Download 2011 is go!

System Of A Down have been confirmed as one of the headliners of the Kerrang!-sponsored Download festival, which is set to take place at Donington Park in Leicestershire between June 10 - 12, 2011.

Download will be one of the recently reunited band's first shows since they went on hiatus in 2006. During their time away frontman Serj Tankian embarked on a successful solo career, releasing two albums - 2007's Elect The Dead and this year's Imperfect Harmonies - while guitarist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan formed Scars On Broadway, whose eponymous debut album was released in July 2008.

"We are excited to announce that System will be playing some dates together in 2011," said the band in an official statement. "We also want to thank you for your loyalty and support, not only to System Of A Down, but to all of our solo efforts as well. We have no master plan of sorts - we are playing these shows simply because we want to play together again as a band and for you, our amazing fans. We look forward to seeing all of you!"

The festival's other two headliners will be revealed at a later date, stay tuned to www.kerrang.com for further Download 2011 announcements over the coming weeks.

A limited number of weekend with camping tickets for Download 2011 will go on sale at 9am on Friday, December 3 at www.downloadfestival.co.uk. This 'early bird' offer ends at 5pm on Monday December 20, and will include three day and five day camping options. The popular Download RIP packages will also go on sale on December 3, and will include yurtels, pod pads, tipis, kip & kits, yurtys, gypsy caravans, kabin kreek, camping caravans and even a luxury bus. Soundgarden are headlining Friday, System Of A Down are headlining Saturday, and Metallica are headlining Sunday.
They NEED to do a separate UK tour, although the other bands playing Download (Avenged Sevenfold, Tenacious D, ect.) do add to the appeal...now to save up for a £180/£190 ticket haha

How has this slipped down to be the fifth news story? This should be, and in actual fact is, big news. How is The Pretty Reckless upgrading a venue, or 30STM's new video being banned, more newsworthy than this? Surely, Kerrang, as one of Download Festival's biggest sponsors should be promoting this to the full extent that they can? You know, like a sponsor should do.

@Spide man. The Kerrang readers poll stayed near the top of the news for weeks, so I'm pretty sure you can go suck a dick. Also, nice way way to quote South Park genius.
