go then how can you judge whether Kerrang's views were entirely fair? Certainly the Nonpoint comment seems off the mark judging by those who saw them. I'm no Nonpoint fan personally but it is a little hard to believe.

I still think Kerrang could have been more extensive and covered the entire festival. Lawnmower Deth only do one-off shows nowadays and don't make any new material, but even so, their set was an entertaining one, and you'd have to possess a heart of stone not to chuckle.

Sybreed also put in a good set, but I was disappointed to find they'd not even been featured. This was their first ever UK show and I certainly think they won a lot of new fans with their showing. Clearly not Kerrang though. If you're not even bothered to feature every band, why are you sponsoring the festival?

As for the Aerosmith comment, about how their blues portion of the set wasn't befitting to end the festival with - its not up to you to dictate exactly what's right and wrong with it. Fair enough, have an opinion, but don't say it doesn't belong at Donington.

Blues is a much a part of rock 'n' roll as anything else, especially considering it was the foundation for many of the greats, e.g. Black Sabbath, Blue Cheer, and indeed AC/DC and Aerosmith. And its much more befitting than whatever's 'in' these days.

I disagree with the Nonpoint review completely, however the lead singer did imply anyone not jumping as gay, however the review in the magazine is ridiculous, they really got the crowd going however you decide to give them a 1K because of a comment he made

Posted by Jacob Edwards | June 17, 2010 10:41 PM | Reply to this

Whoever wrote that horrid article on AC/DC should be fired. What a joke. 3 K?! Morons. More like 6 out of 5.

Posted by Steve | June 17, 2010 11:31 PM | Reply to this

kerrang should really at the end of writing reviews read what theyve written and the K's theyve awarded for example giving the blackout more K's than ACDC, Aerosmith and TCV is a disgrace, i saw them all and can honestly say the blackout are an average teeny band who get a crowd of a couple of thousand 12 year olds jumping (not hard too do) but the bands ive said got 100,000 people of all tastes watching, enjoying, clapping and singing quite a bit harder i think.

Furthermore they slag off bands like TCV and Aerosmith for having a long jam, being bluesy and extending songs yet coheed and cambria have made a whole career out of it and are awarded more Ks for the dullest, over extended set of the weekend.

its a piss poor review to which each band (of those who actually featured) get a couple of lines, where only one moment of the set is discussed in any length of detail and reviewer trying to be bigger than the band they are reviewing.

Well I didn't make it to Download this year, we were too busy recording songs and stuff. Bit of a shame cos the line-up was the best I've seen yet. Maybe you'll see us next year!!

Ok, whilst I understand that gig reviews have a certain subjectivity based on the experience of the reviewer and as I consequence differences in opinion are inevitable, I feel in this instance the difference between you reviewer's interpretation of Friday's Download Fest is so far removed from what the rest of the crowd witnessed, it's ridiculous! Three measly K!s for AC/DC?!! Are you joking?! To put them on a par with Unearth, 36CF and Killswitch's performances is mind boggling. For them to have the same rating there must have been parallels between all of them and in this respect, I ask:

Did any of those bands have the same stage presence as AC/DC?
Did any of those bands have the same stage show as AC/DC?
Did any of those bands have even a tenth of the energy of Angus?
Did any of those bands get the same crowd reaction as AC/DC?
Did any of those bands get the crowd eating out the palm of their hands as AC/DC?
And, more importantly, did any of those bands provide us with a relentless set littered with so many timeless classics (all right, I admit, the rest only had 30-40mins and the headliners got 2hrs and could fit in more tunes) as AC/DC?

K!, your answer is yes then I respect your decision, but if the answer is no (and I hope on reflection you feel that your original interpretation was a bit mean!), then please make amends on this mediocre review of such an amazing gig, which contrasts so greatly with the crowd's reaction.

Please rescind those 3K!s and give them the 5 they deserved!

Posted by Steevo | June 18, 2010 1:30 PM | Reply to this

AC/DC were bloody well the most amazing band of the weekend. And to say in the review that only th older generation were enjoying it is bollocks. I'm 18, only really got into AC/DC a few years ago. I sang every word and couldn't get enough of it. My little brother was with me as well. He's 15 and he even agrees they were the best band of the weekend and he doesn't even know half their songs.

Basically the reviewer is a wanker.

Download review was awful. AC/DC, Megadeth and Killswitch 3ks? All three easily deserved 5ks, and Billy Idol should of been 4ks not 3. Also Hellyeah should have got 4ks not fucking 2. I do agree with the ratings of Ratm, Cancer Bats, Rolo Tomassi and Slash, but most of it was bullshit. I found Deftones really fucking boring and you gave them 5ks. Steel Panther and Stone Sour also deserved 5ks and Aerosmith should have got 4. Everyone was saying how amazing AC/DC were for the whole weekend and i didn't hear one complaint about them. Taking Dawn are another band that should of got 4ks instead of 3. Also why the fuck did you miss out half the bands in the Red Bull and Pepsi Max stages and didnt do one review at the acoustic stage. Overall i am very dissapointed with such half arsed and shit reviews.

