As Pantera get set to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their classic 1990 album, Cowboys From Hell, frontman Phil Anselmo has spoken to Kerrang! about his memories of recording it and what its lasting legacy has been.
"I hated being in the studio," Anselmo tells Kerrang! "Pantera was a fucking vicious live band and it was a challenge to get Dibebag's guitar sound and to get that sound onto a record. Either way, being perfect, precise and singing every fucking line over and over again, I hated that shit!
"All in all, though, it ended up being one of those things you had to get through," he adds. "It was unpleasant at the time, but later on you come to really, really love it. But it was a relief to finish."
