Sum 41 frontman attacked in Japan

Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley was admitted to hospital on August 5 following an attack by three people in a Japanese bar.

Whibley, 30, was drinking with his bandmates, guitarist Tom Thacker, bassist Jason McCaslin and drummer Steve Jocz when the attack took place. Japanese authorities are looking into the matter.

The frontman was rushed to hospital and underwent an MRI scan, which revealed he sustained a slipped disc in his back, as well as cuts and bruising.

Defying doctors orders, Whibley rejoined the band on August 8, for their set at the Summersonic festival in Osaka.

Nothing has happened to the world, don't worry Coz. It just so happens that thousands, if not millions of people are beaten up, attacked, murdered and raped all over the world, every single day. Sadly, it's human nature.

It's just mere coincidence that two of them happen to be in bands we like. As much of a shame as it is, worse things happen to nicer people all the time - we just don't hear about it.

When it happens to people we know of, it highlights it to decent people who can then use whatever means they have available to them to help out. (I'm certainly NOT promoting vigilanteism, by the way!)

If this genuinely concerns you, then you should think about joining the police to help, or donating to a victims of violent crime charity.