Haven't seen the review but Angus and the boys were incredible as always. I even got a bit emotional at one point because the excitment and energy levels of the crowd were huge. How much longer will we be able to see AC/DC live, we're running out of years and if those that attend the gigs cant get past their own preconceptions and enjoy it for what it is then i pity them !!

Green Day at Manchester were AMAZING - they were really good what with the covers of Lulus' 'Shout' and AC/DC, the Metallica riff got me going!

Your review of Download sucks
giving AC/DC three stars, or K's. They were amazing it was the first time of me seeing them and where I was I saw a great mixture of young people ricking out and enjoying it. They put on a great show full stop and deserve more than just 3.
Also another note Sonic Syndicate two? they are one of my favorite bands and they did an amazing job, ok it was early in the morning but I thought the crowd were pretty polite about them and they still gave it their all, that's a true musicanship there.

Was the people doing the review actually at Download???

Im not sure they could have been at the same event as I given their piss poor review.

AC/DC simply awesome, dont let these mugs tell you any different!

Posted by Jamie | June 22, 2010 11:50 AM | Reply to this

To be quite honest I think your review this year was shit.

Yea, maybe you didn't think AD/DC deserved 5ks (which they did) but leaving out bands at the Red Bull and Pepsi Max stages is just stupid.

After weeks of voting for No Mean City on the Red Bull Bedroom Jam site, they achieved a place at Download and picking up this weeks issue I was shocked but more disappointed to find they had not been mentioned at all. Your pathetic attempt to cover Download Festival this year has left me wondering what Kerrang! actually does in the music industry today, apart from the breaking news that Hayley Williams has gone blonde.

Really Kerrang? Its time to shape up a bit!

eriously. Worst review ever.

Kerrang review what a load of rubbish , it shows in the Download 2010 review. AC/DC only 3Ks? acdc were great infact they were better then great everyone loved them. there were know complaints about them from anybody on site. They were the best band there, and showed everyone they've still got what it takes.

Whoever wrote that horrid article on AC/DC should be fired. What a joke. 3 K?! Morons. More like 6 out of 5. better than any other band there, not saying they were not all great, well one or 2 were not. but seriously what the hell. get some one to write the reviews that know what they are talking about if fact were they even there. sort it out

Honestly those who are still crying about how ac/dc got a crap review should shut up. just because their heroes got a mediocre review you all have to piss and moan about it. Just because the blackout got a better review, you know if download was on next weekend the situation might change. Just because you all think you are cool liking ac/dc and all your favorite bands should be 5K , you disillusioned morons! GOOOOOOOOOO KERRANG!

My cuz went to Download and said i was AMAZING!!!!!

Posted by Tom | July 6, 2010 7:30 AM | Reply to this

As I said in my own review of Download, the Kerrang review was an absolute joke (not just because of AC/DC but that was perhaps the worst offence). It was so bad to an extent that you wonder if half the reviewers were actually at the festival. This is a prime example of why Kerrang has become a joke next to other publications next to Metal Hammer, Terrorizer and the rest.

Posted by Jamie | July 8, 2010 5:24 PM | Reply to this

I know this is a little late as Download was almost a month ago but I had overheard from a friend of mine that Kerrang had once again given mediocre reviews to some quite legendary performances, and just to look back at a few of the comments left on this page I can understand why. Im only 18 and have been at Dowload for the past 3 years and have had the honour to see some of the most legendary of bands, and to be able to see AC/DC, Rage and Aerosmith in the same weekend is something that will be forever remembered. However, what I do not appreciate is when magazines such as Kerrang put these performances down to benefit their majority readership. AC/DC an 'old act'? what a load of bollocks, Angus may be into his 60's but the guy plays guitar and runs around on stage as if he is half the age. The strip tease is something he will forever be remembered for as it is one of his trademark stage acts and your putting him down for it!? Honestly, did your reporter not hear the bellowing cheer from 125000 ecstatic fans when he pulled his shorts down, or was he too busy listening to Family Force 5 on his fucking Ipod!

This just goes to show just how mainstream Kerrang has become, and this opinion is not just from a pissed off adolescent with a taste for the old school, because Im into quite a few new breed bands of all genres too. This opinion is voiced from a majority who have turned on Kerrang over the past 5 years or so as they have watched the reviews and interviews turn into a one sided teen loving arse licking just to benefit a group of kids who have one just reached puberty.

So Kerrang, heres a wild idea, how about you let some young reporter whos hair is not flung over across his eyes, write a report on the Download Festival 2011, one that is truthful and honest, and not there as a means of ripping apart legends who have been in the business longer than Kerrang has been on the fucking shelves.

Right, rant over, Im going to now flick through the pages of Metal Hammer and Classic Rock who coincidentally wrote about the same festival but gave it a much better and much more respected review.
