Stuart Cable died "after drinking heavily"

Stuart Cable died from choking on his own vomit after a three-day drinking session, an inquest into his death heard yesterday (Tuesday, October 19).

The former Stereophoincs drummer and Kerrang! Radio DJ was found dead at his home in Llwydcoed near Aberdare on June 7 by his girlfriend, Rachel Jones. He was 40 years old.

Pathologist David Stock told the inquest in Aberdare that Cable was five times over the legal limit for driving with 407 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitre of blood, and recorded the cause of his death as "choking on his own vomit caused by acute alcohol poisoning."

"Stuart was an extremely well-liked man," Detective Sergent Jones of the Glamorganshire Constabulary told the BBC. "In addition to being universally liked as a person, his musical talent and accompanying fame meant he had a large fan base and he was easily recognisable. It is no exaggeration to say Stuart Cable is one of the most famous people in Aberdare and local people are extremely proud of him."

"It's a very difficult time for the family who are still struggling to come to terms with our huge loss," a spokesperson for his family added. "We can't put into words how much Stuart meant to us."

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.
