Metallica were joined by members of Megadeth, Anthrax and Slayer for a cover of Diamond Head's 1980 classic, Am I Evil?, at tonight's Sonisphere show in Sofia, Bulgaria (June 22).
Joining Metallica's James Hetfield on vocal duties was Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine and Anthrax singer Joey Belladonna.
The last time Mustaine performed with Metallica was on April 9, 1983 at L'Amours in Brooklyn. Two days later, he was fired by the band. The following month, Metallica recruited Kirk Hammett and entered Music America Studios in Rochester, New York to record their debut album, Kill 'Em All, while Mustaine formed Megadeth in Los Angeles.
"After 29 years of doing this to reach this apex is just so fucking cool," tweeted Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian, just moments after this historic performance. "It was a monumental moment of epic proportions. I'm so high from the experience I can't sleep."
The show was broadcast in cinemas across the UK earlier this evening and will be released on DVD.
